Most of us are connected one way or another to some "guru". We may have never met the person but we come across their material on the web and this allows us to become followers.

My gurus are:

Brian Tracy
Jim Rohn
Adam Urbanski

Who are your gurus?
#guru

The first real book that I ever read about affiliate marketing was Ewen Chias "How I made my first million on the internet and how you can too!" Now mind you, I am a complete newbie, but his system seems very logical and yet it is a simple blue print that anyone can do. So my guru per se would be Ewen.

I have never read anything bad about him or his products and he seems to always be "above the board". I am in the process of trying the blue print that he has and I will let everyone know how it goes!

  • I'm a big fan of James Ray. I think his stuff really covers all areas of life not just the money and love ones that are more popular.

I think his material really helps you live a more overall successful life instead of just being successful in a couple of areas and lacking in others.

    Cheers,
    Tristan

I don't believe he's technically a 'guru' per se. But I've felt myself really connected to Alex Jeffrey's since I just started following his stuff a short while ago. Between him and one of his students they're the ones who've got me finally starting up on my own actual Online business.
Jeffrey's just got married the other day by the way, cheers to him and his new wife!

Yanik Silver once taught me something that has changed my business dramatically....OVERDELIVER

If you over-deliver you will get repeat customers and upsells and be able to make a ton more money in the long run. Think of your customers as clients, not transactional buyers. Dont try and milk them on their first purchase, but throw in some extras in their purchase upon delivery.

They will be thrilled and come back for more...its a win-win for everybody.

We can debate whether Robert Kiyosaki is a scam artist for the next ten years, but he is an excellent sales person and marketer, continues to positively impact people, is a multi multi multi multi millionaire and lives a life all of us would love to live.

I am not saying he does not have his faults, has John T Reed been able to do what Robert has with his life? Other than try to put him down.

I am not here to argue or fight over something that we disagree on. There are many people on both sides, just like politics, someone who is against abortion will have a very hard time convincing a pro choice person to come on there side.

There are some things we should agree to disagree on. I am sure most or all of us here, are here to network and learn from each other, not get in a quarrel.

I think another thing to keep in mind is to follow the good stuff of the guru, not the guru his/herself.

I like the concept of Harmonic Wealth, but the 'spiritual' aspect of it should never be commercialized. Hence, the sweat lodge tragedy.

I've been to one of James Ray's harmonic wealth weekend seminar and he KNOWS how to sell well. A lot of his high-priced seminars were created to get you to buy an ever higher priced product. He's a hard seller that took it that extreme.

Jim Jones, L. Ron Hubbard, James Ray, etc, were all good motivated cult speakers, but many followed the "guru" not themselves.

I agree with biggsy's post -- your ultimate guru is yourself.

continuing with the trendy trend in this thread of non-answers, there was the man who taught me how to properly engage in The Work. Of course, part of the completion of that process was in effect forgetting him.

Though one thing he said that I never forgot..

"It is impossible to recognize a wrong way without knowing the right way. This means that it is no use troubling oneself how to recognize a wrong way. One must think of how to find the right way."

I agree it is nice to be inspired by them, rags to riches sort of stuff, filter those useful views and probably apply them in our day to day struggles. Anyways they are just humans like all of us, prone errors but it's their countless "trial and error" pursuits that probably put them to where they are now.

Chris Howard is a pretty good mentor. He doesn't coach on any topic in particular, but his is a Life Coach, teaching you to overcome your fears and how to expand yourself.

If you can't attend one of his seminars, a good book of his to read is "Turning Passions Into Profits". In it he takes you through the steps of how to overcome limiting decisions that are preventing you from obtaining your goals. As well as lots of other tricks that you can employ at home with a little peace and quiet. I have read it and think it is well worth the money. However, you should also be able to get a copy from your library. I guarantee that you will read it in less than a week, and that you will have learnt an awful lot about yourself and what you could achieve, if you put your mind to it.

It worked for me, and I am now in the process of setting up my own business as a result.

I haven't come across a "guru" yet that was worth following. Only some poor Wannabe gurus sending out a message about "a super successful money making method one of his friends developed" like twice a day.

