What is the greatest flaw of Mankind?

In my opinion, mankind clings too much to his reason.

What are your thoughts?

Mankind is from an Adamic nature which is sinful in nature so it is not surprising that mankind will reason out if he thinks he is right.

Mankinds greatest flaw is the ability to accept and believe environmental inputs are valid limiters to personal actions.

If you can run true to your own path and go after what you truly want, and not be affected by what others believe, teach, or suggest, you can truly be happy, because you will be living a course you have chosen.

    Acceptance.

    Acceptance of negativity.
    Acceptance of failure.
    Acceptance of mediocrity.

    You get what I'm saying.

But as with everything of this nature, your greatest flaw can be your biggest asset.

Be adaptive, be versatile, be like water my friend!

Awesome. There is a book called the 48 laws of power (my personal favourite book) & the law 48 is assume formlessness. By the way I recommend this book to everyone

Because some argue competition is part of human nature.

While some see competition only a result of social adaptation based on how the economic system is structure and cultural influences.

I know the problem with mankind is we're competing to destroy more than competing with build.

I don't agree that competion is part of human nature. It's a state of being that belongs to the ego.

Simply because I change my mind about a lot of things as I keep learning. And it's probably not "The" greatest flaw, maybe just one of them.

        Good discussion.

Wow, super topic here and awesome insight EnergyAdvisor. I would tend to agree with you. Logic has its place but abandoning reason is when miracles - or what most people would call miracles - happen. Nature never deviates from her laws so I don't believe in the concept of miracles, I just view miracles as absolute faith in the Infinite while ignoring the knowledge of man.

Thinking will only get your so far in life. Being silent and listening, or just being completely silent for extended periods throughout the day will erase many of your flaws quickly, because you eventually release the silly, limiting belief ideas which you acquired by reasoning.

A lack of FAITH (belief without seeing)...simply put.
Most people will never believe in more than they
can physically perceive. It's because of this, mankind
looks to explore the unknown and develop an
answer despite a lack in knowledge. They will
formulate an opinion and find reason to justify an
idea, theory, or belief to appease a well known
      fact; most fear what they
      don't understand.

There are more flaws than perfection in mankind, indeed. Nevertheless, the greatest flaw of a human is to believe that everything around him or her is limited. This very limited vision of mankind is preventing us from achieving true creative potential within.

In my opinion one of the greatest flaw of mankind is that some of mankind are not willing to invest in the self-development that is necessary be, have and do. As James Allen stated in as a man thinketh, Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, however they are unwilling to improve themselves therefore they remain bound.

I think it was the NY Times which once put up an essay competition that went something along the lines of...."What is the biggest problem with the world today?" (which is similar to your question)

The great G.K Chesteron won the competition....this is what he wrote

The editor opened the envelope and for a second thought someone made a mistake..because all he found was a black A4 letter and at the bottom it read

    I AM,
    Your's Truly
    G K Chesterton

    The End

    That to me is BRILLIANCE...

    I would probably say greed.

I could argue against it being most things such as fear, reason etc, but can't think of an argument in favour of greed.

Nothing wrong with Reason, per se. It does do amazing things and has accomplished incredible advances in virtually every area of life. But it is a tool.
When Reason is worshipped, it becomes a Master, a slave-driver, rather than the tool it was intended to be.
The same is true of emotion. I saw a movie last night with the following line:
"Promises can be broken, but feelings never change."
Huh. Last I checked, my "feelings" were about the most fleeting thing on earth. The common cold lasts 10 times longer than most of our day-to-day emotions!
Like Emotions, Reason is a tool.
We are more than the sum of our parts. And my dreams should be bigger than me.

Putting the status of something above what it took to earn that status.

People want to be rich, without having to do the work to earn that money. Or people want to be famous, without making a huge contribution to the world that would make them famous. Stomach stapling and liposuction, instead of having the discipline to eat a reasonable diet and exercise a moderate amount.
