I was recently having a skype convo with a friend and was basically telling him about how the mindset change almost doubled my income and let me quit my job and to my surprise this is what he said.

Having the right mindset and b.s is all crap - doesn't work and is only a formula big Self Improvement guys preach to distract us from our goals.

Yea?

What do you think ma fellow warriors?

I think, that is the only difference between $10 a day to $1000 a day, that is the key to success and the Mindset alone is the most important factor. Your thoughts??

I think mindset is important but at the same time I don't think about it to seriously. All you have to do is work on your business until your hands or eyes get tired. I think it would be more important to be effective then have the right mindset. If you work hard success will happen for you.

Take a step back for a moment. Clear your mind. Ignore everything around you. Close your eyes. Open them again. Look around you. What do you see? Of all these things you see, what's the very first thing that made them come to be?

    A thought.

That's it. A thought. Everything starts with one thought. Then more thoughts are thrown into the mix, then they are grouped up into a plan... Then somebody takes action on said plan and creates something. Either way, it started from a thought. Everything.

Since we can deduce quite effectively that one's thoughts form one's mindset, I think it's safe to say that your mindset is paramount to your success. If your thoughts are pervading your mind with death, destruction, failure, destitution and such, then that's what your thoughts will lead to creating. It's been proven. Anyone who says something like the OP quoted from their friend, is scared to face the truth. They are likely unhappy with themselves and their choices, and refuse to take responsibility for them, therefore rendering themselves powerless.

Was just talking about this stuff over here:

I think having the right mind set is crucial for success.
Having said that, like everyone has said it's hard to keep
that mind set when your just starting out.

Having the right mind set is easy, keeping it is another animal.

There are things you can do, and things you can't.
Spending money for every program you see, or think you want
isn't even realistic for most of us. It's almost, or can feel like your
swimming upstream when you see some of those programs, and
all you can think of is ( How simple would it be if I just had that?)

You need to think outside the box, a lot of times that simply means
taking the longer road to accomplish even the little things, applying
hard work and persistence where needed.

Goal setting is just one of many things that you can do to help
keep the right mind set. Having realistic expectations of your
    goals.

I am always blown away by the think out of the box ideas that
appear on this forum. That ( Think Out Side The Box) persistence
is another tool that has helped people reach their goals.

Just me, but I think the reason so many to loose the right mind set is
simply lack of focus. Focus is a must if your going to survive on the
WWW. Finish what you start, stay with it until your certain you have
    mastered it.

I'm getting long winded here, so I'll just finish up by saying yes I do think
that mind set is important, so focus on keeping it. Looking for ways and
tools like (thinking outside the box), (goal setting), (mentors).

Nice thing is there are a pant load of most everything you need right here.

I think you need to know what you want and believe you can get there. Call it what you want - mindset, positive thinking, whatever. If you don't believe you can do it, you probably won't.

Going from $10 a day to $1000 a day is a mindset issue, in my opinion. Getting to $10 a day from nothing takes a leap of faith to get started, but if you can make $10, you can make $1000 - you just have to multiply what's working, and probably learn how to do it more efficiently.

I always think that MINDSET is important because the mind creates our doings and the way it soars up high, we tend to easily reach our goals the way we wanted -- be it quitting dayjob, creating own business, building a venture, and so forth. Without the right mindset and just self-improvement, I don't think it's quite enough to succeed in the long term.

Alternatively, combining both makes it a lot better.

Right mindset + self improvement = taking action + right results

When we say mind set, do we really mean self-believe? I would say that nearly all successful people had tremendous self-belief in their abilities and their goals. A clear vision to the future is essential.
Think about it, of course hard work must play its part. However without planning, without the vision of where you want to be, then your just drifting. That means someone else controls your direction.

A determined mindset is like a guiding compass for enduring consistency. Without an unyielding will to finish what you've started, it's like navigating a rowboat without oars. Also when it comes to success, I have—one case after another—noticed how the ability to be consistent is what brings people to the top.

I started learning kung fu when I was 15, and I could observe how students were coming and going as if kung fu was something to be learned at an intensive weekend seminar. Many of them probably wanted to acquire "supernatural" powers, but practicing the sport is tough, and it's even tougher to keep at it for many years. But the longer I stayed, I noticed how the few people, who were determined enough to come to class nearly every time and keep doing so without getting lazy and giving up, improved and were requested by the teacher to supervise classes, teach beginner's courses, and become assistant instructors.

