Passion is THE key to making sales

In the year that I graduated from university, I had a dream of starting my own business. At the time, I was doing private tutoring for a handful of students who were preparing for their upcoming final exams. I envisioned myself starting my own private tuition centre, hiring and training tutors, getting a horde of paying students to sign up and then sitting back and getting rich.

One problem though, I didn't know how to sell. And it seemed as though every business book that I read was saying to me that if you want to run a business, you need to know how to sell! Now, whenever I want to learn something, the first thing I'll think of is to go out and find someone who is willing to pay me to learn it. And that's exactly what I did. I dusted off my resume, rewrote it to appeal to someone looking for a sales representative, and sent it off to the first 3 job advertisements I found on the internet.

It was to my surprise when a few days later, one of the companies called me back and asked me to come in for an interview. Apparently, in spite of my zero sales experience and knowledge, they were intrigued that an engineering graduate from one of the top local universities had decided to apply for an entry level sales position which involved going door to door selling telecommunications plans.

I explained my reasons, they invited me back to try out the position, and before I knew it, I was walking around strange neighbourhoods pitching my product to many weird and wonderful people each day. I stayed with them for a grand total of three months, and left when the founder and owner of the company passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident.

Right from the start, I learnt that the key ingredient to making sales is passion. People love passionate people. And people buy from passionate people, because they are attracted to their energy. They catch the passion that passionate people have for whatever it is they are passionate about. That's just how it works. Passion is like perfume - once you spray it, if you spray enough of it, it permeates the whole room.

Yes, I agree that it is passion that is a big factor to making & closing sales. Take me for example, I used to envisage that I was successful in what I did, I ate success, slept success, dreamed success, oozed success and it what this ora of believing in myself that was the main contributing factor to me achieving my success.

You could say that it was my passion to succeed that brought the success I desired! Sort of reverse irony isn't it!

It's amazing isn't it. There's a law of attraction at work there, you get what you focus on. Small wonder that the optimists and pessimists of this world both experience self fulfilling prophecies. Passion is essential to success.

When i just started IM, i was not passionate about it. But i learned that if you persist in doing something. Learn from your failures and take action consistently. At some point you will become good at it.

Once you become good at it, it will become fun to do. And once it becomes fun, you will become passionate about it

    Cheers,

Indeed, passion is contagious. Coupled with honesty and sincerity it can be a killer force!

You have to be passionate about whatever you do otherwise it will be reflected in your results. People are also very astute as to whether or not you're passionate about something.

How many times have you been to a store and been served by someone who is as miserable as sin and gives the overwhelming impression that they clearly don't want to be there? On the other hand, how do you feel when you go to a store and are served by someone who has a warm, friendly smile, is genuinely helpful without giving you the hard sell, engages you in conversation and appears to be interested in you as a person? I know which of the two makes the biggest impression on me and, in turn, which of the two stores I'm likely to go back to and purchase from.

Passion also helps you to be driven, thus helping you to remain focused, determined and consistent in pushing forwards
