Be Careful What You Ask For...

Hey everyone. I'd like to get your thoughts and opinions about something. I can't think of a better way to describe this other than it has to do with attraction, law of attraction, etc.

In recent years I've noticed that I really do receive all that I ask for... unless I sabotage it in some manner. There are still some things I have to work on.

But what really intrigues me is that the manner in which I phrase my thoughts, or meditations, prayers... however you wish to think of it, "seems" to have a direct bearing on the result. I'm being a bit vague here only because I'm not quite prepared to discuss personal matters.

It all reminds me of a movie I saw a long time ago, late 80's or early 90's. I cannot recall the name, it was a B grade movie... ok, maybe C-, in which an evil type of genie was unleashed. And this genie was amused by granting wishes, but the funny part was that the exact, literal wish was always really bad for the wisher. I remember laughing at it because the person doing the wishing would always screw himself over because of it.

Anyway, that movie reminds me of things I've asked for and received, in time... not all things happen or happened quickly. But sometimes I would be thinking about something, or a particular situation or set of circumstances, and it would hit me like a ton of bricks. I actually got what I asked for.

It seems like how I asked for it was not quite refined enough. lol. I mean to say, there were important considerations that I was unaware of at the time I was 'sending it out there' into the ether, so to speak.

I hope all that made some kind of sense. So, has anyone ever noticed this 'thing' I'm trying to talk about?

What are your thoughts, please?

Thanks.

    This is very interesting, Ken

We all give out energy, it's at a rate of 50,000 cells per second.
That energy; happy, sad, anger or success, resonates with the
universe and it responds. You get back what you are giving out.
At a very simple level, if you don't tell someone what you want,
how can they possibly know and plan to give it to you.

This is why it's so very important we should be careful what we
think about. As I have mentioned in other posts here recently,
the thoughts we have produce feelings in the body and these
produce actions which in turn produce results. If the result are
not what we desire, we need to change what we are thinking
    about.

It's the thinking bit that's the most difficult. We all say we 'think'
but in fact what most of us are doing is playing the old 'records'
that are in our mind. This is not thinking. The kind of thinking I
mean is, 'creative thinking'. If we do not think creatively, we'll
achieve no more than we have already.

Focus on what you desire in a positive way, rather than on what
you don't want and the results will amaze you.

I may not have responded directly but I hope that through this
you will see the crucial importance that what we desire all starts
from within each of us - that's you and me!

For me at least, it seems that harnessing the mind is the most challenging
part. And I agree with the part about playing the old records. Interesting
thing about our minds is the old records become meshed with new experiences.
They seeem to become integrated, or the new experiences pass through
the filter that is comprised of the old records.

I've made great strides with being aware of my thoughts, or feelings
really, and then imposing some kind of 'thought management' to it.

You know, they should teach this stuff when we're kids. lol. Seriously,
I believe it would do a whole lotta good if more emphasis was placed on
      'how to operate your mind.'

      Thanks again for your reply.

It is an interesting theory is the law of attraction I see that Geoff has put foward the theory of energy. I thought I would put one of the other theories that is put forward regarding the Law of Attraction.

When we think about something, whether it is an old record or something we have deliberatly created or something that is fed into our minds from our enviroment, Itis accepted as real by our brain. If that thought is regularly thought abought our brain can not distinguish between what is real and what we have dreamed. We will then start making micro changes to of behaviour.

We then start to attract the same as our thoughts. That then brings about our thoughts becoming real.

The reason I have put forward a brief alternative is some people struggle to understand or accept the theory of energy and relate it to New Age belief. The great thing about the law of attraction is that nomatter what theory you want to substantiate it with it works.

Right! How many times I discovered that one. Getting what I asked for only to find out it's not really a cool thing, or what I want. But that's ok. At least I'm living and not just sitting around 'waiting' for whatever. lol.

One thing that fascinates me is the power of belief. I'm interested from several perspectives, but mainly just how damn powerful it is. I read a book some time ago, don't remember the title, but it discussed a process for how beliefs come into existence in us.

It talked about the idea of 'who' we give consent to as being an authority figure. I guess that all boils down to who we really trust. Then, it talked about influence and how much, or little, their information agrees with what's in our minds, already. There has to be some degree of similarity.

It was just a fascinating book, and subject. I'm always amazed by people and the things they do and believe in with all their hearts and minds.

Maybe it's a good thing that the human mind is not completely understood because that would be a very dangerous thing. There are still lots of people in influential positions who are not quite ready to responsibly use that kind of information.

