Hey Warriors,

I'm currently working in a job that I've grown to hate. I extract no self-worth or confidence from my time there, and I'm sick to my stomach every morning when I think about the day ahead.

My personality/dreams/goals just don't mesh with what I'm doing right now. Oh, and pulling in less than McDonald's money while working overtime on salary isn't helping.

Realizing my financial shortcomings, I launched a small web design company three months ago...developing Joomla sites for local businesses.

In the first few months I've made five sales, and built some really great connections.

I want to dedicate a full day of work, every day, to building this business. I'm passionate about it.

Is it a legitimate possibility that I could pull the plug on my career right now to do this business full time? How would I make it financially though the first year, because right now I'm living paycheque to paycheque.

Any adivce would be great. I'm tired of ranting to my gf/family. Nobody likes a whiner, but hopefully you guys can relate/help.

Right, so here's what I'd do...

Build a plan to transition jobs....look at the overall picture, how much time your putting in compared to how much money your making for each income...then slowly look at ways to build your new company further...look at ways to expand and just keep finding more business and more ideas for that business...

The number one key is expansion and outsourcing...once you get enough money start paying people to do things for you so you can shift your focus on making more money...keep growing, keep expanding and keep outsourcing....look at you old job's salary and your new one....once they average the same, make the leap....at this point you'll have a bunch!! of extra time and you'll have plenty of money and time in your life....just be patient and do what you feel is right in the end...and this is crucial...if you find yourself wanting to take a leap before it's "logical" then do it. Make the leap...things will turn out better in the long run...our instincts are much more powerful than our logic.

And if it's possible...start working less to provide more time with your business. Talking directly to your boss does wonders

Of course there is a legitimate possibility you could do this business full time!! The question is, what are you prepared to do to make it work???? If you are already living paycheck to paycheck then you probably have a pretty good idea about the amount of income you need to pull in to stay afloat.

You have already made 5 sales which is great. How many sales would you need to make per week to keep that income consistent. Then, how many additional sales do you WANT to make to increase your income.

You also probably should consider looking at this from a few different angles. For example, Joomla is a good platform because you can actually coach/teach your clients how to update and manage their own website. This is HUGE for small business owners. You are immediately saving them programming/web design costs.

Since this is the case, can you put a mentoring/coaching system in place for them so that you can bill them on a monthly basis. I'm sure they can use your guidance on website upkeep once you have delivered it to them. If you have a coaching service in place, can you reduce your initial fee to them in exchange for having them enter your continuity program. Now, you do not have to go looking for brand new deals every month. You will simply be adding new customers into an existing program you are running.

I recommend this not as theory but as something that works and works very well. I am doing something very similar with one of my business and the clients love it. It reduces up front cost to the customer and it gives me ongoing revenue. Makes for a great combination!

Don't quit your day job until you are making the monthly income necessary to cover your overheads. Running a business full time is mentally tough. At time you don't know where your next dollar is coming from, other times you strike oil.

If you are living month to month right now keep pushing for more web deals until you can make the transition into a full time thing.

We all aspire to working full time, independently, at a home based business. You clearly have stumbled upon a revenue source that offers potential. But, until you expand on that, what you have is an interesting and rewarding part time income. Don't quit that Day Job until you have secured enough (repeat) business to replace that day job income.

But, let's be clear: You're doing great. Now you simply have to expand on that base. Meanwhile, don't neglect your own version of IM. In the end, that's your future in this on-line world.

    Hang in there,

    Phil

keep going after your dream and don't let anyone tell you keep your job and be happy. If you have no money and time now, invest the time whenever you have extra time and constantly listen to and read from others who are doing what you want to be doing. Even if you have a break or lunch you can read a chapter, listen to an audio, set up a game plan. If you're boss isn't reading this...

anytime you have downtime at work, learn and then try to apply it right away.