Since then I've been seeing this same pattern recurring everywhere in life. The individuals that commit themselves to making a consistent effort to improve themselves are the ones who get to truly enjoy the fruits of their labor. If something doesn't work, you are always free to tweak things a little bit or even start anew. The decision to quit, however, is the worst mistake that you can make, because it permanently locks all the doors, and brings you back onto the easy but less fulfilling path.

I've been studying Eben Pagan's product Self-Made Wealth, and I'm not at all suspicious or skeptical that changing your mindset will change your results. As long as you're in a negative state of mind, or a negative environment it's much more likely that you're going to be distracted, distressed, or disengaged from your efforts.

In fact, the wrong state of mind may not be a negative state of mind at all, but one that is not growing or changing. I was discussing with my best friend last night that it took me 3 years to see the results I wanted because while I was trying hard and had all the skills and know-how to get the job done, the comfortable (and sometimes negative environment) of my parents' house was not the place for me to succeed.

When I moved out I realized that it was much easier to meet new people, find other marketers, and maintain a happier, healthier lifestyle and my business improved as a result.

    Hi Guys,

Thought causes all. Man is mind so having the right mindset is the key to any successful venture.

One way to prove this. Look at people who say that positive thinking is BS. How many are billionaires? How many have buildings named after them? How many have statues erected in their honor?

If your not a driven individual and committed to what you are doing and trying to achieve you will end up in the pits. I think that most successful business people have a great focus and mind-set in relation to their business, financial and life goals otherwise they are not striving for the top tier of success. Without a self-belief you cannot achieve many things because you will end up not completing projects and other ventures.

    Arises a good discussion.

Personally, I'd be blunt with your friend and tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about. Mindset affects everything:

    - Motivation
    - Self-esteem
    - Patterns of behavior
    - Intellect
    - Creativity
    - Logic
    - Organization
    - On and on.

I'm willing to bet that your friend isn't a multi-billionaire. You should ask him why he hasn't made a billion dollars yet. He'll probably dance around it, but he hasn't made a billion dollars yet because unconsciously, he doesn't believe he can do it.

His argument may be that blindly telling yourself you can make a billion dollars is deluding yourself. He'd be right - you can't consciously one day say, "I'm going to make a billion dollars," if you've never succeeded before. That's where you start small - you overcome that inertia and take steps. "A thousand mile journey begins with a single step."

Our reality is a culmination of our repeated actions. If you want to make changes in your life, you must set your mind to it - then do it. What can you do TODAY to create changes in your life overall?

Do your realize in his own statement he disproves his own statement? It also proves he is on the right track.

"Distract us from our goals".... Ponder that a moment. This tells us he has goals, which consists of a proper mindset. Secondly, he does not want to be distracted from his goals, which indicates a "burning desire" and "persistence", two more important success mindsets.

If you take those thoughts into consideration, then maybe his statement is 100% accurate for him. His mindset, focus, and attitude are already inline with going for his goals. He does not want to be distracted by other ideas for how to create a proper mindset, because his focus is already on the goal, and moving towards it.

His biggest challenge will come if he ever gets derailed, and needs to reset. Then being able to leverage other people's methods could suddenly become very important to him.

Let me tell you in no undertain tersm, your mindset is everything. If you think you can, you can, and will.
If you think you can't, that is true as well.

You mindset affects your perspective, and believe me, it DOES make a difference.

Every business, I don't care what it is, starts with you, with yourself.
What does having the right mindset mean?
It means that you are clear about yourself, your motives and your goals. I made some youtube videos just about this topic because I think it's crucial.

Actually your friend got a point.

He said the mindset B.S is distracting from his goal.
The whole purpose of having the right mind set is to set the goal and stay focused and take action until you achieve it. Your friend seems to have a goal and is working on it. So he doesn't want to get distracted by all those "mind warrior" talk. Doesn't it make sense?

Remember, your friend may not have the same goal as yours. You might want to be an online millionaire while your friends goal might to excel in his career and get a top post in his profession.
If you know everything about mindset etc and do not take action, you will fail. If your friend knows nothing about all the "mindset B.S", but have goal, stay focused and takes massive action, then he will succeed.

What a great thread this has turned out to be. [I love the WWW and more importantly the Warrior Forum]

What a diverse yet intellectual set of answers we have here. Nevermind about my friend, as some of you have said he might actually have the proper mindset because he doesn't want to distract from his goals - but this thread is going to help anyone with basic questions about what 'Mindset' is all about.

