HEY!!! Hey You! Shiny New Thingy in Here!!! How to Finally Make Money Online!!

Greetings all,

Yeah... sorry about that horrible thread title. But you're reading this, so I guess it got your attention, right?

I see a lot of people in the main forum still asking the same questions about how to make this internet marketing thing work for them. It reminds me of when I first landed in this forum and was trying to make sense of it all.

Looking back at the lessons I've learned over the years - lessons many experienced marketers in this forum tried to teach me but I had to learn it the hard way - the one thing that really held me back for years, was that I never stuck with a single strategy and focused all my energy on it.

Now I know some marketers are going to say that you should never put all your eggs in one basket and rather have multiple income streams. Look, that makes sense. When you're already coining it. But when you're first starting out, and you do what I did and run around trying to put eggs in 20 different baskets and you have no idea what you're doing, you're going to:
A) tire yourself out
B) make very slow, painful progress (if any)
C) see very little in results and returns from any of them
D) get discouraged and quit

Maybe put all those other baskets aside for later and choose one to run with for now, OK?

Seriously, for me, the biggest lesson I have learned to date is to make one strategy your core business and then focus on that strategy. Educate yourself in that strategy. Invest your time and resources into it. Become an expert at it. Aim to be the best at it. Heck, once you've done that, maybe you can come back here and sell us a WSO showing us how what you have done has worked for you.

I don't buy into the "fake it 'til you make it" way of doing things in this industry. Sure it may have worked for some, but I bet that for each individual who managed to "make it", there are thousands of others who got found out and had their reputations ruined, and gave the whole internet marketing jive a bad name too so now nobody trusts anyone.

Don't fake it. You know nothing. Don't deny it - own it and then do something about it. Take up a simple, uncomplicated, time-proven strategy and just keep working at it until you start seeing rewards. No, you probably won't make $409,823.29 by this time next week. But if you keep at it, you will start making sales and then you can build on that. One simple victory after another.

"But what strategy, dude?"

Dude, they're screaming at you from almost every page in this forum. Right here in this forum I read about a guy who knew nothing but somebody told him to build a list. So he focused all of his time and energy into building a list. He learned how to make a squeeze page. He learned how to set up an autoresponder. He learned how to research a topic and write an ebook to give away. He chose a niche and he researched it, studied it, became knowledgeable in it, and then wrote blog posts, articles and email newsletters about everything he knew and learned. Everything he did was focused upon building that list and feeding his subscribers with what they wanted. He didn't get distracted by other WSO's or other shiny new thingies, but if a WSO came along that would help him build his list, he invested in his education. But if it had nothing to do with his core focus which was building his list and feeding his list, he ignored it. This guy started out with no knowledge and little money but he had an iron will to succeed and he did. He started slow but over time built his list to a couple thousand subscribers and all he does is profit off that list. After dedication to one strategy and hard work over a period of time, he is now in a position to "click a button and make money". He worked hard for it. He earned it.

Do you think you can do something like that? Of course you can! Pick a strategy, and focus all your energy into it.

Want to be a seller on WF and make money in the IM niche? Instead of fakin' it (and kidding yourself), invest your time and resources into learning everything you can about traffic generation (for example), then start a blog, get an affiliate product to sell, and then put into practice what you've learned about driving traffic to an offer. When you get results from what you've learned and can replicate it, then there's nothing stopping you from posting your own genuine WSO here showing your fellow journeymen what you did to generate traffic and earn from it.

That is one way this forum will continue to be a community of people sharing their successes with one another and building one another up.

So shiny new thingy here: Decide on a strategy and stick with it until you see results, and then build on it.

If anyone wants to share similar lessons / experiences, and what you focused on to start seeing success, please share.

Really good post! I too have been a victim of the shiny syndrome, and new people come into the industry every day and keep getting distracted by it. Focus on a core business, as you say, is the key. Focus and persistence. Don't expect quick profits; just expect results, and learn from them.

    cheers,

    Jon.

I believe that the shiny "new object syndrome" boils down to one fundamental problem, that is most of us have and is part of our human nature ,"Laziness"

We are searching for that "one" thing that will make us the most money with the least amount of effort so ........On we go from one thing to another...
    And
As you have said, and I concur "concentration" and "focus" coupled with "effort" I.E. work is what will bring results......

