Task Lists - Are you wasting time today?

Here is something I'm using that has given me the kick up the ass!
Count down timers are great, nothing new here but when you see that those numbers go down, you get that feeling of:

"Why am I wasting time"
"I'm running out of time"
"Forum, youtubing, facebooking, twittering are non income producing activities....

Use this:

Online Stopwatch especially the countdown timer on the right

Today I'm a going to write at least 500 words for my dissertation within 3 hours (more research and thought than normal IM article writing). Have already done 143 and I have 2.5 hours left, heck I might even aim for 1000 words today.

I really should get off WF now so will be back later to update

Anyways post back here and tell us what you're gonna do today and let us know whether you completed the task.

I've got an egg timer on my desk that has a maximum duration of 45 minutes on it. When I need stuff done fast I switch it to 45 minutes and don't stop till it's done. Because I smoke it means I can't even have a cigarette until I'm totally finished which is a real carrot-on-a-stick for me!

I have two methods, depending on the task at hand:
    1. The strict time goal: Turn off everything else and spend three hours, say, writing however many pages of my next book. And do that every morning. Everything off for three hours is not an issue in the course of a whole day.
    2. The numerical goal: 10 pages today (though I usually don't use this method with writing), no matter how long it takes or how much time I "waste" along the way.

I use that, but not on that site.

I use GoPlan for managing my team, and it has a feature that let's you update your status to, let's say, "Writing 500 article for Lorem Ipsum". Then it starts counting the time, and when you are finished, just click finished.

You will be able to see how many time you worked for each task, and even calculate how much would that worth (if you set an hourly rate).

That's a cool link, thanks for posting it.

I still have to be very disciplined to stay productive during the whole day, with so many distractions and time wasters available. It doesn't seem to have gotten any easier, even after years of work.

I prefer to used a timer than a stop watch because of the beeping sound alert for each task I am spending. I will be using you recommended stop watch on some tasks because of its simplicity. Besides, I like the big fonts.

    Thanks.