So far, I found a lot more value in the WSO's I purchased here than in any "superguru" product. So for me, the real "gurus" are the people here on the WF, sharing their ideas and tactics in WSO's and giving you real value through their support.

That word Guru as it applies to IM may be a misnomer
Looking at the preceeding threads, gurus come in different flavours

          from Wikipedia..
A guru (Sanskrit: गुरु) is one who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and who uses it to guide others (teacher). As a principle for the development of consciousness it leads the creation from unreality to reality, from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. In its purest form this principle manifests on earth as a divine incarnation (saint), a person with supreme knowledge about God and all creation.[1] Other forms of manifestation of this principle also include parents, school teachers [1], non-human objects (books) and even one's own intellectual discipline.

Gurus that teach and Gurus that sell..

From the wide variety of gurus mentioned in this thread it seems that there's no universal True Guru and anyway many of them are limited to IM - wouldn't you expect a guru to be something more than a techician?
I would say that many of those mentioned are akin to top althletes or sportsmen in that they are top achievers in a narrow field but in the case of IM gurus, they're also exceptional communicators and they are set on making money directly from their followers. Obviously, nothing wrong with making money but my opinion is that there are too many people with the mystical name 'guru' attached to them who should perhaps be called 'super salesmen' - sorry to be a tad cynical.

You are your own GURU.. in essence all a guru is in reality is someone that knows more than the next person. What do we know.. everyone knows something about something and in essense knowing that you know something about something you can always know more which in reality makes you a GURU on many levels. The thought may sound rhetorical in nature but there's some merit and credence to what I am saying.

Eban Pagan is outstanding. Very analytical approach, but always brings it round to how you can apply it (whatever he's discussing at the time) in the real world.

There are so many great gurus out there but I agree with a few people above. For business/marketing Eben Pagan is nearly unmatched in value and honesty. His pricing is very fair (Wake Up Productive was an amazing value for $300).

For overall self help & motivation, Tony Robbins is one of my favorites. He's a great speaker and his products are very well done (and will help if you use them!). I was glad to see him really embrace technology and the internet over the past year and he's really learned how to move the free line and provide a ton of content. Everyone.

I attempt to learn from everyone and everything.

I wrote a blog post recently about the Guru Syndrome. In some ways a personal development program can hurt you. If your guru goes South what's going to happen to you?

You are the best guru you could ever have.

I find Bob Doyle, Abraham-Hicks and Joe Vitale inspiring. I learn a great deal from them. I also learn much more from people who criticize me. I learn from failures.

The lesson is in the moment, not the person.

Jay Abraham was one of the first to get me excited about marketing, though most of his stuff (which he readily admits) comes from Claude Hopkins and others from a century ago.

Gary Halbert was amazing and lots of fun to read. Inspirational. Irreverent.

Some of the best stuff I've learned about IM has been the FREE stuff available (sometimes as sales pitches for one of their products)...
Eben Pagan's videos. Frank Kern's videos.

Definitely Mark Ling's site Affilorama.com has been helpful.

The high-priced courses ($1995 and up) have usually been helpful, but no more valuable, and sometimes not even as good, as some $77 products.

So, I agree with others about not getting too caught up in "guru worship."

For opening up the world of internet marketing for me, for really top of the range value in content and for really driving home (through his material) the idea that business, and internet based business in particular, can really benefit both parties (I was brought up with the idea that business is evil). I have learned a lot from Frank Kern and John Reese. I haven't bought their products, but their free information has been good over the years. There are a lot of good internet marketers out there. I think some more good ones are Yanik Silver and Amish Shah. They teach valuable information.

Thanks for posting this. I don't have a particular guru but this post has given me a long list of names to help me start looking. What do you think? A door to door approach is best, right?

"Excuse me, Sir? I've been told that you're a top notch guru and I've recently found myself guru-less. I was wondering.. you know.. if it's not too much to ask...

I don't have a specific guru that I listen to as many of the self-help gurus have similar messages. However I really enjoy Tony Robbins's stuff.

This can be a very long list! While I am not going to bore you with my list this post has prompted me to start my list and do a post on it sometime.
