[Be Your Own Boss]

Being your own boss is not just about writing your own checks and controlling your finances. Being your own boss is a mindset. You must begin to take full responsibility for your life instead of relying on external sources for support.

Now, there is nothing wrong with accepting external support but it shouldn't be a situation where you're completely dependent on external sources to achieve and maintain success. You must become "success". Your success is the result of your actions and your faith. Hoping.....trying to get lucky....and praying....are mostly irrelevant without the addition of consistent and deliberate actions on your part.

You must work hard and smart to create the life you want to live. If you want to be your own boss you must first learn to be the boss of your mind and your emotions. In order to create success in various areas of your life, you will be required to develop self-discipline. Instead of letting your emotions dictate your actions, stop for a second and ask yourself if the actions you're taking are truly congruent with your goals.

If you sit down for a second and assess the actions you've been taking for the last couple of days you will find that although you may be an intelligent individual, some of your actions & decisions may not be aligned with your intelligence. And although you may be goal-oriented, some of your actions may not be aligned with your goals. That is why it is important to take full responsibility for your life.

Control your time.

Control your actions.

Control your life.

Be a Boss!

Working for another man is hard, and working for yourself is hard. So for me personally it's not a matter of whether it is hard or not, it is a matter of whether I would like to work for another man or would I like to work for myself. Both have their pros and cons.

Hey Trey Morgan, thanks for your interesting article about a spirit of boss.
If I can allow to add another ingredient, it's the motivation.
Without, I'm not sure about results ;-)

Yes motivation is one of the keys to doing anything in life. There needs to be some form of motivation to take action. Ideally you want to look inside yourself and summon an internal motivation as opposed to looking outwards for motivation. External motivation is temporary for the most part, you need to find the motivation inside which is also known as having "drive".

Yes it may be a difficult process to go from blaming others to taking full responsibility especially if you've spent the majority of your life blaming others, but once you make the shift to taking responsibility for your life, you will begin to realize how powerful you're.

If you're the problem then you're the solution. If you blame someone else, then you're giving him/her control over the situation. It's a lot more difficult to control someone else than it is to control yourself. Therefore it makes a lot more sense to assume control over your life instead of blaming others for your lack of success and achievement.

This is so true. People who complain and blame others tend to experience the same unfortunate events over and over again. Only those who are able to notice the pattern of similar events and take responsibility for those events, will be able to take the actions necessary to get a different outcome.

Bad circumstances are not always your fault, but if you take responsibility for it all the same, you' will enable the power you need to make a change and do something about your situation.

Agreed with the idea here. The sure way to get stuck in life is to depend on others (your office's boss, your parents, your spouse, the government, etc.) for your success.

NOBODY is going to hand you a multi-billion-dollar business. NOBODY is going to give you an athlete's body. NOBODY is going to make your life perfect.

You need to EARN all of that yourself.

Yes we all have to pay our dues and truly deserve any outcome we strive for. If you want to achieve something in life, figure out what you must do in order to deserve that achievement and then do it. You will without a doubt be required to step out of your comfort zone and do something you may have never done before. That is what being a boss is all about. It's about doing what you have to do despite the discomfort that may be associated with the action(s).

Being in a situation where you work for someone else was terrifying since you never know what to expect. The best thing is you don't have to deal with all the papers required for you to be payed.

But being your own boss is the best experience ever since you are the only one in control of your business and time you have. For sure you work hard but you know what you are working for and the felling of helping others is the best felling to have.

One of my jobs is also being dance instructor where I bring joy to people wanting to learn how to dance, and when you see them having a great time dancing with others and having laughs, it makes everything worthwhile.

If you never try, you will never know

Yeah man that's the thing. Being a boss is not about actually being a boss of your own company. You can have a boss mentality and still work for somebody, as long as you're doing what you love. You gave a great example with your job as a dance instructor. You're not a dance instructor just because you need the money, you do it because you love it and you take charge of your classes like a boss.

I don't mind working for someone. But when business is slow, and I am having a difficult time paying bills - it would be helpful to earn an income on the side.

I really enjoy where I work - I just need to get over the slow months hump. If things take off with becoming my own boss, that is even better.

Yeah my man, if you don't mind working for someone else then that is fine. Personally, I hated working for someone else, so if I were to continue to stay in my past jobs, I would've been miserable and I would've been living below my potential.

Not everybody was made to be their own Boss, but you can still have the "Boss Mentality" in everything you do. Even when I was working a 9-5 I still had a "Boss Mentality" but for me I couldn't fully step into that mentality until I freed myself from my job.

    Great post Trey.

Taking 100% responsibility for your Life/outcomes in Life isn't (initially) an easy thing to do. (At least that's what I experienced.) However once you've "mastered" it, it's incredibly empowering.

Because (as W. Clement Stone put it: "You can re-create and un-create anything at will.")

I agree it's actually somewhat painful to take responsibility for your life. However, if you're ambitious and you want to achieve the extraordinary, you have to stop waiting for someone to come to your rescue, and instead take full responsibility for your success.

Thanks for the feedback on my blog post.

For anyone who wants a relevant summary of the post.....

A lot of people know what they need to do to be successful, but a lot of times they end up struggling longer than necessary because they don't understand that fear is not something to be avoided when on the pursuit of an extraordinary achievement. It only makes sense if you want to change your situation you will have to do something different, and doing something different is going to require you to do the things you normally wouldn't do despite fear and/or discomfort. It's as simple as that (although not easy). A lot of the things we fear, are so ridiculous when you detach from emotion and you look at it from a logical stand-point.

I have to be honest, I didn't listen to your video from Failure Is An Illusion…You Can’t Fail | Fearless Boss the first time around however you seem like a really cool guy.

You're successful just because of the fact that you're alive. You're alive, you are able to read this blog, and you have what it takes to achieve anything you put your mind to.
For me that reminds me that how blessed/lucky we all are. Things could be so much worse. I'm going to keep that in mind.

As you said: "Life is amazing."

            Thanks Trey.

I don't like to work for someone else too, sometimes it's just hard to push things in the right path. But if we could, and can work together like a charm, that would be okay.

So the final path would be working like a Boss in any way that's so true buddy so won't be and have to be dependent to that in many ways.

Life is so short and time is not limitless, if everything can be hold in the hands of ourselves we are unstoppable.

Yeah man it's great to work with like-minded individuals who can help to push you to be a better version of yourself, but you definitely don't want to be in situation where you're completely dependent on someone or something outside of yourself.

Not everyone has such mindset. There are two kind of people in this world. One that are their own boss and the one who only want to work for some time for others. Their mindset is not according to run their own business or to take full responsibilities.

If you focus on managing your time, you would also be able to manage your actions and life better and enjoy the rewards of being a boss. You can do this by always eliminating the non-essential.

I like working for someone because I think that it helps in self-development, having other people criticize your performance, and having colleagues to talk to and share your opinions and ideas with. On the other hand, being self-employed or having your own source of income is a very good is healthy especially if your source of income is already stable. But as mentioned in the other threads, it is hard. No man is an island after all.

It is true that being your own boss is a mindset because regardless of whether you work for another person or not, if you cannot be the boss of when you work or not have the discipline and desire to improve your life, then it's going to be challenging.

There are things that we cannot control no matter how good we are at mastering the "being your own boss" principle. I think that it's important to have faith at a bigger power. No matter how rich, skillful, big of a person we are, if there is selfishness, nobody will really look up to you as the "boss".

Nice ideas. But before becoming your own boss one should work under someone to find out flaws that hinder your success. Criticism is the key here and it's the main factor that defines how you will shape your management skills when you start handling business on your own.
