I am in my late 20s and feel I have wasted a lot of time. Is it too late for me to achieve something worthwhile?

"Too late for what? If you slept through your 26th birthday, it's too late for you to experience that. It's too late for you to fight in the Vietnam War. It's too late for you to go through puberty or attend nursery school. It's probably too late for you to be breastfed.

It's not too late for you to fall in love.

It's not too late for you to have kids.

It's not too late for you to embark on an exciting career or series of careers.

It's not too late for you to read the complete works of Shakespeare; learn how to program computers; learn to dance; travel around the world; go to therapy; become an accomplished cook; sky dive; develop an appreciation for jazz; write a novel; get an advanced degree; save for your old age; read "In Search of Lost Time"; become a Christian, then an atheist, then a Scientologist; break a few bones; learn how to fix a toilet; develop a six-pack ...

Honestly, I'm 47, and I'll say this to you, whippersnapper: you're a f***ing kid, so get over yourself. I'm a kid too, believe it or not. I'm almost twice your age, and I'm just getting started! My dad is in his 80s, and he wrote two books last year.

You don't get to use age as an excuse. Get off your ass!

Also, learn about what economists call "sunk costs." If I give someone $100 on Monday, and he spends $50 on candy, he'll probably regret that purchase on Tuesday. In a way, he'll still think of himself as a guy with $100--half of which is wasted.

But what he really is is a guy with $50, just as he would be if I'd handed him a fifty-dollar bill. A sunk cost from yesterday should not be part of today's equation. What he should be thinking is this: "What should I do with my $50?"

What you are NOT is a person who has wasted 27 years. What you ARE is a person who has X number of years ahead of you. So what are you going to do with them?"

Wow that's an awesome response, and so true.

There are countless examples of people who didn't achieve success until their later years, and 27 is still young!

The fact that you think you're "too old" should actually be taken as motivation to work harder, instead of giving up.

If we could all think from that part of our brain all of the time, we would achieve a lot more.

Its never to late! If we wake up each day realizing that the slate is clean and opportunity is ready to be seized and can be made what we want then we will realize that we can make something of ourselves as ling as we start today.

That response is actually really nice.

Other examples are Colonel Sanders succeeding with KFC and Warren Buffett becoming wealthy after they turned 60+.

It's never too late... unless you believe it is and act that way.

It seems that pulling things from Quora is becoming very popular on Warrior Forum (I know the original source, look it up on Quora, there are a few very good replies there).

No, it is never too late to achieve something. At my gym, there was a gentleman in his 70s or 80s, doing weight training. I'm rather young and fit and he gave me a run for my money. His mobility wasn't really top notch and his reflexes were a bit slow but he always stayed until the end.

I was usually four days per week in the gym and I saw him there every single time.

    HOWEVER ...

Let's just be honest. Most people won't achieve much in life. Not because it is not possible, it is. But because most people are lazy *******s.

In the past, the average American used to watch TV eight hours a day. Now it may not be TV but YouTube. There was a survey about book readership and 74% of all the survey group read one or zero books in that given year. I will make a safe assumption that the book wasn't in Search of Lost Time which actually takes at least a few months to read.

There are few ambitious people out there who want to change something. Most will simply bitch and complain and blame anyone but themselves for their failure.

And usually people who failed to achieve something by a certain age, developed some really negative habits. Therefore, it is not that they can't achieve, it is that they've programmed themselves to fail. In life, like in the entire universe, momentum tends to be preserved. If you start in the right manner, you are likely to keep going this way. If you've started the other way, it requires a rather substantial effort to change directions.

This happens but for every lazy ******* who become a super achiever, there are 19 who are watching reruns of Seinfield.

For every guy at the gym who came every single day or at least, came a few times a week, there were at least seven who didn't. I know because I've actually asked someone in the sales department of the gym. For every single person who is taking action in IM, there are at least nine who will hope that they will take action, someday, tomorrow, but never today.

For every person that sets a NY resolution and sticks with it, there are a dozen who don't. And you know what's the irony? The person who sticks is the person that usually stuck with other things in the past too. The cases of someone to go from a complete failure of character (of character, not circumstance, will develop in a minute) to a complete success are very rare.

Now, you're going to tell me "but look, there is this guy who was dirt poor and made millions". I've said failure of character. Many successful people started at a rather low level. However, they were hard working at $5/hour before being hard working at $5.000.000 per year. They were doing their best before getting there, even if their results were not that impressive.

So sorry to burst your bubble but this is the true. Most people don't want to change. It is possible to become an astronaut if you want, but this doesn't mean that many people will put in the effort to get there.

    For who is wondering, the word censored was "b a s t a r d" ...

Holy cow! You cracked the case wide-open, Scooby! If it wasn't for you nosy kids and that big goofy dog... LOL!

Okay, seriously, the source from which I found the quote (and even placed it in a "quote box" and everything) is linked at the bottom of the first post itself. I never tried to claim any originality or ownership - if you click the link (or even just hover your mouse over it) the source of the quote has been pretty obvious since it was first posted.

Thank God you weren't around when I posted some Youtube videos before, lest you fly in here and accuse me of impersonating Art Williams or Jim Rohn.

Actually, my bubble is just fine. However, I didn't place the quote above in the hopes of shining some bright, sobering spotlight of reality on the world. Rather, I quoted the above piece with the hope of further inspiring Warriors that have already made it this far.

Your post made that abundantly clear.

That's okay... I just love the Wayback Machine over at the Internet Archive.

But I always appreciate being doubted (especially when it's related to something I did to help others!) LoL! -- Funny, I've never made so many post in an attempt to defend myself for anything I've ever said or done, much less for trying to lift some spirits.

Screw it. Trolls win, Hermes loses. Goodbye Warrior Forum!

      .

      P.S.
I'm not leaving cause I'm pissed, but rather because I've got far too many other things going on to defend myself every time someone else is bored.

Do you watch the visuals or listen to the tune? Well it depends on your personal enculturation. The images you see in this world are just thoughts that manifested from previous eras, hence why you can see the future at least you did once upon a time but can't recall it because of the myriads of thoughts that slip in your mind.

The visuals are here to show you what's in your soul once you see past the dragons, fairies and portray what lays hidden in your subconscious mind... thoughts sit between your mind and your soul. That lurk beneath the seamless layer of logic transcendental to the experiences you're living at this given moment and once you realize that nothing is good or bad the instant your mind is made to be limitless.

The third eye is the portal to your soul and once you awaken, you'll know the existential cause of your supreme being.
