There's a lot of personal preference to this. You can either get energy as an immediate quick boost or instead have something that would sustain you for a lot longer.
I choose the latter. That's why I avoid sugary an carbohydrate rich foods when I'm doing something mental so that I wouldn't crash. I feel a lot better in ketosis.
I would suggest eating some eggs (omega-3-s, DHA, EPA are great for the brain) and green veggies (the fiber feeds the good gut bacteria which will actually improve cognition in general).
As a source of fat butter and coconut oil are great and produce a lot of ketones.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Got to love fruits. Especially fresh fruit growing in your backyard.

When needing some serious brain juice I recommend to eat super nutritious but LIGHT- too many calories in the system can clog up the system - don't want to fall into a mini food coma!

Keep hydrated - quality h20, tea, coffee( ESP bullet proof coffee- I make my own).

A protein breakfast helps me a lot. That's not a single food, but more of a food group. Keeps the blood sugar stable and makes me feel strong.

Black coffee, buttered toast, orange juice, and yoghurt. Breakfast of champs. I also have a pretty strong sweet tooth, and like to get myself a bag of hard-shelled chocolate candy to chew on for extended periods. Not the healthiest, but does the trick for me.

I believe omega 3 is great and its effects can be felt after consistent long term use. You feel sharper and and find your problem solving skills are more effective. Green tea is also a great alternative to coffee and great antioxidants that can get rid of toxins and regulate bodily function.

Some other things you should include in your daily regime is:

    -Vitamin C
-A vegetable shake that contains multiple types of vegetables
    -Exercise
    -Meditation

Things I eat for better mind power:
    Wholegrains
The brain cannot work without energy. The ability to concentrate and focus comes from the adequate, steady supply of energy - in the form of glucose in our blood to the brain. The wholegrains with a low-GI, which release glucose slowly into the bloodstream, keeping you mentally alert throughout the day. You should choose 'brown' cereals, wheatbran, granary bread and brown pasta.
    Oily fish
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) cannot be made by the body and must be obtained through diet. The most effective omega-3 fats as EPA and DHA can be found in oily fish. Good sources include linseed (flaxseed) oil, soya bean oil, pumpkin seeds, walnut oil and soya beans. They are good for healthy brain function, the heart, joints and general wellbeing. The EPA and DHA in oily fish is in a ready-made form, which enables the body to use it easily. The main sources of oily fish include salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, pilchards and kippers. DHA levels have been linked to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and memory loss.
    Blueberry
Consumption of blueberries may be effective in improving or delaying short term memory loss.
    Tomatoes
Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that can be found in tomatoes. This antioxidant could help protect against the kind of free radical damage to cells which occurs in the development of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's.
    Vitamins
Certain B vitamins - B6, B12 and folic acid reduce levels of homocysteine in the blood. Elevated levels of homocysteine are associated with increased risk of stroke, cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. High doses of B6, B12 and folic acid can result in significantly less brain shrinkage.
    Blackcurrants
Vitamin C has the power to increase mental agility. One of the best sources of this vital vitamin are blackcurrants.
    Pumpkin seeds
Just a handful of pumpkin seeds a day is all you need to get your recommended daily amount of zinc. Zinc is vital for enhancing memory and thinking skills.
    Broccoli
Broccoli is not my favorite vegetable to eat but it is a great source of vitamin K, which is known to enhance cognitive function and improve brainpower.
    Walnuts
A good intake of vitamin E might help to prevent cognitive decline. Nuts are a great source of vitamin E along with leafy green vegetables, asparagus, olives, seeds, eggs, brown rice and wholegrains.

For the last few weeks, I've been focusing on eating the following every day:

    2+ fruits
    3+ vegetables
    8+ glasses of water

My energy levels are much higher, my attention span is extending, and I'm surprised how different mindful eating can be.