There has been a lots of theory about how we do attain what we want or ask. Another theory that supports the reply of others to the thread, however express in another way.

We are all creators just like GOD, in the bible we are made from the image of GOD, taken from one of his ribs. Everything we do has an effect to the universe, and inter-connected to our environment that includes heaven and earth.
and we have a prophet like abilities that when we want to achieve something. We thinks about it and start doing actions to attained it. whatever results we get it's a :
        self fulfilling prophecy

How you phrase things is important.

However, it is more important how you feel about what you are asking for. Once you get a picture of what you want, really juice it up!

Want a new car? "Sit" in the car in your mind. Feel the responsiveness and acceleration as you zip down a curvy mountain road, enjoying the drive. Feel yourself smiling as you come around the bend and see the expansive horizon and a straightaway opens up and your favorite "fast driving" song comes on the HD surround-spound stereo system. Feel good as you look to the passanger side and see your partner of your dreams sitting next to you, happy and enjoying this epxeitince with you. Then, open up the sun roof and feel the sun shine in and a slight breeze blow into the car.

Keep doing this & you're well on your way...

Thoughts are things, and whatever you think about expands. Whatever you do comes back to you tenfold.

In my experience, this is a Universal Truth, and works for good or bad. BE deliberate about what you create.

Ken, I've always noticed the same thing. I get what I ask for. It's almost a cosmic joke! I finally did some studying on LOA. I'm not into "The Universe" made it happen. I'm more along the belief that we manifest these desires ourselves. I asked for more time to run my business, I suddenly lost my job. I wanted a pay raise, I got a promotion (into a terrible job). I wanted my work to count, I lost my job and ended up working for $13.00 an hour working on an Army base (I have an MBA and a PMP). What I learned is that I need to be crystal clear about what I want. Oh, I almost forgot the most recent cosmic joke. My hit count was going down quickly. I wanted to manifest some traffic. Too easy, right? You guessed it "DOS Attack!" LOL Be careful! It's a dangerous business, this "wanting!"

tbarnby. I feel you, man. Yes, some of the things you said reminded me of me! I wish I
could remember a very old Chinese proverb, I'm assuming it's a proverb. But it tells the
story of a man who had a son. His son lost a leg, or a foot. Of course both were very
unhappy with this. But then a terrible war started, and most of the other villagers lost
sons in this war. But this farmer's son could not fight because of the accident that cost
him a limb. And the son's life was spared and was able to be with his father, etc.

There's more to the story, but I cannot remember it.

I've also noticed the truly impressive coincidences in my life. Some have been of a
similar nature as what happened in that story. Just that things have happened that
initially kinda sucked, basically. lol. Then later on it turned out that these events had
a direct bearing on other things that were cool.

Really makes you wonder about everything. Makes we wonder.

What you said in your post is what I meant in my post about 'refining my requests.' But
it is impossible to foresee certain things. So I don't worry about it.

    Thanks for your comments.

Knowing what you want is only a pice of the puzzel....
    Rules to attraction:
    1) Think of what you want not what you don't want (universe don't understand "not")
    2) Create an image in your head that brings up all the feelings you can master (feelings = power to manifastation)
    3) Let it go...most important! (you have to act as if you dont need this! To intense fokus can turnaround to disapointment and you fokus on what you don't have = You get wat you fokus on...more of not having. (Just remind you once in a while, what it is you want in your life)

    Coincidence?

Actually, my friend and I were reminiscing on an old food (pizza) fight we had. I then began craving it and I was willing to go and order some. Half an hour later, my father came home with a box of pizza, not knowing of my hunger.

At first I thought this was going to be about getting too much of what you asked for.
Like when someone gets their product mentioned on the Oprah show and all of a sudden this person has 50,000 orders and servers crashing. Now they are overwhelmed and wondering if they can keep up with what they wished for. It happens....I hear..

I have no idea if there is a God or higher power or whatever, religion has ruined that for me, but the way I have always understood it was that we are a part of this higher power. And I know that it is often said to trust in God. So if we are a part of this, then trusting in ourselves is trusting in god........isn't it?

I believe it was Jesus that said if we have the faith of a mustard seed that we could move a mountain. So to me it seems to boil down to the faith that we have in ourselves...
If you are asking "God" for something then in reality you are asking yourself for this. Since you have the faith in yourself you turn your focus on this "want" and work to achieve it, knowing that this higher power has got your back. Even though this higher power is you since you are derived from this power.

