When I first started on the freelance sites I looked for jobs and projects and bid on heaps and heaps of them, once i got one or two plus feedback from employers I started to get more jobs on there. Once you start it is a challenge, however if you offer a good pitch and also share some examples it can be a good idea. While when I first started out my rates were lower, I raised them eventually to be more in line with my hourly rate. It's a challenge at first, however once you get a name for yourself and get some feedback it can be really effective. Thanks, Corinne

Make sure that you profile is 100% ready and also you can bid on smaller jobs intended for beginners. That way you will have more chances to get a job. Also, if you have some projects in the field you are looking for a job you can upload those on upwork or send them when you bid for a job. Also, it is very important to ask for smaller amounts of money, in order to get some jobs and some feedback so you can get more jobs in the future. I am not satisfied with the new changes in upwork. On the commission you get for the job you have to pay 20% fee and also to be a rising star you should pay upwork ten or more dollars a month. I do not think that upwork will be the page to find jobs that it was in the past. there are a lot of jobs for websites on craigslist. You can try you luck there.

I got my first graphic-design job on UpWork (then oDesk), by doing the work first, writing "demo" across it, and sending that with my application. That takes some work initially, but what you need to start is good feedback, even if you don't get paid anything to get it.

Another approach . . . when looking for data-entry workers, I had some do 5 hours work for one cent. They did this because they knew that they needed good feedback first, before they were likely to get paid jobs. So you could literally do that . . . find some easy data-entry jobs, bid one cent, explain that you need to get some positive feedback so you can get paid work, and do some jobs. Once you've got enough positive feedback, then you'll be much more likely to get paid work.

Hi, the most practical advice I can give you is to upgrade or rewrite your profile description. Here is how I want you to begin your profile description:
1). Start with a question - a long one that really addresses your potential client's requirements.
2). Start with a quotation. A less familiar quotation that goes along with your later description. It can be any intriguing line that describes your passion or expertise.
3). Start with a story - probably the best option. Clients like stories because it helps them form a connection with their future hire. Story can be anything from how one night you realized what your passion is or how your dad used to snub you from following your instincts but you still did and here you are. Be creative and think out of the box.

    Thanks

That's just because your proposal is not that attractive. Think why a client would hire you with no reviews and there are tons of freelancers that have lot of positive reviews.
So you would have to be unique to get a job. Your proposal must have something that makes them think about you.
