Anybody here knows a good practice on how to dodge that burnout bullet? I don't just want to act on it when it hits me, it should be stop before it even starts.

Sometimes you just gotta say NO, you can't be everything to everyone, or even to do all the things you want to accomplish.

Sometimes you have to ask for competent help to get things done.

Sometimes you need some "you" time with nothing else on your mind but trying to enjoy life a little.

Sometimes you need to just sit back, clear your head and figure out if this is your own fault; perhaps you aren't organized or paying close enough attention to time limitations.

    Et Cetera.

Apologies in advance for using the same word to start four sentences. People feel stress for many different reasons and I have no real idea why you are feeling stress or want to avoid it all together. Every person has stress of some type, and it's impossible to not feel it.

        Build an emergency fund.

Don't spend more than you make.

Your emergency fund will always grow.

You'll always feel a sense of ease.

If things get too much you can lie in bed for a few days/weeks watching movies or reading books.

I didn't know how powerful money was for relieving stress until I stopped spending all of it lol

Living in scarcity mode hurts and doesn't go away.

Shane, did you try another browser? Anyway, if you store the off topic link in your favorites, perhaps you can access it there without stressing yourself.

      Will totally keep in mind!

I sometimes tend to forget to step out of things because of my focus. Its really not easy to just put things the way you really want them to especially when you're stressed out and all that.

      Thank you.

    Priorities and procrastination!

2 significant words at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Our stress comes from doing too many unimportant tasks that are not moving us towards our goals. This causes our time to be congested and when we take action on our priority tasks we tend to cram them into the little time we have left in order to get them done as opposed to giving them the correct focus they need.

Inorder to prioritize our day we need to get a list of key tasks ready before we go to bed, so when we wake up we can get right onto our most productive state!

Procrastination...delaying what can be done now till later again causes usto try get things done last minute, which leads to stress.

    Key steps to overcoming stress:

    Prioritize your day!
Get key tasks done as early as possible
Focus on key tasks and don't get side tracked into doing other unimportant things!
    Don't take things personally.
    Let the uncontrollable go!

Do activities that evokes the relaxation response. Relaxation is incompatible with being emotionally upset, with being stressed out.

To really relax, you need to action. Simply lying on the couch watching tv doesn't actually really relax the body. One thing that would work is to take 10 minutes every day to do a body scan, also called Shavasana. This relaxation pose is done at the end of every yoga class.

There is interesting research supporting the benefit of this type of relaxation versus simply lying on the couch. In a study published by The Lancet in the mid 1970s, dr. Chandra Patelrandomized 40 hypertensive persons to either:

    - practice Shavasana, or
    - relax lying on a couch

for half an hour, three times per week, for three months. The result? The study showed that the subjects who had practiced Shavasana had a much higher drop in their blood pressure than the subjects who had just relaxed on a couch.

Quality sleep, 6-7 hours a night, even 8 hours if you need it. Take a nap in the afternoon if you can. That should help keep you alert.

Prioritize what you want to accomplish each day and focus on only that. I think most of us get burned out when we try to do to much, when we would be better off just accomplishing worthwhile things everyday.

having gone through burn out and nervous breakdown twice ...the the second may have been 8 years later it was probably just an extension of the first ..

and haveing just got everything mostly back together ..a huge sign of burn out is when you are not working you are rewarding yourself or recharging by indulging in a self destructive..compulsive addictive behaviors ..so it could be drug you ..alcohol use ,, porn..partying .. when you start to work to do a thing and have to do a thing to get up the motivation to work..

when that thing is destructive the the relationship you are in and your long term health ..

now i bet there are not that many people who work 12 to 16 hours a day for long periods of time who don't have some addiction problem ..cocain is common..uppers .. even smart drugs that are being used in ways they where not approved for..like prozak or riddlingor those types ,,

its like is one coffee good enough ..or to get throuh the day you need a couple pots of coffee ..

so a good way is to make sure you have a life around work..that doesn't involve mostly drinking buddies or drug buddies ..or guildies in some game ..or a long list of porn sites ..
