Newbies: Affiliate Marketing Really IS An Art

Earning substantial money from affiliate marketing truly is an art.

Hate to say it, but writing up a decent product review and slappin' it online won't get you too many sales. You've got to do many things to make money from your affiliate links.

What you need is an Affiliate Marketing Strategy... and it'll honestly take a little bit of WORK (yup, that nasty word again!) for you to generate some sales from your links.

Example Affiliate Marketing Strategy:

Step #1

TAKE YOUR TIME, and choose product to promote. After that, sit down and come up with an informative, unique product review. This process should take you a little while... 10-20 hours, or even more.

Step #2

Whichever affiliate network your product is from (ClickBank, Amazon, Commission Junction, etc)... become an affiliate, and get your affiliate link. Put your link on your review page, and publish it on your website/blog.

Don't have a blog or website right now? No problem! There are sites that you can take advantage of if you're in this position. Squidoo, HubPages, and WetPaints are just a few examples.

**Remember** --> Keep this process as simple as possible. All you have to do is publish your webpage that has your affiliate link on it... and divert traffic towards it. That's all!

Step #3

Now we come to link building... which will result in the traffic that you need. All you do for this step is post more, similar content on OTHER popular websites (there are TONS of these online).

In this content that you post, throw in a link that goes back to your review page -- which has your affiliate link on it.

Examples of Popular Websites -

-- EzineArticles
-- HubPages
-- WetPaint
-- YouTube
-- Xomba
-- eHow
-- WikiHow

etc, etc...

Step #4

Next we have Social Media, which can be kind of fun. Divert even more web traffic toward your affiliate links by using Social Media sites like:

-- Facebook
-- Orkut
-- Twitter
-- Digg
-- Reddit
-- StumbleUpon

(lots more of these... just Google "Social Media websites" if you want to do more)

Step #5

Take a little break... sit back... and watch your traffic accelerate.

Now this WILL NOT happen overnight. It can take anywhere from 7-15 days for you to start seeing considerable traffic, but it will come. Be patient

Once that traffic comes to your page... assuming it's targeted... you'll make money.

How much? I honestly don't know.

But making money starts with a plan... and this one works just fine.

That wraps up this long post... Wanted to give a basic strategy for anyone out there who is BRAND NEW to the wonderful world of affiliate marketing.

Great tips listed above. I would just like to add that getting targeted traffic is the key to being successful with affiliate marketing. If you are promoting products that would interest men 18 to 24 don't try and market your website featuring the products to women 30+.

Now this WILL NOT happen overnight. It can take anywhere from 7-15 days for you to start seeing considerable traffic, but it will come. Be patient
Sound advice, but even I will admit this is something that is hard to practice. Being a results driven person is ok, but learning that things take a little bit of time will take you far. At least thats what I've learned myself.

All I can add is to read the TOS very carefully. To get a clickbank
payout can be quite a task for newbies given their terms. Many
others have some strict terms as well. It is amazing how many
newbies here come for advice on specific products, which can
be readily found in the TOS if they would just read them and
take them as the gospel truth. Many people come here complaining
they have been canceled and swear they did nothing wrong.

Facebook also has strict rules about using personal accounts for
      business and posting affiliate stuff.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

One of the most helpful threads I have read so far, bullet point information is so much easier to digest than paragraphs made up of someones disorganised ramble. Thankyou

    Jake,

nice strategy for newbies. The only thing I would add is that you should install an opt-in form in order to capture the email addresses of your website visitors.

This way you can place them into your sales funnel, where they can receive up-sells, cross sells, etc. I have found that long term this makes earning a nice living from affiliate marketing much easier.

Great post, just wanted to add a little to it

Another great point. Don't try and do something until you have juiced yourself into it. I can't stress this enough. When I began I read everything I could get in front of my eyes about affiliate marketing and adsense. It helped immensely to experience my early success.

Great thread to remind us of the basics.

Affiliate marketing is only an art when it comes to planning and developing ideas.

The real money maker makes it "science" when you need to test, test, and test your data/results, analyze your cash-flow, scaling and expanding your business.

    Nicely assembled post, Jake.

Great that you called out to the newbies in the post title too.

The auto responder component suggested by mlord10 is a must in my opinion.

when writing a review though, what keywords should we be targeting? do we target any specific keywords?

and once we do the link building, what keyword are we trying to rank for?

      thanks!
