I'm posting this because I know others are dealing with a similar situation to what I am about to talk about. I'm not posting this to bost or brag, but because I know some newbies will see this and hopefully it will help keep them motivated. I was a newbie once, and stuff like this helped me out.

If you are just starting out in internet marketing and working at making your first dollar online, friends, family and possibly coworkers are going to ask "what the heck are you doing?"

...or "Get a real job"

...or "You can't make money from the internet, I can't believe you believe that stuff. It's all a scam. Pick up a second job."

They won't believe in you and they will think you are silly for what you are trying to do.

I was told all of this stuff and much worse in the beginning when I first started. But, I used it as motivation to keep moving forward knowing 100% that I would reach my goal of working for myself, from home.

Nothing feels better then seeing the looks on their faces the day that you finally leave your job and go all out in business for yourself. I'll never forget the look on my best friend's face when I showed him my paypal account the day after my first $1,800 day.

He always teased me about "playing on the computer all day", and that I "didn't work". That shut him up lol

What kept me going?

Fantasizing about the day when I could rub it in all the naysayer's faces, even if they were a family member I loved.

Why did I succeed?

Because I had no other choice and I wanted it bad...more than I've eve wanted anything in my life, and that's what it takes.

Listen, I've sacrificed and lost a lot of things to reach the goal of working for myself and from home.

I lost my girlfriend and future wife of 8 yrs. She never believed in me and thought what I was doing was all some big joke. Because of this, she didn't respect what I was doing and we began to fight like a couple of maniacs and eventually broke up.

I could have stopped "playing with websites" to save my relationship, but I didn't and I don't regret it one bit. Now I have a girlfriend who believes in me 100% and would support me even if I started a business selling chrome underwear.

So does this mean I need to get a divorce or break up with my significant other?

Absolutely not silly I just wanted to make a point to follow your dreams and never lose site of your goals, even if that means losing some things along the way that don't harmonize with your future goals and what you are trying to accomplish.

There is much more to say but...more iced coffee is needed before I let out another rant like that.

    You are so right

Two years ago, I heard about a part time translating job, and I thought - what the ... it wouldn't hurt with a bit of extra income.

But I was wrong! I did hurt! Not only did this job drain me totally, even though it was only part time after 4 months, but my real business, my internet business, started to go down drastically.

So I quit my job. I hadn't had a job since 1996, and I shouldn't have taken this one, and I will certainly NEVER again take a job.

But my husband's uncle said: Oh, but that was such a good, steady income?

Even my son said: Oh, but that was such a nice job? What a pity.

They didn't understand. But well, I don't really care. What I care about is being able to decide, when to get up in the morning (or afternoon, if I want to), when to work, when to play World of Warcraft, what to do, and if the weather is fine one day, and I rather would stay outside, and read a book, I can do that.

No job or salary can ever make up for that kind of freedom, and when you make much more online than in a job, well, it's a no-brainer, really But yes, to begin with, you will make less. Just stick to it anyway!

      Great story, Peter!

The point in your article about your girl not believing in you is something a lot of people hurts. I think EVERYBODY deserves somebody who says "no matter what you come up with GO FOR IT" and supports you even in BAD times!

I am coming from the offline consulting business and I'm a little old school, but I remember when I had my first month where I've earned over 50,000 thousand bucks.

This was a good point to shut many people up

I've quitted my study and everybody laughed at me,
but you have to have the grind, the will to make it like you said
'I wanted it like nothing else'

Keep it up and I hope one day there will be a 18,000 dollar day ;-)

        Good for you.

It's normal for others to be skeptical - but you realized you were pursuing your goals...not theirs. If you count on others to support you - you will be disappointed. When you provide the support for yourself - it works.

I think in the future you'll be glad you lost the girlfriend. A spouse doesn't have to be a "rah-rah" section for your efforts and dreams - but should have respect for you and your goals. A controlling girlfriend would likely become a demanding wife who would not stand by you in any crisis.

Agree 110%. When I first started my family friends the lot thought I lost the plot. Telling me I am throwing money down the drain blah blah blah.

Then one day, I started traveling, bought a new BMW Z4 and life is pretty peachy (although still working like a slave), I am working for myself.
So yeah, hard work pays off and like I read in another thread yesterday, if any newbie out there really wants to succeed, you have to give a little in order to take. Hence the reason of my fairly new website which just helps newbies or whomever make a little extra cash.

I loved what you said Peter about fantasizing, so true, a real motivater!

This one thing you said is what I believe is the key to success in anything you do. You said "Because I had no other choice and I wanted it bad...more than I've eve wanted anything in my life, and that's what it takes." I sincerely believe that you must have no choice in order to succeed with whatever you are doing. This must be your mindset. This mindset eliminates all avenues of failure and does not allow you to make excuses on your journey to success. Thank you so much for sharing, I know your post will help many people that are struggling if they read closely about how you did succeed and what it takes exactly.

