Hi,does anyone have advice on being able to stay on task?
I have plenty of motivation and drive but it is really hard to concentrate when you are worried about money. It also does not help I am ADD, but I have taught myself to use that as an advantage, but it is still a big hindrance when there is a big monster standing behind you.

I recently learned to stay on task but it happen after I read a lot about discipline and concentration. As everyone has different situations and previous experiences, it becomes silly to shoot some advises which in the first place you may be aware of, and if not, they may not suit your conditions which leaves you to dig your own well of information to influence your mind to act on the important task by forgetting the big monster standing behind you. The monster is distracting you because it's too big but remember Prophet David who said the Goliath is too big to miss.

Breaking the task in small steps helps you stay on track, because you are motivated by small victories.

If you have a large task that takes 8 hours to finish, it's easy to get distracted. But when you split it into 10 minute smaller ones, it's not overwhelming any more.

Eat your elephant one bite at a time.

FOCUS is one of the most difficult tasks to be able to stay on track. In your case, you just have to eliminate the things that you don't need the most so that way you'll also forget doing them. It's just like breaking difficult habits at the start but when you're getting used to only work on the "task" that you have to do yourself, then you'll be able to focus better and better.

    I hope that helps.

I really don't know what ADD is. If you work from home you may find it difficult to stay motivated. I have been working at home for three months and it wasn't easy at the begging.

I think two things you need to settle

      1. Motivation

      2. Handling distractions

I read a couple of good articles from Lifehack.org, I don't know if I can post the links here, but they realy helped me. If I can post the links, please someone tell me, and I'll do it. If not, maybe I could just write the name of the articles.

You have to focus to achieve your goals. Do not let anybody to distract or discourage you, instead, take it as a challenge for you to stay on what you are currently doing. Have a good present of mind.

Everytime you get off track ask your self these questions: (Think of the opportunity cost)

    why am i doing this
what could i be doing with this time
what am i losing on if i keep on doing xyz

That's gonna but you right back on track, unless what you got side tracked with is urgent or important, but it sure can make up for time spent surfing, chatting, watchin' TV or other activities that bring little results. Hope that helps...

    Hi Jeff,

I used to be ADD, or borderline, or whatever caused me to go days on end without being able to read more than 2 sentences without my mind going haywire. It was frustrating, depressing and downright maddening at times, I used to sit on my living room floor and cry when my mind wouldn't stand still for days.

#1 - Meditate Daily. No excuses! This calms your mind and improves concentration.

#2 - Adopt a definite major purpose. Stick to it. Take a break each hour to see it in detail. This creates focus.

#3 - Find the Why in your What. When selecting a goal determine why you want it. When you have identified and felt this emotion over a period of time you will have no problem whatsoever focusing on a goal achieving task.

If you have any further questions feel free to reach me on my social networks or send me a private message. Thanks!

I do not have ADD but I can be distracted easily too. I find that doing ONE thing at a time (and get it done) helps me a lot. It might seem to be a simple concept but many times I can be tempted to do something and start another thing without finishing the first task..........

I've also experienced times (and admit) that in spite of having enough time to do something, being focused is not enough. It's a matter of "I know what I have to do and plenty of time to do it, but I don't feel like doing it/don't want to do it."

Fortunately, times like that don't happen often. But when they do, I refuse to sweat it and usually switch tasks or do something completely different.
