How Much Are You Worth?

This is Wealth Motivation Tip #2
A while back I posted a video entitled,' How Much Are You Worth?' I got a lot of great feedback and it got me to thinking... Just how do people measure their value? Is it done on a monetary scale? Maybe they base it on how popular they are in their social network on and offline. But truly, what is really considered value when it comes to a human being?

Now I learned long ago about a scale system that can sort of measure one's self, giving a sort of self-estimate. First make a list of yourself in different areas of your life. This is done because you are entirely different things to different people. My list goes a little something like this for example.
.Father
.Brother
.Husband
.Business Man
.Uncle
.Friend
And so on...

Now after you make this list, rate each one on a scale of 1 to 10, and be honest. Now after you have rated yourself in each one of these areas in your life, rate yourself as a person using the same rating system. You may be asking yourself by now, what's the point? The point is that you can never be a 10 in any of those other areas in your life until you become a 10 as a person.

Becoming a 10 as a person is a formula for success. Work on you and how you see yourself and you will begin to excel as a business person, father, friend or whatever. Once this system of self-analysis was revealed to me it literally changed how I viewed myself and showed me areas of my life that I need to work on.

Now don't get me wrong, we will always be a work in progress as a human race, but it kind of helps to know where to focus, especially when that focus helps you to improve in every area of your life. So if you want to be a better entrepreneur, start with becoming a better person. Your clients will love you for it and your pockets will thank you.

Its a good thought that our worth as a friend, a father, or a mentor adds to the value of our products or services. Nice post.

"The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection."

A perfect 10? I would ignore all of the labels above, honestly.

Love the replies guys especially the money ones. The question is a self worth question. While it is right that no one will ever achieve perfection there are some people out there who will always value us more than we value ourselves. For instance, my daughter thinks I'm Da Bomb! But I will always wish I could do more for her when in reality, having family friends and loved ones look up to us knowing that they can depend on us is a major accomplishment.
Me myself... probably about a buck fifty.

Love the tongue in cheek answers.

I agree with Acrasial. There is a danger in measuring your self worth according to labels and scales. Does it mean you are worth less as a human being if you score 2 or 3 in certain areas?

You are a worthy human for the mere reason that you exist. Your worthiness should not be attached to any labels.

If you use it as a gauge to constantly improve yourself, I guess you can use whatever works for you. I agree we should always try to improve and grow. The trick to using the scales is not have definite numbers. Or to have no attachment to the numbers whatsoever, except as a comparison to be used relatively.

In other words, a 10 does not mean success. A 1 does not mean failure or a lack. It is only a number that signals you need to bring more attention to this area of your life (This is probably what you mean, in the first place).

The key to self development is to improve constantly, making daily incremental changes, and to strive to do things better than yesterday and do even better tomorrow. But also to not see yourself as lacking or not up to standard when you only score 3 - 4 in some/all areas.

Begin in mind that you are already perfect as you are. Then ask: What can I do to be even better?

            Cheers.

Women are definitely included in the list. There cannot be a whole without both men and women.
