Hard work is over rated

I have been making a living at IM for ten years. Most of the money that I earned was from projects that did not require that much work.

It seems like every time I start a project that requires hard work, I end up loosing money on it.

It think that it is more important to work on the RIGHT thing, than to work hard.

    Hi,
I think I can agree with most of what you said.

Well right now I'm a Freelance Graphic Designer/Web Developer.

Some Design Jobs that pays less, I can say that I Do put out allot of work for them sometimes.

And some of the Very high paying Jobs, were pretty easy and quick to complete.

But I don't think there is any real factor behind this.
For me this is just a case of "Sometimes"

What I surely agree on, is: "that it is more important to work on the RIGHT thing"

I get allot of Clients asking my to do Jobs daily, sometimes +10 Clients in 1 day.

I NEED to spend that time and evaluate which Jobs I should take, and which I should reject.

Talk the Scope of the Project over with the Client well, get in to proper understanding Terms, and Calculate which is more profitable for you.

Some Clients are just out to Trick or Overwork you.
So you always Got to keep your eyes opened in Business.

    Best Regards,
    -Andrew

    Thanks Andrew.

Nothing against hard work. The advantage of IM is that you can leverage your time.

If you are "beating your head against the wall" to make one small sale, then the problem may not be that you are not working hard enough. Right?

Well, there is hard work that you do and then hard work that you have others do.
Not to mention hard work to one person is just getting warmed up to another.
But I agree, working smart beats the hell out of working hard. And if you combine the two then you have a step up on tackling anything.

Fascinating thread. If I knew exactly what I do today to make money, I would do it a long time ago. Achievers work hard, but they work hard to figure out how they can succeed easier. It's about filtering out what doesn't work. That job is hard.

    I agree.
Working smarter than working harder makes your work seem easy.
Leveraging everything in your life can help tremendously ease your life!
I think as more and more people use outsourcing and automation,
there will be a revolution in how people make money.
More entrepreneurs will rise and move the economy.

I know what you mean about hard work, i think its more about working smarter, playing to your strengths and outsourcing the stuff you're no good at, don't like - you'll always do better on something you enjoy

More than probably the things that make you the most money are things you don't perceive as hard work.

Many people find writing articles to make money hard work. I don't, I love it and it's easy. But it's easy for me because I love it.

i have always had the belief that it's not the techniques we use that fail to make us money it's the fact that many people look upon a lot of the work they choose to do as a chore.

    Ken, totally agree.

That's a big "secret." I've "worked" more hours today than most internet marketers, but none of it was particularly hard, because it was strength based.

    Sorta like going the gym...

If I get under 225 lbs I'll get 10 reps.

The next guy might get crushed.

They guy after than might get 25 reps.

    It's all relative.

The phrase 'Hard Work' sees such a vast array of connotations. Many of them being completely divergent from each other.

I'm not 100% sure how to approach your post for this reason.

Hard work, as in spending 12 hours per day, is certainly unnecessary. So is pushing yourself until you are stressed. And many times people only say it is 'Hard Work' if they feel overwhelmed.

None of these are necessary. I'd agree on that front as it seems what you might be going for.

Work hard or work right? There are most always two or more paths to the same thing. Some easier than others.

What is hard work? If you love what you're doing, you can put in 12 hour days and feel like you've played all day. If you loathe your work, an hour can seem like a year in the trenches.

First and foremost I suspect it's important to do work that you truly enjoy and find satisfaction in. This way you never have to work another day in your life.

And if you can keep it simple, all the better. The best things in life usually are simple, so why shouldn't the best money makers be simple as well, right?

I think this is what Hotftuna is talking about - refusing to complicate things or make them harder than they should be when you can keep them simple.

And if you can complete 3 simple projects in the time it takes you to do one complicated one, and your success rate is 50%, then you're going to have 3 times as many successes!

Now that's something worth thinking about!
