What My Mother Told Me

When I was about to leave our family life in order to go and start life as a young man, my mother looked into my eyes and said to me,

"My boy, the sky is so big that it can accommodate every star. Don't compete for space with anyone; don't imitate anyone. Be content with what you have at any time because life is in phases and men are in sizes. If you abide by this principle, you will never fail."

Recently, my mum celebrated her birthday and I was right there with her. Guess what she told me,

"My son, it is too late for you to fail because I believe in you."

I dropped into tears and wept like a new born baby.

    Nice story!

I believe that people need to fail to learn... I fear of falling but the lessons I get from it is a metal picture of the lesson I've learned.

    good luck and more power!

I don't like Eminem as person (I mean he talks shi* about his wife and mother) but one line that stuck in mind from one of his rap was "success is my only motherf**kin option failures not".

And my all time favorite quote

When you say you can you are right and when you say you can't you are again right

Aw wow what a fantastic thing for your mother to say. I also love this part - "Don't compete for space with anyone"

Because when you're trying to make a success of something, such an internet marketing, it can be all to easy to look at others success and wonder why it's not coming to you, whether you should be doing the same as them. But we all have our path to follow and our own strengths to play on.

    Thanks,
    ~Ruth

    Yes, she is wise.

I called her on phone over the last weekend and she told me:

My son, please remain useful because it is the only way to remain youthful.

What is your Mum's phone number? I think I need to call her.

Thanks for sharing your Mother's great words of wisdom.

When I was 17 I got horribly drunk with some friends and picked up by the police for disturbing the peace. It was my first real experience with alcohol and my friends and I were running around the streets like crazy animals.

Anyway, we got picked up and put into a cell for the rest of the night. My Mum had to come and pick me up at 5 the next morning. I thought I was done for. The first thing my mother said to me when she saw me, so ashamed and smelling of vomit, was "Don't worry darling. It is OK".

      Will never forget it.
