So I'm sitting down, about to do some work...

Then, I decide, 'maybe I'll check warriorforum
quick, or see how the stock market is doing.'

Ok, I'm done that now...time for some work..
But wait, I could really use some coffee...

You see where this is going

How Do You Focus? ? ?

#focus

Probably kind of silly, but I rock some tunes when trying to focus on a given task. I have found that also having a set schedule for certain things keeps me motivated to keep going. For example, Sunday is "usually" my site-writing day. I'll spend between 6 to 7 hours writing content for my revenue sites and then just set my blogs to update when they need to.

This way I can focus on building backlinks the rest of the week, monitoring results, and utilizing other marketing techniques. Something I have been working on the last month is to stop being lazy when it comes to backlink's and just do them myself. I just have to stay out of the "Hire a Warrior" section lol.

In general if listening to music I can pretty much zone in and focus on anything that needs to be accomplished.

    • Yes, I agree with mainstreetcm. You need a schedule. I know exactly what you mean because I use to have distractions. If you don't start with a schedule, then things you should have done will slip through the cracks.

For example, I lift weights and run a home business. On my schedule, I have to write down all the vital things I need to do in the morning, noon, evening, and night. The obvious things such as brush teeth, wash face, eat breakfast are common things your brain is programed to do anyway. But I have to write down (under morning) 1. take vitamin, 2. drink 16oz of water, 3. drink 16 oz of protein shake, 4. clean room, 5. check email

Once I get everything out the way, then I can focus on my business without interruptions and this also keeps from having disappointment when later on that day you find out you missed something and now you have to go back and do it - as a result cause you to get behind.

You want to be successful? Set goals...All successful people throughout history practiced goal setting.

An effective method i use to stay focused and successful is to set daily goals. Right them down the night before. Wake up and start, just make sure you do not go to bed until your daily goals are done and you have wrote the daily goal list for the next day.

Being someone with ADD and procrastination issues, I would like to point out that just having goals isn't enough. I can write down goals all day and never get anything done.

I started using the Pomodoro Technique recently, and it is actually helping! You write down what you need to do that day, and then set a timer for 25 minutes. You work in 25 minute chunks with 5 minute breaks in between (and longer breaks occasionally.) Instead of letting things like WF, the stock market, and coffee distract you, you write down things like that so you can take care of them on breaks.

I was a little skeptical at first, but I tried it and it really does work for me. Combine it with your favorite music and it may work wonders like it did for me. You can download a free PDF of the book at The Pomodoro Technique and I just use a kitchen timer that I bought for $3.

      Hope that helps somebody.

I write a list out the night before

Pin it on my wall - stare at it before going to bed

Wake up the next day - get started , cross off each item until its done

If its not done I add it to my list for the next day

I keep the TV off while I work and switch of Aim as well

No distractions - get it done!

perfect example of someone who believes they are a "victim" of their own life. "Procrastination issues" is just another word for laziness.

You know, I think that was uncalled for. I'm not sure what rubbed you the wrong way, but you know nothing about me. That comment was arrogant.

I'm not lazy. I work very hard, but if you think that making goals and then not sleeping until you've achieved them is all there is to getting done what you need to get done, well I'm glad your world is so "black and white."

I wasn't bashing making goals. You have to have goals to have any sort of success. But for some people the whole "make a list and go at it!" plan doesn't work. We can work all day and not finish anything because we move from project to project too much. There has to be more structure.

So for you to come in and slam what I have to say when you obviously think your way is the only way is just narrow-minded. It takes all kinds in this world, and attacking people who are just trying to help for things you obviously know nothing about is childish.

I have goals, and I make good money. You apparently have nothing better to do than make demeaning comments. Does that help you and others work toward goals? Really?

I was just trying to give advice to someone who asked, and I'm not apologizing for being honest about my flaws and trying to help. Other individuals should try it more instead of just tearing people down.

    This is a great thread.

I find that shutting down all program's, browser windows, facebook, chat, etc. except for what you need to do you works well.

And making a to do list helps a lot as Aussie_Al suggests.

Pomodoro Technique? I never knew that's what its called but I also do this often. I actually learned it years ago from a fitness magazine that basically suggested to do everything in your day as quick, intensely, and focused as possible. Breaking it into to chunks and focusing on nothing else works wonders!

And remember F.O.C.U.S stands for... Follow One Course Until Successful!

    Here's to our future productivity.

    Sincerely,
    Eric Bonnici

I always plan things out and then get it done. I find it better to not to have anything around you while your working. As well as only one web page open. Then I don't think, I just work.

Staying Focus is something what a lot of marketers have a hard time doing. Me personally I Knock out the bigger things first like creating content and ETC then on to the smaller things.Do not check E-mail every hour that will kill your focus

    - Have the day complete on paper before it even starts

    - Have an accountability partner. This will eventually (and should be) yourself, but for now make it someone that you'll check in with to say that you got X done. it should be someone that it would be embarrasing to let down. if you're afraid to even ask a certain person...they are the one you want.

    - ONE task at a time. If your task is to write 10 articles, you don't even open Facebook, email, Youtube, answer the phone, use the toilet etc. until that task is finished.

    - Schedule break times and phone call/check email times

    - Be brutal with yourself...I don't mean violent, just pretend you are someone else who is working for you. Would you want them chatting online with babes while they should be doing keyword research? Hell no. Then why is it ok for you?

The best thing you can do is have a siesta. Sleep for half an hour and come back to work.

But most of the time it's best not to work at all. I can get a ton of work done in a few hours in the morning, and the afternoons are often a write-off. I might as well have gone home. If mornings are you best, schedule meetings in the late afternoon as much as possible so that you don't waste your most productive times. Make the most of your most productive hours and do admin the other hours.
so acording to me when disturb your focus you should laeve this work for some time and after relaxation start again you will feel better

    List-making and scheduling are key.

Knowing what to do and when to do it allows you to focus. Thoughts are airy and transient; try holding something in your mind and see how long it stays there. Unless you're a Zen master you won't have that type of focus.

Mainstreetcm mentioned music and I heartily agree. Music creates a vibration which promotes focus if it's the right kind of music. I prefer club-type music or classical depending on my mood. Both help me to zero in and tune out all the mental chatter going on.
