Motivation and Discouragement

How does everyone stay motivated during times when you've become discouraged? My online ventures have not been as fruitful as I had hoped and I'm slowly losing interest, but I know deep down that I have to keep at it if I am to succeed. I used to dedicate an hour per day to IM but since I haven't been reaping any benefits of those efforts, my work ethic is going down the drain. Any tips to keep me on track? Thanks in advance.

    Have you made any investment?

If you have, tell yourself that you are going to get back your investment and make that your short term goal. It works like wonder and before you know it, you are on your way to your mid term goal.

Having a constructed plan works much better than just doing everything blindly. Just sharing my thoughts on this since I have been through that discouraging stage as well.

    All the best!

      Hi ItsDubC,

I have a suggestion, but it's a more risky method. My suggestion is to burn your ship. That means cutting all your lifeline such as quitting your job, announce to the world you're going to make a million dollars online, invest more of your own money into your venture, etc. Leave yourself no choice but to stick to it till you succeed.

I was a real estate agent making a decent living but I've moved on to working full-time online a few months ago after working online part-time for about a year. I'm still not making enough to cover my living expenses yet but I've decided to quit real estate and just focus on IM since that's what I really want to do.

Although I could easily go back to selling properties if I really fail at IM, I'd have to pretty much start all over again. This is how I burn my ship. Like I mentioned, this is a more risky method and may not be for everyone. But this is an option you may want to consider.

      Cheers~

      Mark

All some good tips here that sound like they've come from experience. I have invested quite a bit of money so far, and I guess that's why it's so discouraging to not see much in return.

I think I do need to go back to having a plan and sticking w/ it. I once forced myself to write one article per day on eHow for a month and those efforts have been very fruitful up to this day. I'm considering returning to that route since it seems that the results are very real compared to what I've been doing lately. I've really only been doing this whole IM thing for 2-3 months and I think I may have just burnt myself out from information overload and the expectancy that I'd be able to see results after this time. Right now I'm in the mindset that I need to take a break, re-evaluate my approach, and come up with a realistic plan to follow.

Choose one thing that you are going to work on, and work on it every day. If you are going to work on generating income on eHow, then write at least one article there every day. If you are going to focus on building your own site, then do something on that every day--write an article, get some links, find a product to review/promote, etc.

Can you make more time to work on IM? One hour a day can get you going and keep you going, but if you can squeeze in a few more hours over a weekend or one night a week, you can make progress even faster.

    Good luck!
