My thought of the day...

A man will work harder and longer for his own gain than he will for any master.

Unless I heard it somewhere and remembered it. I'll take the credit for that one. I have been up almost 48 hours with about 4 hours of sleep trying to meet deadlines for my clients. Why? Because I want to be a success. I want to build something and I know that I can. Do I work this hard at anything on my day job? No. Not at all. Don't get me wrong, I work with some great people. I have a very lenient and easy going boss who actually supports me getting my business off the ground, but I do not work for her like I work for myself. There is no extra profit to be made at work. We all know what we exchange for our pay and we are not giving a whit more. There are no raises, or promotions in my particular company at the moment. When I can increase my income through my own efforts, I'll forgo sleep, food, and even women to make it happen. Just some thoughts from a sleep deprived mind!

Haha. Thanks. I work the my state government as a graphic artist/editor. I've been there 6 years and with the economy being the way it is, I'll be lucky to still have a job next year depending on the budget. I haven't had a raise in 4 years. Unless someone dies, I will never get promoted. All of my good ideas I give the company don't earn me anything, in fact they make those immediately above me nervous. So the only real answer is to strike out on my own!

Very inspiring quote! Being my own boss and working toward my own personal goals definitely give me motivation than working for anyone else. You haven't had any raise for 4 years? Wow! That's such a long time. It sucks how some people above you are afraid of your idea or talent. I think you made the right decision to strike on your own. Good luck!

I work hard more for my family and the life I can provide for them. I'd live in a box and work 80 hour weeks if it meant they were sleeping inside a nice homes. The key to life is giving, not working for personal gain.

Of course we all have some hidden selfishness.

A man will work harder and longer for a great contribution then he will for someone else.

I refuse to work for another boss. The reason why is as a migrant i had to start of working in take away stores and cleaning companies, and to be honest not many of my bosses treated me well. I was the type of worker that was extremely loyal and even worked for free at one stage just to help my boss out. But in the end they for the most point dont appreciate hard workers and treated me not so nice.

Being my own boss i can reward myself when i do the hard work, and i know when i have finished a difficult task and done it well there will be no "boss" to tell me otherwise.

It's in a man's self interest to want that. No on in their right mind would want to spend all their time getting someone else rich, would they?

Excellent sentiment! I totally agree. Thank you @swilliams09.

Beware, though. Self-employment is a bit of a one-way street: if my own experience is anything to go by, once you've tried it, you become unemployable, because you never want to go back!

So my advice is: make it work or else!

Yes, this all so true. I thought I was the only one who gets less sleep these days due to spending so much time working on my internet business, but now I understand we're all in the same boat.
