Newbie traps to watch out for

Very shortly after getting started online I found myself struggling with frustration and information overload. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

You get so excited about the potential of making money online that you find yourself getting carried away daydreaming about the riches that this new product will bring you, almost in no time, and then you get frustrated and discouraged because you did not actually get rich two hours after buying it...

And then there's information and product overload. There is so much to learn, and you want to start jumping from one super product or offer to another before you actually get a chance to go through and apply the information in any of them. If you come with a get-rich-now mindset, you get impatient and want to give it all up.

I found that balance, focus and consistency are the keys to avoiding this chaos. Having a balance between learning and actually taking action makes all the difference between failure and success online.

Tat

There's some great words of wisdom in there. I would advise any newbie to read those words carefully. Find something that sounds good to you, stick with it, and keep trying, even if you fail once or twice. Then figure out what went wrong before moving onto the next "method".

    YES YES YES!!
This is something that a lot of people miss out on.. PICK ONE.. pick one thing that you think is going to be awesome / treach you what you want to know.. and do it.. then stick with that subject / teaching till you feel you've mastered it. If you dont' get rich in 2 hours.. you're normal.. the people that do get rich in 2 days or 2 hours.. are the exception, just like those who go on a diet and lose 20 lbs in a week (results not typical).

There are so many products it's easy to drop 10 grand learning from everyone and their brother out there.. but you need to understand that you need to take incremental steps (Baby steps from "What About Bob")

You've taken your first step towards success, now it's your turn to take action and stick with it..

    Great post!

Love the 3rd paragraph. I would further say to always maintain clarity of vision so that your focus is in the right place and your actions are with purpose in that vision at all times.
    Thank you.

    Great points Tat.

It takes mental effort to adopt a rich mindset, more mental effort than most are used to expending.

Before the riches come the mind must be set on a riches and you must feel rich.

"start jumping from one super product or offer to another" - yes, a hard thing not to do.

I've found it helps a LOT to unsubscribe from email lists that just hammer you with more "stuff" all the time, its just awful mind clutter, especially if you check your email first thing in the morning.

to be a successful internet marketer you need to develop a healthy disregard for money....you will need to spend a lot to make a lot...but if you stick with it, it will happen for you!

Yes like others are saying, you need to stick with one thing don't jump onto the next best thing. When you decide on which strategy you're going to stick with, write out your plan and follow the productivity tips I wrote in the forums here.

    Enjoy

It seems people get frozen with learning and never take action. For every "failure" you get one step closer to finding the success.

Consistency and focus are the two things you said that resound with me. When I got into this deal I wanted to make money with Adsense. I lost focus once and I really regret it. I know am determined to turn my Adsense websites into what I need them to be before I move onto other "methods."

Also once section of this website I have only ventured into twice is the WSO section. I'm sure there are really great ideas and methods in there, but for me I picked my method and I'm focusing on it. I would encourage any newbie (like myself really) to do the same. Pick something and work at it until things go your way.

Consistency and persistence; Its always a great prospective view to come into this line of business with the wrong mindset and those people ultimately give up to soon because they do not quite grasp that the results will take time and some healthy work is required. Same goes for jumping from one "super" product to another; you must stick with one persons teachings and implement these into your work and make necessary changes which will enable you to position yourself for success and rewards.

Tatiana you hit it on the nose. It is also good to know that others have gone through the same stuff and I am not alone. I am finally getting a good weekly/daily schedule in place and doing it. Just doing at least one thing a day helps you stay on track. For me at least I have finally gotten over the honeymoon dream of 10,000 in two weeks, blah blah. Although this is achievable its not realistic for me to think I can achieve this just starting out. You need to put some effort into your business and let it grow. We are not buying a lottery ticket and hoping to be millionaires the next day. Once you realize that it takes consistent work to build your business your mindset changes and you go at it with a workhorse mentality. So as others have said pick something to help you in the process and act on it before you buy a new and improved strategy. Make a promise that you can't buy another gee-wiz product until you start making money. Then re-invest in your business and learn something new and repeat the process.

Great topic. I am going to keep this short and simple. In order to succeed online you need customers that will buy from you on a repeat basis, regardless of what you are selling.

So here is what any newbie needs to do:

    1. Find a profitable niche market.

    2. Put up a simple one page site.

    3. Build a list.

    4. Market related affiliate offers to that list (or create your own products), and more importantly provide your subscribers with valuable content.

I know this is very simple and just an outline, but research these aspects of internet marketing and you will be well on your way to success.

I love internet marketing for being, in many ways, a game changer. You can work from home, from anywhere in the world and you can have your website working even while you're sleeping. It's brilliant and wasn't truly possible until 20 years ago (at best). So, we're truly lucky and this is a new thing we have the advantage of using.

Yet, at the same time, it doesn't matter what the media is, what the culture is, who you are, how old you are, whether life has been easy or hard for you, whether you're short, tall, married, single, have blue eyes, man, women, etc... none of that matters in the face of some of the immutable and unbreakable laws of life. Such as, 1) no free lunches, 2) nada por nada, you can't get something for nothing 3) the world doesn't owe you anything 4) You can fool all the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can't fool all the people all the time... and so on.

You can't break these laws but you can break yourself against these laws.

So, don't think there are any short cuts to true, meaningful, fulfilling success and happiness. You must offer value in order to get what you need. Sure, you can make money from duping people, but it won't give you the fulfillment that you need.

My whole point is, don't think that just because the internet has created new possibilities that any of the laws of life have changed. They haven't, and these aren't specific laws, but laws about how the world has and always will work. If you try to break them (they're unbreakable, just like the laws of physics) then you'll simply lose out and keep losing until you start to observe and abide by them.
