I'd have to agree with your thread title. The greatest (and often fastest) advances in lifestyle growth have always come from personal improvement and development.

study books on cooking ..and how to cook healthy food that tastes good ..then maby try gardening and growing a small amount of your own food ..greens and vegies you like to eat ..developing the self displine to maintain a healthy body every day ..is critical to long term success ..

id stay away from relationship book written by those who have been divorced sometime many times ..

money management book might be good.. the richest man in babalon ..

read books that will help you develope real skills .. if you have read hundreds of self help books that stress goal setting and don't have a list of goals..it's time to go down a path that may really help ..

I absolutely agree, I didn't really start to make any significant progress until I started listening to self development audio book on a daily basis. Now I can't get enough of them! The very first one I listened to was 'The success principles - how to get from where you are to where you want to be' by Jack Canfield it's a great book and one that I have listened to more than once and I know I will listen to it again!
    Happy reading Vic

  • The best Self Help book that I have read is The Compound Effect - Darren Hardy. It talks about how doing constantly good small steps compounds to success and the importance of good influences.

I have listened to motivational material for 25 years now and come from a family of positive thinkers. It really does work. It's kind of like keeping yourself in an amniotic sack of nourishment (always looking for new metaphors, lol). You know it works when you see others who don't have it, and how resistant they are to not having it. Now that I'm a little older, I've seen the results of people who don't have all the pieces. It seems motivational thinking is not alone, I've also studied doctoral level psychoanalysis on my own, and I think that's been helpful also. I'm not saying I'm perfect and have always achieved high levels of financial success, but then I realize there are 6 billion people on Earth and there's no free lunch.
