Have you done your best today?

Last night, before I went to sleep I asked myself this question and found myself lacking. It came to me right before I drifted off to bed and haunted my dreams. In fact I had a terrible dream about failing my family and ruining us...(it also involved some weird life or death reality game show set in a futuristic Africa, but that's a whole other bit of fruedian issues...) Anyway I woke up this morning with the thought that I will do everything I need to get done today so I could go to bed tonight satisfied with my self and my work. Needless to say today was the most productive day I have had in quite a while. Just something I thought I would share with you guys.

This is an important question to ask. Never neglect it.

The key is to ask, answer and let it go. I used to feel guilty if I didn't put out max effort and the negative emotion is an energy sapper.

Now after giving myself an honest answer I make the decision to move ahead while continuing to put out max energy in attaining my goals.

It's funny, life becomes simple as you learn it's a question/answer session between you and yourself. Ask questions continually and eventually you ask the right ones, leading to the correct answers. All that you need is within you.

To ask yourself if you did your best should always be put in
context of what your day was like and the circumstances you
encountered. I'm not sure if asking if you did your best can
actually have a negative effect. I'd rather dust myself off and
say, "whatever happened today, tomorrow I'll do my best to
do better." Not dwelling on the bad days or be euphoric on
the up days makes me more positive.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

When my sons were young there was a time when life was hectic and I found myself night after night thinking "I should have done this" or "I should have been kinder or more helpful" or "I should have been more loving".

I kept beating myself up over my inadequacies - after the fact. When I realized that I was the only one who KNEW I was sorry for things I didn't do and for some things I did...I changed my behavior.

I started taking a few minutes when I woke each morning to think of what I could do to make the day of those I loved a bit better. It started the day with a positive outlook rather than with regret for yesterday - and it made a difference.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

This post makes me feel a little guilty because i know that i dont do my best regularly.

Procrastination is my biggest enemy, and all i need to do is just do it (like nike).

has anyone got any tricks they do to get around procrastination? i find that if i have a fun activity planned then the hours before are very productive.

Paul, I think you hit the nail on the head. If one falls short today on doing his/her best, rather than dwell on the negative, vow to improve tommorrow.

  • Thanks because you shared this...

I hope that you will not have such dreams any more and that you'll be more productive... I think that "focus" is the main word. Focus on what is important and leave everything else aside.

I wish you a lot of hard work in the future.. ;-)

Thanks for sharing this. I sleep much more soundly when my lists got thoroughly checked off for the day - even better when the list tomorrow is fleshed out before bedtime tonight.

I usually set up goals for everyday and then check if i finished them at night, if not that missing activity becomes my first priority the next day. So i do try my best to do my best every day

It was said that try means failure to the mind. So I think it's best to do or not to do. There is no try in success. Successful people don't try to be successful, they become successful or they don't. It's a Black and white thing. No shades of gray on this topic.

its funny how life treats everyone, i work this morning believing am going to complete my msc project, almost through with it when something happen that made me fail on it. i realy think prayer and spiritual will can guide us through all our stress in life.
Always say a prayer or two before stepping out of the door, no matter your believes

Many a times I try to give my best, but things like family/kids/etc. always seem to find their way to you when you are most concentrated in work... Arrrghh..

Let me try and give a completely different take on this. I never ask myself if I have done the best today while I am going to sleep. Because there is no possible use with that because if the answer is no the only thing you are left with is a sleepless night. Instead ask the question in the early morning what have u done the day before and what are you planning to do today and have the determination to do it. then when it's night forget about the day and have a good sleep. It's healthy.

Its a really important thing to ask yourself at the end of the day i think. Because if you see that you havent done enough then you can put more effort the next day and that will give you the drive!

At the end of the day, this is the best question to ask oneself...

Rate yourself the scale of doing your best, after all you're the only one who really knows your capabilities...

Try to make one best step each day and you'll never know after a year it'll be 365 great steps towards your goal

    Best regards,
    Bob