Thank you guys and I am so glad that I started this thread. Goes to prove, you should almost always voice your opinions without expecting answers in your favor and when you do - you will be surprised at the wealth of knowledge people are willing to share here.

Based on the discussion here, I have planned some edits and additions in my report about Mindset. Version 1 is out already but I think after this thread, the updated version would be out sooner than I thought.

btw the very same report is available free as a wso [see sig] and the report is called The Ultimate Success Mindset for Online Entrepreneurs. Don't wanna sound like an advert here, so lets get back to the topic.

I'd love to have more view on this. How important do you consider the Mindset is in one's success. Have you experienced dramatic changes in your income/goals/achievements after your worked on your mindset?

Going from $10 to $1000/day is the easy part, certainly if you're working in CPA with paid traffic.

The real struggle is taking the next leap from $1000/day to $10000/day as this is generally where your natural scaling options are maxed out.

The biggest challenge of all isn't to do $1000/day, but to do it every day, 365 days a year. Anybody can get lucky with a campaign that blows up with huge profits for a month or so. Keeping the ideas pouring in and developing a long term business is where you'll need a little more than a happy go-lucky attitude to your work.

I think both Maddi and her friend are right: a lot of people confuse "positive mindset" with things like positive thinking (at the expense of acknowledging the negative things that are part of reality), positive visualisation etc. This is shown scientifically (google Uni Waterloo, Canada, dept of psychology "positive thinking") to lead to worse outcomes for those who do NOT have a track-record of success.

Proper "positive mindset" on the other hand has to do both with the positive outlook, but also the awareness of the stuff that's holding you back! And in my work with my coaching clients who are struggling to get a real IM career going, it's more often the negative stuff that's holding them back, and not the lack of positive thinking.

Mindset is a crucial component in the formula of success. You really have to believe in yourself to have the strength to carry on. One of the most important aspects of IM is to just keep on working and the results will come or to put in in other words.

Don't ever stop working, make sure to get the most out of every day and success will eventually come, pretty fast probably.

I think having the right mindset whilst doing anything in life is the key, as Henry Ford said "If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right."

The person that doesn't believe in mindset can't believe that everything they want is right at their fingertips with a few positive thoughts each day and turning those negative emotions into positive one's.

The Secret has helped the world to try and understand this, but there will always be the non believers.

Mindset and a good mentor to follow are keys to anyone's success in whatever they are doing.

Having a "positive mental attitude" (as Napoleon Hill calls it) is essential to success.

But, in my opinion, is not the only key to success.

I disagree with the popular saying that success is 90% mindset and 10% method. Maybe if you're already good at your method that's close to true.

Most people concentrate on the method and give little or no attention to the mindset. I did the opposite and got my mindset right first. Yet I kept failing and failing at making any significant money.

So, yes, as your friend said, all this "positive thinking" stuff can get in the way of accomplishing your goals.

If I could work 10 hours a day, and spent 9 of them (90%) on mindset training, and 1 hour (10%) on driving traffic, I would not accomplish my goal of making xxxxx dollars a day.

If I had a positive mental attitude 100% of the time, but was following a method that did not work, I would never make significant money.

For me, success came when my method became as strong as my mindset. For many people, they never get their method down because they give up -- i.e. don't have the right mindset. Success takes a lot of mental and physical work.

    Good discussion, thanks.

ultimately, the right mindset is essential for success. but it takes more than the right mindset to succeed. you need to put in the effort to get things done. what the right mindset does is to help you stay on track to persistently go after your goals despite all the trials that come your way.

There are many people like that around us... in fact the percentage is 95%...

They are jealous of your success and wants to pull you down. As Johnny Wimbrey
have said.... stay away from such people because they will eventually pull you down...

Mix with the people that out-thinks you.. people who think it's possible ....

WF here is a good example.... many people are already making a full time income
and just want to share their experiences and help the newbies here....

I completely disagree with your friend.

Having the right mindset is absolutely necessary.

No one ever said that having the right mindset was all you needed, but everything starts at the mind..if you don't have the right mind set to do the work that is needed to succeed..then you will not succeed...

Yes I agree that having the right mind-set to succeed is the key, however one can only agree to such a statement if one is at that place in their lives. For me it takes a level of study, personal growth and understanding before one is able to sing from the same song sheet.
