10 Ways to Stop Procrastinating And Do More

We are all familiar with procrastination. Delaying, putting off things, hiding from work and only facing it when it's unavoidable it's a terrible habit that prevents us from achieving greater results in life.
  • So, what can we do to stop procrastinating?
  • There is always more things to be done that you can actually get done. So, you need to prioritize and ask yourself if you're getting the right things done.
  • Using a to-do list is very helpful. But make sure to include there also the tasks you are avoiding for so long. Remember to set deadlines.
  • We all have temptations around us. We check our email inbox over and over again, we call our friends, we just can't keep focused on what we're doing. So, eliminate all the distractions you have around you and just focus on the task you're doing.
  • Some tasks are really long and may leave you overwhelmed. So, try to break down the task into sub-tasks and you'll see it will go much more smoothly.
  • You should start your day with the harder tasks. This is when you are fresher and you'll have more chances of succeeding.
  • Have a reward for the harder tasks. If you finish this, you'll get to do something you want like going to the movies for example.
  • Have a consequence that will detain you from avoiding the task. Find something that you really don't like.
  • Change your environment. If you are always working in the same room try a different room or a coffee shop for example. This may have a deep impact on your productivity.
  • Make your intentions public. This will add pressure but for some of us, avoiding embarrassment is the mightiest motivator.
  • Stop over-complicating things. Are you waiting for the perfect time to do this? There's never a perfect time. If you keep waiting for one, you are never going to accomplish anything.

I see myself doing the perfect time a lot..... I notice it though and try to ignore it and just push through.

I have found myself that the two biggest things to help me are to not think about it, just do it.

Also, an accountability partner can really help. I work out at a gym, and a lot of days I just don't want to move. I am determined to go every other day - but there are days I would rather stay home and sleep.

The same goes for my partner. We just have said to each other, we HAVE to go every other day. There is no reason why not.

"To do" lists are certainly very helpful. They remind you of exactly what you need to get done and you feel a sense of accomplishment when you cross an item off your list.

I used to start cleaning or do something that didn't matter that much during the day and then lose focus on my work. I now hire someone else to clean and never worry about that anymore. That saved me from so much procrastination!

Procrastination is #1 factor for not achieving success. There are lots of ways to overcome it, however. I like getting up early, at the same time, going to bed at the same time, eliminate all kinds of distractions and work while having a chill music. It helps a lot.

Coincidentally, I just posted a productivity article on my website.

    - Agreed with organizing priorities. A TON of stuff don't need to be done at all, and having a big pile of stuff to do will usually discourage you. Cut out or delegate the stuff you don't need.

    - Dividing it into sub-tasks is a nice tip. I read from David Allen that another way to look at it is to think of the "next action" steps. "Plan project" can be subdivided into: brainstorm ideas on a piece of paper, email team members on their ideas, call client to ask for specifications, etc.

    - Add the "self-starter" from Napoleon Hill: Whenever you feel yourself procrastinating, command yourself to "DO IT NOW!"

I usually find that if I don't know how to do a certain task that needs to be done, and I think that it will take a long time and be hard to do, I procrastinate.

Then, after actually starting, I always find it was not as bad as I thought it would be.

Just get started... don't worry how long it will take. Even if you do a little each day, it all adds up very quickly.

Exactly So many times the same thing happened to me, but when you start and put them into smaller steps it can be much easier and enjoyable. Some things that I don't have time to do, I just outsource to someone who enjoys doing it.

Big tasks can be intimidating, but only when you put them into smaller tasks you figure out that it's not so big after all.

Step by step and you will get there

This is such a great thread - procrastination has affected me my entire life. I would always put off homework until the day it was due. I would keep researching and researching to discover how to sell online, but I would never actually try anything. I could never find that "thing" that would help me.

2016 is a year of change for me. I will do what I can to make it happen - whatever 'it' happens to be. It for now is making an income online. That is very important to me and I don't think I can survive much longer without it.

In my opinion people always procrastinate when they have to do something they don't like. Whenever you have something you're happy with on your hands, you can't wait to get down to work. I remember when I started in online marketing I just couldn't make money and after a while I was procrastinating everything, then I started to make some money and I started to work more, when I managed to find a way to earn lots of money with Amazon I was working all day long and was very happy to be doing so...
