The Best Adjustment To Your Thinking You Ever Made?

I probably would have to give a shout out to Anthony Robbins.

In one of his books he gave several tips that stood out that I implement to this day.

One had something to do with putting negative thoughts into your fist and then turning all your positive thoughts and accomplishments into a golden light liquid and pouring them inside your fist.

There was a negative person in my fist that I was losing sleep over and after that exercise I never gave her another thought to this day.

Another tip he gave was to take notes of your physical presence when you are feeling on top of the world.

Take note of how you are breathing, standing/posture your facial expression, how you walk etc.

Then when you are feeling down put your self into that physical state and you just can not feel down anymore!

You would think we would be teaching kids how the brain works and how it can be hacked at a young age.

Have you made an adjustment in your thinking that really had big impact?

Hello, this is kind of a fun topic.

As I sat here pondering possible answers, I thought to myself, "Best in what way?" - because there are numerous "yardsticks" if you will to measure "best".

So let's talk in the realm of business success. The best understandings I have had to do with abundance.

Specifically with surrendering the scarcity/myopic worldview for one that is more open-minded and filled with abundance.

You see, people are like a monkey and scarcity thinking is like a cage with a bunch of bananas on the other side of the bars. Just barely out of reach.

They strain and strain at the bars and reach as far as they can through the gap in the bars, practically dislocating their shoulder in the process of trying to get a banana.

They are fixated on it like it is the only banana in the world.

What the monkey doesn't know is that the door of the cage is open the whole time directly behind him or her, and that they are in the midst of an abundant forest practically overflowing with bananas.

So all the monkey has to do is take its eyes off of the bananas for two seconds and survey its situation very carefully to find the best and easiest way to get the bananas.

I'll explain an example. Think about the advise to make an offer that your customer can't refuse. Like a double-your-money-back guarantee. Well, everyone is scared to do one, because "what if?"

"What if?" what? What if you make a lot of sales and have to pay a couple guarantees back? Oh no...

Here's the thing about that: your customers are also scared of risk. If one of you has to take on the risk, let it be you so that your customers can make yes decisions more easily.

Don't shoot yourself in the foot by making them take all of the risk. The thought is like, "well, anybody can make a sale with an irresistible offer..." Like you are above that.

But then so why not do that? If anyone can do it, then why not make it easy on yourself and put all of the cards in your pocket? Stack the deck! Why not? The door of the cage is already open.

In fact, once you are outside of the cage of your scarcity thinking, the whole world is filled with bananas.

We live in a forest where every tree has bananas coming off of it, free for the taking. All you have to learn to do is shake a tree and some bananas fall off of it.

People are starving in the midst of abundance and that's sad because they are trapped by their own thinking.

The monkey who can actually reach a banana through the bars of scarcity and get one by sheer force is now really a "goner" because then they feel that they've learned how to get bananas by sheer force.

They will struggle for years trying to replicate their first success while the cage door quietly stays wide open behind them the whole time.

Another funny thing to see are people hording bananas and protecting those bananas like they are the only bananas in the world. There was a man on the news who had $50,000,000 and lost $10,000,000 in a bad deal.

The man was literally having a full-on panic attack. I'm sure that somewhere in his mind he was convinced that he literally could not survive on this planet with only $40,000,000!

The single most profitable change to my thinking came when I was in my twenties and stopped reading motivational books, visualizing success, and repeating aphorisms...and started concentrating on the mechanics of how to sell and how to market.

I stopped thinking about my own motivation and started thinking about what motivated people to buy....meaning studying marketing.

The motivation of paying my rent and credit card bills was enough motivation for me. And visualizing myself losing my possessions and my relationships...because I had no ambition or money...was pretty motivational as well.

Ask any wealthy person how they got that way....and they won't tell you they read their goals twice a day. They'll tell you that they went to work, and learned how to make money.

Ever read a motivational book of aphorisms? The author didn't wish it into existence..or read aphorisms until it was published...or even kept a diary of their feelings. They went to work writing a book. And when they were done doing the work, there it was. Then they marketed and promoted the book. All work....all taking action.

Damn Claude you got lessons coming out your lessons.

Like if you love motivational quotes create a product/daily service with them. Huge market out there.

And I knew what aphorisms was that's why I looked it up just to make sure.

there have been so many adjustments in the last four years ..the biggest was fireing the huge chorus of self criticism..and negative self talk ..that took a while ..

the easiest to explain would be a refusal to call my high functioning autism or bi polar disorder disabilities ..they are condition i need to work around and learn to harness ..which to some extent i have .. now to find my creative channel

    Wow, interesting question.

Hard to pick just one thing. But I'd have to say, accepting that life doesn't give you what you deserve. It gives you what you earn and what you negotiate.

    this is a cool topic,

As I am getting into the mindstate of making online money, I look at it like waiting for a flower to grow, it takes nurturing and effort and Patience, but at the end, I have something amazing that no one else has

One of the most effective adjustments to my thinking was to start treating people like neighborhoods. There are some neighborhoods we avoid and there are some people we should avoid as well. This also includes family. We spend so much time and effort researching and deciding where we'll live. It makes sense to do the same with the people we choose to have in our lives. I've learned to stop looking for "the good" in people when faced with a "guarantee of bad" floating all around. It's irrelevant if there's some good in people when all the bad is tearing you down. Toxic people bring their toxicity into our lives. It negatively affects us and those most important to us.

Having a "people are like neighborhoods" outlook and acting on it hasn't been all roses and sugar plum experiences. I'm learning that as I improve, I'm becoming a different person. Other people who assume I'm the same get upset and downright mean when they realize I've changed. However, having this outlook has clarified a lot of situations and strengthened my resolve to accomplish my goals. It has helped me focus more effectively on my priorities and those I love. Getting rid of toxic relationships has helped me create more value for myself and those most important to me.

    Thanks for the interesting thread.

A few years ago I went on a negativity fast just to see if it would make any difference to anything. It was a lot harder than you would imagine.

At the end of the period it was interesting to note how my general outlook to various things had changed (in such a short period of time). I've maintained that approach since then and never knowingly entertain negative thoughts about anything.

Not easy however it can be done when you build up your skill gradually.
