When Barack Obama won the US election yesterday there was an amazing outpouring of emotion and spontaneous relief among his voters. It is twelve months almost to the day when Australia went through exactly the same thing.

In both cases a relatively unknown, untried young politician got up in his first term in politics and moved the country behind him to take over in a landslide victory. In both cases the old administration was devastated by their incredible loss and the loosing parties involved decimated. In both cases history was made.

There has got to be something worth contemplating about the sudden rise of these men. Their similarity doesn't stop with their elections but with everything about them. They are both very clever, highly educated men from relatively poor backgrounds who struggled to achieve and to get where they could launch themselves forward. Nothing, it would seem, could stand in their way.

It is a great lesson for young people to learn. There is no handicap if the will to win is there and the power to enforce it over all odds is paramount.

Congratulations America you have done well!

Kevin Rudd's victory was nothing compared to Obama's victory. American's created history there. I highly doubt Australians will choose a dark skinned person to their highest office. Look at Canberra. Compared to the rest of Australia, most of the population in Canberra is white.

That being said, I honestly admire Kevid Rudd for his historic apology to aborigines and I also agree with your statement.

I don't know where you are from but the population in Canberra, as in the rest of Australia, is very much mixed race. We have numerous people in high office who were born overseas or whose parents migrated here, so they are first generation Australians.

It was not my intention to take anything away from Obama but to reemphasize the similarity in their rise and backgrounds. I am sorry if anyone takes it the wrong way round.

The same thing is about to happen in NZ where a young untried politician appears to be about to unseat the PM of some 11 years. The people seem to be going for the new breed rather than the old hat and I think there is a message in that.

Something of a revolution you could say - people nowadays are really looking for change. Sick of the old, and never too tired to see something new that could help them improve. Oldies watch out. Congratulations to Obama.

yes, change is in the air all over. The New Zealanders went for change yesterday, just as noted above, when they elected a young, untried politician to the top job. Wonder who will be next?

  • I love it that America voted for change. I was disappointed at how many people voted for McInsane as I "affectionately" call him. I was however quiet disappointed in this election for many reasons.

    1) Many Americans are really afraid of Obama, thinking strange things like he will rob from the rich (barely rich) and give to the poor. But the truth is the Super Rich are robing form the middle class and poor on a regular basis and they don't even notice.

    2) You cannot get to be in the position to be elected for President of the USA or Prime minister of Australia unless you are a part of the Illuminati. Obama already voted with 13ush to take away our freedom of privacy by making what was previously illegal wiretapping legal. WATCH Obama will do the similar thing to crush American freedom (all for a very good reason) and enslave us under a fascist government.

There is more but I won't go on. We are not run by our govenments but we are ruled by an unseen organization...yes organization that owns this world as far as we can be owned by a physical being. So please open your eyes up and pay attention. We the people must stop these incridibly sly politicians an their puppet masters from continuing with their evil little games.

Sorry to rain on your parade...but it is time to wake up!

So, how do we untangle the tangled web and strip the CEO's of their billions while the ordinary people loose their homes, livelihoods and all too often their lives in the struggle?

I think Obama will come through for America. If he doesn't who will? I can't see anyone else on the horizon.

As long as we are confident with our abilities and in the product we're marketing, and as long as we project such confidence to our prospective customers, sooner or later we will land that break we've been waiting for.
