We've all been in a situation or period when things aren't going as you'd like them. You have to stay on track... need to stay on track...even though it seems much easier to hop off.

What do you do to stay on target when the going gets tough?

I take a look at the things that I've done and try to see where did I go wrong. I make some evaluations and think of possible solutions. I always believe that a negative situation should be given an importance to make myself better and do good on the future endeavors.

Reframe, redefine. Act first, plan later.

I try to take inspiration from what I've already succeeded in doing and use that momentum to get back up and take action again.

I pace, I cuss, I walk the dogs....then I get back to work. When you support yourself, giving up is not an option:p

  • Giving up IS an option you should not consider. Try to analyze, think hard and then execute.

Not what I do but an experience I'd like to share with you:

Watched a very inspiring programme on TV the toher day, where this rich guy, born on a rough council estate, but had made it good, setting up caravan sites and amusement arcades, now lives on a 17 acres estate with a massive mansion and have £40 millions in the bank. He sponsored a lovely family, who were bringing up 3 lovely kids, but were still living on a very rough council estate in London and were just beset with debt, through no fault of their own.

He helped them avoid eviction and then talked to them about their dreams. Helped the husband of the poor family get a new job. And now there on their way to moving out of London and into the country side.

Some would say, it didn't cost him much, in fact some did. My view would be, he didn't have to do it, and it still cost him tens of thousands of pounds and he made a real difference.

That's why I always sign off all my emails and newsletters with the phrase, "May your success be more than you can hold!". I want people to have so much success, they are faced with the need to give it away in time, thought, practice, money, empathy.....but to invest in other people.

Just to play devil's advocate here

Seth Godin has a book called "The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick)". Like all his books - it makes you think.

    Steve

    From the amazon description:

The old saying is wrong-winners do quit, and quitters do win.

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point-really hard, and not much fun at all.

And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip-a temporary setback that will get better if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

According to bestselling author Seth Godin, what really sets superstars apart from everyone else is the ability to escape dead ends quickly, while staying focused and motivated when it really counts.

Winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt-until they commit to beating the right Dip for the right reasons. In fact, winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the barrier, the bigger the reward for getting past it. If you can become number one in your niche, you'll get more than your fair share of profits, glory, and long-term security.

Losers, on the other hand, fall into two basic traps. Either they fail to stick out the Dip-they get to the moment of truth and then give up-or they never even find the right Dip to conquer.

We don't have control on the things that are happening. For me, what I do if this happens, I'll just stop for a while, think, and then back to realizations, and never do give-up.
