As a freelancer what's the best balance of time?

Hello Warrior Forum,

My question, "As a freelancer what’s the best balance of time?" is not pointed towards finding a work/life balance, it's more about finding a balance between your workday. How much time is spent on self-promotion, finding new projects to have 'on deck', and actually working on deliverables for clients?

I think the initial question really comes more into play when a freelancer is not super busy. I feel like it's easy to get sidetracked with 'acting productive' while looking for new jobs/employers. On the other hand, obviously if you're fully booked with projects to work on, then the answer to the question is 100% work, 0% self-promotion, 0% new project search... or is it?

Is there a solution to the workday balance equation, or is it simply too different between individuals?

Let me know your thoughts. Please. I'd love to hear any and all your best tips, things to do/never do, and your relatable experiences. I'm a sponge for new ideas, tips, etc.

Cheers,

Pete

Like you said, it depends on the current projects you have. There are times when you find yourself with a lot of free time, and there are times when you have almost no time for sleep.

As a freelancer, I always say that the more projects that present themselves, the better. We have to seize opportunities that come to us, so that we can prepare for the days when there are too few projects. You also have to bear in mind that should you want to take a vacation, we do not have paid leaves like those working for companies.

I try to find as much free time as I can to build on my portfolio and find new clients. I allot about a couple of hours a week to do this. However, when I have a client, I make sure to give them quality time (especially if these are good clients I want to keep) to give them the right reasons to hire me again.

If I'm working alone from my freelance account then I don't take more than 3 projects per week which is also kind of hard to manage. But if I have my partner involved with me then I divide my work balance in such a way that one person at least bids on the projects continuously to get the desired number of projects for one month and the other person focuses on the completion of those projects. Other than that it's easy said than done because sometimes you end up taking more projects which you can actually handle because of the money involved resulting in problems with management of time for other things in life

Don't overwork and only accept workload which you can easily handle. Sometimes we flood ourselves with way too many projects for the money and end up disturbing our sleep and family time. Therefore, take projects for which you can deliver 100% . When your clients are happy money will come itself
