The Secret = Think And Grow Rich

I've been watching the secret recently and couldn't help notice the similarities. However it seems the secret gets alot of bad press, but think and grow rich doesn't. Why do you think this is that case?

And what do you think is unique with Think And Grow Rich and in the secret, or vice-versa.

    Hi Chini,

The Secret is the most mainstream law of attraction program. Mainstream = More Fans, More Critics. Give it more time and more will see it in a positive light.

Critics like to deride the simplicity of how the LOA is portrayed in the film. Few beings have the consciousness to manifest things with little physical effort and much mental effort. Hence a backlash from people who don't understand the workings of the LOA, and we know that the first reaction from someone who doesn't understand something to reject it. At least this is the viewpoint of the 99% percentile who do little thinking and much reacting to a new idea. If more people thought before they acted either they would accept the idea of an LOA or simply disagree with it and move on without having an emotional reaction to it.

Think And Grow Rich probably received a fair amount of criticism when it was released too but we are so far removed from those times you only hear glowing words about it now. In a weird way, it's almost like the eulogy/funeral phenomena. Ever notice how over time very few people are villainized/demonized, or once they are gone people see the good in them? When people perceive something or someone in a negative light they usually let go of their negative viewpoint over time, and see some positive. This is because we are inherently hopeful.

Well, nobody is around from the TAGR days so most people today just see the benefit of it. It's been on the market so long that skeptics from its first release have died and most people who brought it along generation after generation presented it in a positive light.

I felt the same way. When the secret came out and people told me how great it was I had a feeling they weren't introduced to Mr Hill yet

Think & Grow Rich don't receive bad press because it's really the first book of it's kind (published in 1937). Some would say Wallace Wattles' "Science Of Getting Rich" was the originator of this philosophy, but Wallace Wattles didn't do the extensive research that Napoleon Hill did. Think & Grow Rich has been republished over and over again by different companies for the past 70 years. Each time it's republished, people twist the message around to try to put it in their own words and the truth ends up getting lost. That's what The Secret did. The Secret told this cartoon-story about The Law Of Attraction and left out a lot of information in-between. Even Think & Grow Rich left out key elements, but you'd have to know the story behind that to understand how and why. But Think & Grow Rich is still a great book. The Secret is a good book to use as an introduction to The Law Of Attraction, but nothing more.
I agree totally that it was an intro to LOA and that is was vague. but this is lke most things that end up on talk shows, they end up leaving more questions unanswered than answered!

I also thought the secret was a little hyped up, wasnt impressed.

its because the secret makes you think you can sit back and do nothing but focus on what you want and your dreams will come true. Think and Grow Rich motivates you to actually DO and FOLLOW THROUGH with an idea.

Yes, this is the key difference. And I've heard experts on the Law of Attraction, people who appeared on The Secret say they'll get questions in the mail along the lines of, "How long exactly will it take until what I'm trying to attract arrives?" As though The Secret was a coupon you mailed in and 6 weeks later, the universe would mail you your heart's desire.

Think and Grow Rich talks a lot about paying the price, doing what you need to do to achieve your dreams.

The Secret is much deeper than that.

Ask. Believe. Receive. Receive, that's the culprit, and the error in most people's thinking. You will RECEIVE inspirational ideas to move into action on. There is mention throughout the film of inspired action. Many complain that it sounds like you just sit around, doing nothing and you will get what you want.

It's that exact skepticism which blocks your good! You are not thinking properly, so of course you won't get what you want. Only by being open will you get the LOA to work on your behalf. Skeptics close doors, believers open them.

And yes, you may also receive the thing that you want without having to move into a ton of action. Either way is possible but from the general commentary in society concerning The Secret most people are skeptics. Skeptic = Blockage = You Ain't Getting What You Want Unless You Bust Your Tail For Years, Or You Ain't Getting It At All!

The more you complain about a wonderfully simple and elegant concept, the less it will work for you.

Watch the film slowly - with an open mind - listen to each word. Begin practicing what they talk about on a daily basis. As in, do your mental science for hours every day. Until you make a full commitment you will remain skeptical and skeptics deceive, believers receive.

Many people who watch The Secret and criticize it are hearing what they want to hear instead of listening to the words and thinking them through. Then the pile-on effect starts. It's a human tendency to follow the crowd.

It's been said that 95% of the people who tried to apply "The Secret" failed. But look at that number...95%. Think back to what Napoleon Hill said back in 1925. He said that out of everyone in America, 95% would be classed failures and 5% would be considered successes. He also said that this disparity is largely because the 95% think one way while the 5% think another way. The 95% group saw it or read it and thought it meant that you can sit around, do nothing and manifestations will fall into your lap with ZERO action. They saw it didn't work like that, which is why they failed and said it must be a scam. So it seems to me like the 5% group was able to read between the lines of "The Secret" and get what it was really trying to say.

I honestly believe that if a person wants to hear the Law Of Attraction and how it works explained in great detail, they can get either one or two products...or both.

      1. Your Wish Is Your Command (This breaks it down to a science)
      2. The Law Of Success (1925 Edition) by: Napoleon Hill (This is where YWIYC got it's info from).

What you ending up learning is...when you learn how to attract things to you deliberately, you end up having to take less action. This is the reason why you see some people achieve tremendous success without doing much work. If you believe you have to work extremely hard to achieve success, then it's true. If you believe you're not gonna have to work hard, then that's also true. It's the thinking that makes it so. That's why people who rant about: "The Law Of Attraction is BS! Good ole fashioned hard work is the only way!" Those people end up never getting the point. Little do they realize, because of the LOA, they end up having to work hard to succeed because that's what they're vibrating. If you say the LOA doesn't work, then you're right...but not really. Because the LOA DOES work, it's gonna prove you right if you believe it doesn't work.

