True success is realizing that you have everything you need to live securely and comfortably and can finally end the pursuit to acquire more, unless you are either insecure and need to show-off what you accumulate, or you are just plain greedy.

Really depends on your definition of success.

Mine is simple. As long as I work on my goals on a daily basis. I'm successful.

Success is defined as:

the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
synonyms: favourable outcome, successfulness, favourable result, successful outcome, positive result, victory, triumph

With this in mind, when do I think I have been successful?

In business, I think I am successful when my customer is happy, the project is complete and everything has run to plan and all elements are complete in a fashion that is beyond my client's expectations. That is the definition of success. Furthermore, when a client returns to get more work done or if they recommend me to their colleagues, this also means the work has been a success.

Success is different to everyone, some may place success on finances and their riches, other people may place it on awards and accolades while others may put it down to the company their keep and their position within a company or the client's they attract. It is all so personal.

In short, if both my client and I are 100% happy with the work that has been done and it has exceeded both of our expectations, then this is a great success.

I really like this point. A true success is supposed to be a win-win in both your private and professional life. If you can make it happen for you and people around you to be happy, then you're truly successful. Cheers.

I've thought about this a lot. And the best definition I have found is this from Bob Dylan:

"A man [or woman] is a success if they get up in the morning, and get to bed at night, and in between they do what they want to do."

And, that can mean anything from Nursing sick people, to making a Million Dollars, to teaching disabled children.

Ultimately I think "Character Development" is a good measure of one's "success."

Life is a journey and if you keep improving (and evolving) at every point then you're successful.

Not only does this increase your self-esteem (and happiness) it also equips you with the knowledge and tools to help other people.
