Hello,

I`m a university student in management information systems and marketing. I am interested in Internet marketing, as it seems to combine both my interest for marketing with a not-too-technical side of computer science.
I am a bit lost at the moment, since the university lacks concentration: all courses are about everything and nothing in particular. Thus, I'd be grateful to anyone who could enlighten me about

- starting positions and growth perspectives in the field;
- salary ranges (I`m in Canada);
- skills particularly important for novices in the field;
- kinds of activities I should dedicate myself to during my university studies (one year left) to be better prepared to enter this job market.

Thank you in advance.

    hi,

    I could say it's really depend on what do you want to do ?
    As it seems to be general, maybe it will be a good thing to become a good affiliate or a super affiliate - earn money on line - Once done you could choose to become an affiliate manager - build a SEM business - or simply build your own business as an affiliate...

    You need to be more clear about what do you want to do? and also you'll probably discover that you will like some field or others not - in this case focus only about things that you love to do...

    If you enjoy to make SEO, traffic buildind - focus on it - if PPC -SEM is your cup of tea - do it....and stay focus...

    People often fail because they can't stay focus - one more thing never give up

    i hope it will be helpful

    Try to find good dropshipping company, make your own eshop and try IM by yourself. It will give you best idea and best experience without excessive losses or costs.

      That's an interesting idea. I've never heard of dropshipping but I see what it is. I'll google and try to figure out how it works. Thank you a lot.

    First things first - choose a certain channel and concentrate on it.

    Following many channels and trying to do many things all at once leads nowhere.

      That is exactly what I am trying to do - to determine what "channel" suits my interests and abilities best.
      Since growth opportunities and financial incentives are important to me (as well as communication with people, which excludes permanent work in the Internet from home, for instance), I am trying to see what possible options are.

        I think to work in this field you will need to get experience before you will be able to get a job. I do not know of any college that teaches IM. Lucky for you its easy to find work in the IM field. Just go to an affiliate site like click bank and get started. Also as you learn there are lots of IM course here at the warrior forum. But the biggest thing is to start on your own and go from there.

        Kind Regards,

        Steller

    Great...I have a couple of suggestions.

    1. Marketing no matter where you are is ALL ABOUT understanding the customer. There is and/or/but here. So get involved in talking to the people in the market you want to take up when you graduate...or just cruise around markets until you get a feel for the overall game. Obviously both have their benifits: It comes down to Specialization vs Variance

    2. If you really want to become a great marketer engage with customers or simply with people that are interested in the field you have some knowledge/experience in. So, start blogging everyday! Just put up a blog and unleash. Don't worry about getting all professional right away. Just get to it. You have a lot of time for your transfer....blogging helps you take surveys in a flexible format. It's absolutely brilliant for marketing in every way....blogging is kind of novice marketers. I'm sure you could find a couple of simple WSO's to help you get started on it...actually if your interested, next month my business is going to be releasing a product about Niche and Blogging...kind of a weird combination but hey, It's the bridge to real world marketing. (Not a sales pitch promise. If you don't want to pay for any WSO's it's still a great idea to blog. The best even blog everyday and send newsletters for their market research. It honestly doesn't get any better than that)

    3. Once you start to get a rep and/or you feel comfortable around your fan base you can start giving out free 30min 1 hour coaching sessions so you can really understand your customers...if they all tend to have the same question that you can answer, make a product out of it!!

    4. Practicality. NO ONE CARE'S ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW. They only want to know how it can help them and the easiest way to do it....there's no if/ands/buts. Human's take the path of least resistance....why waste time? Honestly?

    Honestly, this is all you'll ever need to know....just remember. What your customers want is obviously the product you should make. Then you it's crucial to an simple and practical format....then get feedback from your customers, give out free Q&As webinars about the product.

    I think that'll be more than enough to keep you busy : )
