Do you honestly LOVE what you do every day?

Ive had a bit of a trying month, its been a bit of a stretch with clients been tardy with payments, project briefs dramatically changing, difficult new clients who have rubbed me the wrong way, and very short time frames for people that want things yesterday.

Dont get me wrong I honestly love what I am doing but sometimes it is a real turd burger of one annoying thing after the other.

The freedom
The flexibility
The variety of projects
New things every day
The location I get to work in

Everything is usually pretty awesome, I just find that a few days out of every month I seem to have a bombardment of rather crap things that comes my way.

Maybe its IMs way of keeping me on my toes.

Maybe its a gentle reminder to sharpen my skills.

Or it could just be working for yourself and everything that goes with it.

On those few days a month I would love to be on an island sipping cocktails.

Cheers to sipping Pina Coladas and not wading through huge amounts of work that I havent been able to get to yet.

Tell me you have these days too

I can definitely relate to what you are saying. It just takes some patience sometimes to deal with the amount of problems that come our way every day. I just tend to focus on the reward at the end of the day, that helps me deal with the now so I can have a better performance in what I'm doing.

Yes, I agree with you. Usually when I have a challenging day I do need to remind myself how lucky I have it.

When I used to work for someone else in the corporate world there were still challenges, and I have to remember this. I probably didn't take as many of them home with me though, I would just leave them at my workplace and worry about them the next day.

I find that every few weeks I have a challenging client or something that blows up that I need to manage and I realise that only I can fix it and it can be a little frustrating. For the most part I can't believe the luck that I am doing this, it's just those days that we all have that I don't love IM as much.

I think its human nature of getting bored of something overdone, you cannot always be in love with what you do everyday until and unless that is your passion. And if people are following their passion everyday then they will definitely love their work, life etc, but that is rare. Now a days people live to get money, luxurious life.. etc, they don't want to work because they "love", they work because they "want".

I completely agree that IM is something that can keep you on toes for a pretty long period of time.People say that it gives you freedom and stuff. Yes it does to some extent but the the thing is that you become responsible and vigilante when you come to realize that's the only way through which you could pay your bills.

Who doesn't like sipping Pina coladas on a sandy beach!! The thing for me is that once I have achieved my yearly target I don't care if my email is flooded with project offers. I just take some time off and enjoy what life has to offer. It sounds pretty strange but that's the way I function.

    Cheers

      Really, interesting.

I always seem to increase my targets when I reach them.

I had a target to reach $X thousand each month, I met it within a few months and then I thought, how can I improve this.

While I am happy that I have reached my target, I am driven to work and I like what I am doing so I usually take on more and more to challenge myself.

In a way I hope to be able to have a better turn off switch like what you seem to have, that would probably give me more balance in the long run.

Don't let those trying times get you down too much. After all, you can't appreciate the good times without the bad ones. Though, I definitely feel your pain on clients taking their time to pay you! We have better things to do than chase down unpaid invoices

I have one dude and it is 76 days since his payment was due. i am so tired of chasing him, it is getting ridiculous and I feel like an idiot having to do it all the time.

Really takes the wind out of my sails.

David Guetta or it was someone else saying have so much love to give, lol. As a freelancer, I'm all about freedom and my love for writing. Now, when I find someone to pay for it, this is called a harmony of love, lol. Cheers!

In contrast, imagine Not working for yourself and doing something that you truly don't love. That negative feeling will quickly allow you to realize that the difficulties you face on occasion within your self created work are a true blessing to have. The grass is Not always greener on the other side. Give total gratitude for what you have and it will get even greater.