Overall I believe what happens is we turn this "energy" towards obtaining our goals, be it consciously or subconsciously.

But then again it may be just pure dumb luck

I agree too that its difficult to put into words. I too see many things that I think about manifest themselves sometimes instantaneously which sometimes frightens me. They may be little things so to speak but I am still cautious because I am thinking if my thoughts could do this with this particular thing then it can with any other thing.

I am a person who meditates and have done some "silver mind control" among other things. What I have come to realize is that it is best to always be aware of what you are thinking as much as possible and not let too many random thoughts wander through your mind.

I know this is not easy for most of us but with practice it could be done. Its just like Geoff said be careful what you think about. The only way to be careful what you think about is to be aware of your thoughts as much as is humanly possible if not at all times.

Some forms of meditation if done correctly can help with this. But I am not qualified to recommend any particular one. Information on this could be found from many sources if you so desire to find it.

There seems to be three types of 'thing' that happens to most people.
The first is what happens purely by chance, either by being in the wrong place at the wrong time or the right place at the right time (or any place at any time).
The second is what happens if you wait long enough, like inheriting your rich uncle's money, or getting promotion when the top guy retires and everyone in the company moves up a notch to fill the gaps.
The third is getting what you've set out to get through your own efforts, determination, skill, whatever. I'm guessing that most Warriors would put themselves mainly in the third category? Even if they've also benefited from the first two.
From reading what others have said on this subject, it seems that there's a widespread belief in the law of attraction, but to be controversial, I think this 'law' is a bit like horoscopes with a heavy dose of reverse engineering. What I think happens for those who believe their horoscopes is that they engineer what happens to them to fit what the horoscope predicted.
The 'law' seems to be a means of ceating your own horoscope - so whatever occurs is made to be a manifestation of what you've asked for and if it doesn't really fit, that's only because you haven't asked properly. In other words, the law's right, it's you that's wrong.
I'm not criticising, merely putting an alternative view. If it works for you, that's great - but as far as I'm concerned the jury's still out.

I cannot fully agree with the Law of Attraction since its primary statement is that the universe is ready to change itself according to your wishes and desires in order to fulfill them.
I believe that the universe is like a living space full of energy streams, lines, flows. It lives by its own laws, most of which are beyond our comprehension. We are energy formations by nature, just small parts of the whole, we are born with enough inner energy to move planets, but what we do from birth to approximately three years of age is that we gather the energy streams and lines that are shown to us by our parents and other close people around. By the age of three we already gather enough streams to make our own world quite stable, stick to them and during the rest of the life we put all our energy to keep these streams together. It's a very hard job and we get tired during a daytime and need some sleep when we release our energy locks and let ourselves to be free and float among the streams of universe. Just in our dreams we begin to see places our physical body is not at when sleeping, feel what we could never feel in life, walk through walls or... fly.
Sure, each person and each living being gather a bit different package of streams that determines each one's unique world. But many streams are the same and that's why we are able to see similar things around and interact with each other.
When we try to analyze hidden beliefs, differences in mindset, in the way rich and poor people think, what we do is just trying to determine those streams of energy (from the whole universe around) that differ from person to person.
When we begin to work with our desires and wishes the greatest obstacle we meet is the lack of free energy. We put that tiny portion of energy left after holding our own world stable into efforts to change it, to "attract" money or other things or situations, and at the same time we keep putting almost all our energy into constant efforts of not letting our world go. We are so much afraid of freedom that when it occurs to a small degree we rush to a doctor to check whether we are crazy or not. "Doctor, I hear voices, see aura, feel colors, hear dog whistles, etc. - have I got CRAZY???"
What happens when we "change" our mindset and begin to look at things from another point of view? We simply let go some of the streams we locked and get enough energy to gather other ones. Such changed package of streams determines the changed world of ours.
When we begin to see that our wishes fulfill in the way we didn't mean it first, it simply shows that first we dreamt of a bit different world of ours but we still keep our old world unchanged and the wishes have to be integrated into it in the way it allows them. That's why, for example, when one friend of mine ask me to work with him on his leg, which was a constant pain for him for several years, and we started healing, in half a year he lost his job, got divorced and was near homeless. When he consulted me about dreadful experience he got I kept saying to him: "Don't stick to old, let it go! Accept any changes with gratitude and readiness." By the way, a year later he found a job of his dream and got married for the second time (and is very happy in marriage for already more than 12 years). When I asked about his leg he was puzzled: "What about my leg?" You see, he simply forgot what it all started with.
It is difficult to grasp such an idea but it is so natural to us that we use it all the time despite of our awareness.
As you can see, this theme is a vast one and I can go into details of it for days and days. So let's stop for now, but remember: if you want your desires to be fulfilled your way, first examine what you spend your energy on, what are your beliefs, principles, habits. Do they worth being kept in your life? Does your desire match your world? May be it's better to release some of the streams you stick to and get some freedom.
The result will be that you will have enough energy to gather right streams and change your world to the state, in which your desire is a most natural thing. It'll just BE there in your new world.

