Whatever you do, do it as......

One of the great ways to train your daily efficiency is this:
Whatever you do, do it as BUSINESS.

Try to do it for at least 1-2 hours for instance, even when you don't work but do casual things. This trains you to have an acute business attitude and be always on alert!

In ancient Rome and among Vikings they had similar rule but applied to martial laws and military education - whatever they did, even in casual daily life chores was done with the view that it is a part of a war, or preparation for the war. This allowed them to always be on the top of their performance and power.

Great businessmen also never take vacations - they enjoy their work and do it even on so-called leisure time (which they never actually have in usual sense), when they may meet and discuss business with other businessmen during the golf game.

But we are all too much relaxed....)) This way we will never make any money or achieve anything worthwhile in life and business.

It is time to be like a soldier. I always wondered why this forum is called "Warrior Forum"?.... Most people don't live like warriors at all.

Let's try some, will you?

It's easy to see from your post that you have never actually been a soldier. The military demands that you take vacations (called) R & R. Even when I fought in the Vietnam war I took a 'vacation' to Kuala Lumpur for 5 days and spent my 20th birthday on R & R in Hong Kong for 10 days.

Vacation is an important part of relieving stress, clearing your mind and appreciating all aspects of life - not just the cynical pursuit of money above all else.

There is more to life than money, but for most people they don't discover that fact until they actually attain money.

Many of us have and do live like warriors and have the fruits of our efforts which include rest and relaxation, to show for it.

    Cheers. - Frank

Hi Frank, thanks for your contribution to the post. Yeah in a way I agree that relaxation is very important, but the thing is that some people manage to learn to relax even during their business time or even a war, if you will.

I have not been to war myself but I know few people who fought in WW2 (Russian soldiers, now very old), and never had any vacation. All their life during this 5 years of war they spent on the forefront, in battles. It doesn't mean of course that they had bullets flying 24/7 around them, and they of course had their quiet hours of contemplation I believe, although may be not as much as we do nowadays. So maybe the point is to learn to relax in the midst of a battle?

I personally do not believe that there is such thing as work-life balance. I believe if you do a job that you are passionate about, it is your life already. Why would you want to take a vacation from something which constitutes the essence of your life?..

But I totally agree that only pursuit of money for the sake of money is silly
and boring, unless you do it as something that inspires you and add some spice and your personality magic to it.

      Cheers,
      George

Wow! To each his own, but if that is how you truly feel I'm going to assume that you are quite young and have much to learn about life.

There is nothing wring with work being the most important thing in your life, if that is what you choose for yourself, but I think that you are missing out on life's multitude of things to enjoy and love, along with your work.

All that matters is that you are happy. I would never tell anyone how to live their life, but I would encourage them to sample the bounty of experiences that life offers.

Ever heard of. "Too much of a good thing?"

        You only live once.

        Cheers. - Frank

I see what you mean Frank. Its simply that in my case I don't see work as an extra layer over real life. I enjoy what I do and I am getting much more tired when I don't do what I love. I hope you got my point too.
          cheers,
          enjoy your day!

Nice that you found the work you love. I got that too, but I specifically make Sunday as a rest day myself. Oddly enough... when I'm trying NOT to do anything work related (marketing, etc.) and just try to relax by reading a nice book, that's when I get most of my ideas for my next article.

Taking a nice break helps me with creativity, so I believe I'm similar to you. In my case, the breaks ARE part of the work.
