We are all familiar with procrastination. Delaying, putting off things, hiding from work and only facing it when it's unavoidable it's a terrible habit that prevents us from achieving greater results in life.
- So, what can we do to stop procrastinating?
- There is always more things to be done that you can actually get done. So, you need to prioritize and ask yourself if you're getting the right things done.
- Using a to-do list is very helpful. But make sure to include there also the tasks you are avoiding for so long. Remember to set deadlines.
- We all have temptations around us. We check our email inbox over and over again, we call our friends, we just can't keep focused on what we're doing. So, eliminate all the distractions you have around you and just focus on the task you're doing.
- Some tasks are really long and may leave you overwhelmed. So, try to break down the task into sub-tasks and you'll see it will go much more smoothly.
- You should start your day with the harder tasks. This is when you are fresher and you'll have more chances of succeeding.
- Have a reward for the harder tasks. If you finish this, you'll get to do something you want like going to the movies for example.
- Have a consequence that will detain you from avoiding the task. Find something that you really don't like.
- Change your environment. If you are always working in the same room try a different room or a coffee shop for example. This may have a deep impact on your productivity.
- Make your intentions public. This will add pressure but for some of us, avoiding embarrassment is the mightiest motivator.
- Stop over-complicating things. Are you waiting for the perfect time to do this? There's never a perfect time. If you keep waiting for one, you are never going to accomplish anything.
What would an extra $17,342 a month do for you?
