What is instincts/intuition?

Instincts is the same as intuition, gut feeling or sixth sense. Intuition is knowing something without the ability to explain. This mysterious gut feeling often turns out to be right. Our sixth sense comes from our subconscious mind. It is the kind of feeling or thought that you get first when something happens. It is easily forgettable if not paid attention to (depending on the situation).

Why do you need instincts/Intuition?

You need your intuition for the following reasons:

1. When you are in danger.
2. When you feel like there is something that is off or it is not right. (This mostly happens when you feel like there is something off about someone that you have put your trust in to doing something).
3. When making important decisions about your life (Like your career choice).
4. When everything in your life is Ok and running smoothly.
5. When you are doing something you are passionate about like drawing, playing a piano or guitar.

Reasons Why you may find yourself not Listening to your Intuition.
1. How you were brought up
2. Fear
3. Failure

How Should You follow your instincts/intuition?
1. Trusting Yourself
2. Asking yourself a set of any questions.
3. Working on your nonverbal thought and expression.
4. Listening to your gut.
5. Stop second guessing yourself.

When should you listen to your intuition?
1. When you feel something is off.
2. When making decisions.
3. When everything is Ok.
4. Doing something you like.

Some people have stronger instincts than others. Always trust your gut feeling in every situation.

yeah but you have to differentiate between intuition and pre-proposition

some people [or almost everyone] has a canned opinion about everything

now when challenged, which one pops first to mind?

    intuition or pre-text?

See, that's why you have to set your own mind free, first

otherwise you will never have, or trust your own intuition

Martha Beck also has a good advice on how to train ourselves to listen to our intuition. She says to remember a positive experience or person who has proven to be good in our lives and recall the feelings/sensations we had when we realized we were doing the right thing. Do the same with a negative experience or person. What feelings/sensations did you have when you realized that this experience or situation was wrong for us.

Part of it is knowing ourselves and our unique responses. I know while others have a positive gut instinct about a new project with good income opportunities and generally feel good about them; I myself have a negative gut feel about them as if I want to reject them, and I start rationalizing why I shouldn't take the project. Since this has happened to me a lot of times over years, I now trust that my negative feelings for the project means it's actually good! So part of learning to trust my own instincts is reviewing my past situations and my emotional/instinctual response to them.

I remember reading that "Intuition" is actually our subconscious which takes and processes FAR more data than what our conscious mind can. It also has access to most, if not ALL of our past memories and experiences as well.

Combine those factors and the subconscious makes calculations that lead to the best possible outcome. It then shows it to you through "instinct" or your "gut feel."

    "Intuition" is actually our subconscious"

not a bad explanation, i think it goes further than that,
it also gets information from the subconsciousness
of the 'universal mind' of all humanity. And even tapping
into a layer of 'intelligent mind' - that is not human.

why so? Humanity is in a time-continium vortex and does
not really know the future, but if you for example today
state an 'intuitive hunch' as fact, and it actually happens
tomorrow - then where did you get it from?

You did cross the borders and limitation of the human
condition, and got something from a source that is not
limited by or ruled by that limitation.

Of course people are so self-centered that when it happens
they claim it as their own, but that is simply an ego-centric
over-estimation of our own capabilities. Basically they havent
even begun to understand anything yet. The ego is still the
center of their universe, and all perception is veiled.

  • I found that without a master, you'll helplessly scour for people 2 trust. But with a master, you'll redefine your purpose in life and see it through his eyes.

    Good stuff.

With meditation, you can develop super instincts and your psyche will lead you.

By doing Yoga you can develop strong Instincts. Se the point is you have to control your mind, have to develop how to focus on things.

Yes, yoga as well as meditation helps to develop intuition and strong instincts.

Meditation helped me the most in this case. After 1 month of meditating regularly I could feel that making decisions became much more easy for me (before I had to think carefully about all pros and cons before I took some action and after that I was almost always regretting my choice).

I have always found going with your first thought is usually the best way to go, that is your gut or intuition telling you were to go. As long as you are constantly developing yourself your first thought is usually the right one.

    No guts, no glory.

God gave us instinct to decide and to judge.

  • On using your 'gut' on deciding important decisions on you life, I want to add that our gut instincts may be more geared towards short-term benefits (gut feel to quit a job, get married). So don't skip the analytical and investigate the potential positive and negative ramifications of your decision months, or a couple of years from now.

It's also good to reflect on your decision-making ability and reflect on what went wrong with past decisions. Be aware of your weaknesses and predisposition when listening to your gut instinct.