    Thanks for the good post

    That's total B.S.

There are many issues people have besides laziness.

    #1 Lack of focus.

#2 No business experience or acumen.

    #3 A "I showed up so I win" mentality.

    #4 No work ethic.

    #5 No talent or creativity.

I certainly am not lazy and I personally don't know a whole lot of people who are.

If you are looking for excuses, they are not hard to find.

There are lots of potential reasons people fail - laziness may be one for some, but many who come into this internet marketing world do so out of desperation, so in my experience many people are prepared to work hard but their focus is spread too thin and wide and they get overwhelmed. Some just need to learn where to put their focus.

Some came here because they were sold on a pipe dream of instant millions with a click of a button by guys who market themselves as "the lazy guy who got rich" - but even those guys had to work to make those profits (if they did actually profit). Lazy guys expecting huge success with no input will need to learn very quickly that success comes only with focus, perseverance and work.

There are hundreds of threads like yours over weeks of this month and they mean noot , I am not putting down what you have written just does not work anymore , they just want to be hand held through the process.

They just ask questions but never contribute to the forum and they dont want to search ( to much effort ) but if the Mods like the old ones did just nuke them before they made it to the main board then things change.

I hear ya, Regional Warrior. There are similar threads all the time, just like I remember seeing them back when I first started. As I referred to in the OP, I had been told many times to focus on one thing when I was starting out, but I was one of those who didn't take that message in. I had to learn it the hard way. I guess I'm hoping somebody who reads this will believe it and take the advice. If one person benefits from the thread, I'll be stoked. The forum can get back to being a healthy community of contributors if we can drown out the garbage with good threads again.

I think that most people who jump from one thing to another suffer from insecurity!

Like they started something, say blogging and they are not seeing any results at all, just putting in a lot of time and effort and money

so of course they start wondering
      - are THEY doing something wrong
or - has everyone been lying to them and there's nothing anyone can do to make money this was
      - have they just given themselves too little tim
or - are they just wasting their time

and they go searching round for answers, but the internet being what it is they will not find any or too many and this will confuse them more and they'll be even more insecure.

And then someone comes along with a 'proven system', a 'simple blueprint' and it is only $37,99 for the next six hours and the counter's ticking and then they try to follow the proven system, but this system has lots of holes in it, and lots of questions stay unanswered, and they find they will need this at $17,99 per month and that at $97 per year and they have already lost about $1999 so they think they shouldn't spend more at this point ...

and then the next proven system comes along, uh only $1 today ...

oh yeah and let's not forget to mention a lot of Warriors make some good income on that ...

Shiny Object Syndrome was my downfall as well for quite some time.

Building a business online takes a hell of a lot of work, and chasing after every little new thing makes it just about impossible to do.

Excellent post, Nick! A lot of newbies here can benefit from this.

    Regards,
    Daniel

  • The thing is that,
Most People online search for â€Å"Money to Earn†instead of â€Å"Skills to learnâ€Â

Even if you learn 1 single skill online,
you can start generating Massive Amounts Income.

As soon as I realized that, The $$$ started chasing me wherever I went.

In order to know what will work for you, ask yourself what skill would you wish to learn ?

    Here are a few examples:
    Listbuilding
    Affiliate Marketing
    Product Creation
    Copy Writing
    Solo Ads
    Etc…

Please don’t get overwhelmed and don’t choose based on difficulty.
Once you make an Absolute Decision.

    It’s Go-Time !

From that point on you can STOP buying Everything or Anything which is NOT Related to your Decision.

Unfortunately That is were most people mess up big time…

You see they just want to â€Å"Make money Online†buying tons of products learning a million things at once, and spending a lot of money.

On the contrary the person who only buys products he/she needs in order to get closer to his/her goal.

Saves a lot of money and gets there way faster.

â€Å"You don’t have to be Great to Get Started, But you Have to Get Started to be Greatâ€Â

Start making a Decision on the Income Stream you want to focus on.
Once you do that, you will Succeed.