There have been times when I would do hardly anything except sit, around and blast out vibrations at high frequencies about what I want. The only action I would take is the action required when the right person, situation, circumstance or event arrived.

I remember these 2 incidents that proved to me how powerful this knowledge is. I decided to put it to a real test. First incident: There was a friend I hadn't spoken with in a while, but we still had contact. I wanted this person to call me without me reaching out to them. So for about 2 minutes, I focused my mind on this person calling me. About 10 minutes later, this person called me and said, "I just had this strong urge to call and speak with you since we hadn't spoken in a while...."
Incident 2: There was a deal I'd done where I lost a lot of money. For a minute, I was letting it bother me. But I referred back to the YWIYC training. So, I didn't worry about it. I convinced myself that I would make all my money back, plus some. Then a month later, I received back almost double what I lost.

Like I said earlier, in the end, it's all about perception. Some people get the point, some don't.

Because Think and Grow doesn't trick you into thinking yourself into riches. It clearly states ACTION and lots of it too, is required! Having the right mindset and taking action. The secret left the action part out and made it sound like a magical tale (I wish it was that easy)... Nothing in life happens without action.

      Yep, I agree.

Even when he stopped 3 feet from gold, Darby kept taking action until he succeed, and used that "negative" experience to propel him forward.

The Secret is hyped whereas Think and Grow Rich is a classic work. I am currently reading The Science of Getting Rich and I must say that they are all talking about the same phenomena.

The secret installs a very subtle misconception in the mind that doesn't work: that focusing on good things ALONE would solve all problems of life. Many people get carried away with that trying to win the lottery and what not. But they forget nature does not work that way. There is no reward in nature for Zero Sum games. You always have to give what you wish to get, and mental thoughts alone are not enough. This falls on the "necessary but not sufficient" category.

Think and Grow Rich on the other hand charts out all aspects of achieving success from mind power, to goal setting, to perseverance, to masterminds etc. It never at any point tries to convince the reader that doing nothing and focusing on law of attraction will somehow activate a mystical law that will solve their life problems.

The secret is this: harness the power of synchronicity through focusing on the right stuff + know your goals and purpose very clearly + work towards the attainment of it every single day + be happy right now and don't wait for the future to be happy.

Add with that complete detachment from the outcome... but thats for another day ;-)

Dont be so close minded in your pursuit to keep an open mind. Just because you believe in "the secret" doesnt mean that everyone else who doesn't automatically has a perception issue.

It all depends on how you look at it all. If you think it wont work for you, it wont. If you think it will, it will. Its all about how you are feeling. If the thing you want requires action, that action will be shown to you by how you are feeling when you are doing it. If what you are doing toward your action feels wrong, it is wrong. The more you believe what you are doing is wrong, the more wrong you become. Its not instant results that you will see, its the process that shows you the way.

And of course the Master Key System should also be mentioned in this respect; as formative in the collective Law of Attraction thinking. All three books (Science of Getting Rich, Think & Grow Rich & The Master Key System) are an excellent read in my opinion and they are all in the public domain too.

With regard to the secret, it has simply popularised this thinking and shown how quantum physics may lend support for some of the ideas.

Guys if you dig deeper into the secret you'll find that its origin was the Mystery schools of occult & the Kabbalah , Which basically has to do with Magick and really creepy stuff , This is probably why they called it "The Secret" .

And this never was a secret , It's just "Prayer" like in "Ask and ye shall receive" , The only difference is that these guys exchanged God with the universe , And made "Making Money" look like Freedom , Which is the fake rainbow most of people are running after .

    my 2 cents .

Both resources are motivational without any doubt and from that standpoint, both do the job they are supposed to do.

While I agree that Think & Grow Rich is better because it has some more tangible ideas.

Both are not "secrets" or the only right ways of thinking, they are just philosophies.

And I've learned 1 thing about men. They see the world, not with eyes, but thoughts. Either a man can be a slave to his thoughts or a controller, nevertheless either way thoughts will have the same impact on a man.
Second thing, there is no bad and good, or positive and pessimistic, these things are only the result of misconception of ourselves. We create good and bad, in reality it doesn't really exist.

How I see these things work is that once a man has created immense desire for something he gets power. Things that were not "possible" for him before become possible. He gets "blinded" for "rationality" you have when you are not in that state. Desire and faith create a lot of driving force that turns into action. If you don't take action, you don't really have faith, once you REALLY have faith for something you desire, you WILL 100% take action. There is no other way. This is how it works.

And when you do take action you usually do things you wouldn't normally do.

It's a philosophy that supports the idea that a man is heavily dependent on his thoughts, and that's true.

And even if you are ugly, uneducated, poor... you will find a way to get what you want. You will improve yourself and your conditions in life to be just a tiny bit closer to your goal. Step by step you will get closer. Now when you achieve your goal depends on where you are and how fast you are improving.

Same things have different price tags for different people.

And then you have a really high chance of achieving what you want. There is no guarantee because you can die before you reach the goal, but yes, if you keep that mindset and if you were able to live forever you could do it guaranteed.

Even though I think 100 years of life is more than enough It's being said that in about 10 years a man can do anything.

And I know I'm risking having a "normal" life, getting average things... but for me, average is not what I want, rich is the only thing that makes sense and I don't want it any other way. I rather die than to give up on the idea.

I guess this thinking is "nuts" for some, or weird and irrational, but I always say: "Don't judge others by your standards."