SergeyT says in his post (10-14-2009 11.15 am) that he has problems with the law of attraction because it implies that the universe adjusts itself to accommodate your personal wishes. Another problem I see is that if, for example, you wanted to attract a $1000 into your life, does that mean that someone else has lose a $1000? It may seem a trivial question and no doubt some 'Law' Guru will have an answer for this but if you change it a bit and say I want to be happy today, obviously that does not mean that your happiness will result in someone else having to be unhappy because feelings can expand and contract. But I can't believe that the universe will create a $1000 just for you with no one else losing anything, and if someone else has to lose for you to gain, it seems pretty selfish to try to attract money or any other physical thing into your life, so as the Thread title says "Be careful what you ask for.."
SergeyT also goes on to talk about analysing your hidden beliefs and changing our mindsets which reminded me of an 'exercise' I used to carry out regularly some years ago and which I'm going to start doing again. I think it came from Brian Tracy - the idea is to make 15 minutes (or longer if you can manage it) where you can isolate yourself from everything else and deliberately not think about anything at all but just let your mind wander and see what pops into it. The idea is not to 'judge' or evaluate any of your thoughts but just observe them as an outsider. I know it sounds crazy or tedious or maybe a waste of time, and I found it very difficult to do even for just 15 minutes because it is genuinely hard work, but I was truly amazed on occasions at what I'd 'discovered'. Other times the minutes really dragged by but it's very important not to have a clock you can peek at it or anything else which is likely to distract you. Overall, I found these sessions very useful because after the 'good' ones I could look back on what I'd observed and understand what things in my mindset I needed to work on. And even after the 'dull' ones I could make something positive by asking why I was just longing for the 15 minute timer to sound off.
It may sound like just ordinary meditation but my understanding is that standard meditation involves having a theme whereas this practice specifically involves having as little as possible in your mind.
I'd be interested in any feedback if anyone tries it.

On the subject of Brian Tracy I recently came across this quote from him:
"I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances"

Unfortunately it's a common misunderstanding about the nature of money. Let's put it straight: money is a unique invention of our civilization and it is simply a medium of exchange. So if you want to have $1,000 in your life that simply means that you have to change your own world to the extend that your products or services might be exchanged for $1,000. Does anyone lose at that? Not a single bit. A person (or several persons) who receives your products/services and gives in exchange common units of evaluation ($1,000) also gains since he/she receives what was needed for him/her. The same with feelings. One of our natural features is that we tend to "tune" ourselves to those we communicate with - we are social beings. If you feel happy those whith whom you communicate (as a whole - verbally, in gestures, energetically) will unconsciously "tune" themselves to your state. As a result they also will feel happier.

The meditation don21stc mentioned is a very good tool for stopping our inner conversation (which is the core tool for discovering the true nature of our mindset and gaining free energy). If you try to carefully observe yourself you will notice that all the time except when you are unconscious at sleep you keep saying things to yourself. These phrases are just those locks you use to hold your world stable. In fact there are a great number of methods applied to stop our inner conversation. In particular, when speaking about meditation without any theme I can remember TM (transcendental meditation of Maharishi). For some people it really produces great results. And any meditation with the theme also helps since the concentration on one subject "straightens" our flow of thoughts, puts aside many of them and allows to put more energy to one direction.

My parents are a classical example of this thread. They are both in their 80's and it amazes me every time we visit with them as all they talk is doom & gloom and they can't understand how I ask for something and receive it.

For example, where they live is a very large shopping complex with undercover car parking and whenever we go to that particular centre, I always get "there's never a car park under there, you'd better park out on the street".

My reply is always silence as I drive in and get a park within 10 spaces of the shopping centre entrance. Then their reply is that it was good luck that time.

I've come to the conclusion that some peole just aren't ready for this stuff yet and my parents fit into that bracket.
