"You don't know what you don't know"

Someone said that to me recently and it got me thinking.

I know that I don't know how to be an astronaut, and I don't know how to perform brain surgery, so I avoid those areas as a choice of career.

But if you remove knowing what you don't know and just know what you do know, then doesn't that open up a world of possibility?

Can't someone who doesn't know what they don't know, do anything that they set their mind to? It's when we focus on what we know we don't know that we put obstacles in our way, focus on all the reasons we can't do something and give up completely.

When you're already on your journey and you come across something that you don't know, you just figure it out. If you knew you didn't know it that would have been a reason not to start in the first place.

I feel quite satisfied that by not knowing what I don't know can lead me anywhere!

    a few years ago i was certain like 90 percent of the other people who paid attention ..that oil would stay over 100 dollars a barrel and just get more expensive as time went on ...it's now 50 dollars a barrel ..

    a few years ago self driving cars where decades away ..now in the next 5-10 years there will be production models ..

    solar power ..there are already solar power plants in the middle east that produce electricity for less than using gas ..

    in ten years there may be solar roofing that produce all the power a home need cheeper than the grid ..


    tricorder from star track have been developed in ten years they may be integrated in you cell phone ..

    because there is so much change going on so many new things being developed.. so much getting disrupted.. it is beyond our ability to predict to far int the future ..

    you think money in the bank is safe..but negative interest rates are possible and the big central bankers think savers are idiots who endanger the economy ..and if the bank runs into trouble..the bank can do a bail in and take money from depositors accounts ..

    heck did you even know what brexit was three weeks ago.. now it is some huge world changing event ..

    you don't know what you don't know.. there are 1000 other thing i can list..and all cause changes that can't be known until after they happen ..

      On that note Odahh, we're often better off not knowing what we don't know.
      Imagine how worried you'd have been if you did know that Brexit might be a very real possibility for the near future (especially if you're a Brit!)
      As it is, it just happened. No wasted time here worrying about it in the lead-up, because I didn't know. More importantly, I didn't know that I didn't know.
