"Ofcourse it's a real job !!"

Hey warriors,

Those who've been faced with a dilemma similar to mine would have realised by now what i'm about to talk about.
I've been working on the internet for about 2 years now. I've made my bones, done the homework and after a long time, i've finnally come to that stage where i can actually call myself successful.

I'm in the process of starting my own partnership firm with 2 other excellent people, i've got great products lined up for 2010, one of which might even go on to become the biggest launch of the year!
And i'm 19, and doing a B.Tech in computer sciences and engineering while i'm at it, and scoring rather well !

And after all that, my parents always turn up to me and ask me if what i'm doing is a real job and if it has a future!

I've explained it all to them a LOT of times, but they don't seem to have heard it at all.

I mean, i do realise that they're my parents and if they're asking me something like this, it's most definitely out of concern.

But am i too wrong in feeling a little insulted and irritated here ?

I'm in your boat as well. I used to try and justify exactly what I did to my family and they would still say the same thing...get a real job. Once I actually showed them what I did and the potential, things changed. I think people automatically assume you are doing porn or scamming if you make money online.

    oh well

I also tried several times to explain but they just do not understand, so I gave up.
All the best to you guys in this year

Just start showing them your affiliate checks or let them know each time you make a sale. I started doing this with my family and now instead of trying to find me a job, they are asking me how many sales I made that day

    Haha

yeah its soo weird that for one reason or other, people look down on people who arent doing the whole 9-5 grind even if they are making money. Should be the other way around, dont ya think?

It's so simple. Give them something they can relate to. Show them the money you are making and any comments such as testimonials you are getting.

I am 53 and still have it coming from my parents. My dad still doesn't understand fax machines, yet he does understand a bank statement - can't argue with them.

Maybe you should keep your parents in the loop better would help? If you're not saying anything until they ask, perhaps just casually saying something like, "My online business is going great." would be enough to ease their concern.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