Thanks Allen. Leaving yourself no other choice is the absolute KEY. Here is something I didn't mention. My former girlfriend and I had just bought our first house together 3 month before we broke up!

I chose to keep the house myself and she got an apartment. I wasn't making enough money to afford the house by myself with my job. That was about the same time I quit my job and it was either make it or go homeless.

That was the key. We perform best when we back ourselves into a corner with only one way out.

OMG...I just wrote an article on this VERY subject.

Um, yeah...I think we've all be through the "You're never going to make
money doing this because it's all a scam" phase.

Fortunately, for me, my wife was very supportive. She really had no choice.
I was out of work and couldn't find a job to save my life.

She needed this to work as much as I did.

To this day, I keep letting her know how much money I made today or this
month or whatever, just to remind her that I was right about giving this a
      shot.

Ironically, she pays very little attention. She knows it's real now and
I guess kind of takes it for granted after over 7 years.

But I still love reminding her.

All kidding aside, it comes down to developing a positive attitude. If you
      think you'll fail, you will.

For me, failure wasn't an option...AT ALL.

Did I struggle at the beginning?

      Hell yeah!

I made $28 in my first 5 months.

Damn...I was proud of that $28.

But eventually, it started to come together. I was making hundreds and
then a couple thousand a month until I finally got to the point where I
was making over $16,000 in just one month...and December no less when
you're supposed to be making zip because everybody is out doing
      Christmas shopping.

If you put your mind to it, you can do anything.

If you don't, well, you know.

You guys stories are so similar of me, in some way or the other. I was completely into a different profession, modelling.. I came from a long way, away from my home, for this profession, but some issues occured in my family and had to leave it half the way. However the online world got my attention and within a year's time, I was one of the tops in my new online gaming business.

At first lots and lots of people were against it and even negelecting to accept that a girl can be successful in such a type of profession. But I never bothered about those comments

And see here I am working hard to get my graph higher and higher
The only thing what @ Britt Malka said here is GREAT. Working in the type of freedom you explained is ofcourse enjoyable, I would say it "fun and learning"
Yes there will be lot of obstacles in the start, but friends, believe me, online business (in whatever niche it maybe) is and always be a BOOM !!!!

My family is a traditional one so, they just want me to have a good (and boring) job, get married, have children, and happily ever after. In contrary, I am a free person who loves to try something new...so...when I tell them about online business?
just guess what's in their mind..
They think I am crazy and until now still think that I am doing something wrong that they never understand...
anyway, I make money and live as I want so, just keep doing that and even if people still doubt you...it's their thing, not you..

Awesome post, your story is really inspirational, and congrats on your success! I can definitely relate to your story.

Unfortunately, my family didn't support me at first and totally talked down on me. My friends would crack jokes about what I was doing and on my aspirations about making it online one day. It really did get to me at first, but I didn't give up and kept moving forward. I've always been the type of person who believes that anyone can do anything if you put your mind to it.

I took so many chances, struggled so much, and ran into many obstacles that I actually started to believe it was a sign for me to give up. Yet something kept telling me to move on.

Within a short period, I had the confidence to work full time online. The freedom, opportunities and people I've meet along the way, have made it all worth everything I had to go through. And now just about everyone I meet and know are totally interested in what I do and want me to coach them. I give them a few tips and directions on how to get started but that's about it.

Just in case anyone wanted to know; I make my money by affiliate marketing, creating websites, and blogging. I use all forms of traffic, including PPC, SEO and PPV.

    Just believe in yourself!

Thanks for sharing your inspiring story, Peter. Many people are looking for the quick and easy riches, but I've never personally known anyone who has made money overnight in IM. You only hear about these 'stories' on well-crafted sales letters that are designed to con the gullible people among us, but in reality it takes sheer focus and lots of blood, sweat and tears in addition to sleepless nights in order to really make it in IM. You really have to believe in what you're doing, and be prepared to sacrifice your friends (if necessary) and time in order to see this come to fruition.

This is a good story. No one can MAKE you succeed. It's something you have to either NEED DESPERATELY or WANT BADLY. My mother hounded me for quite awhile when my wife got fired and started up her freelancing work. She claimed it would never work and we both needed to set up child care for the wee ones and go get jobs flipping burgers or working at Wal-Mart or something "secure". As if. The last time she visited us, she didn't say anything. She now knows we clear $600 a week from one client alone and then half again that for the other projects we do. We are building our savings up as quickly as we can in case something falls out, but I think we're solid now. The next step is to break the next glass ceiling and hire more people to work on our team. Once we do that, we can start taking on new clients again, pass the work around, and grow to the next glass ceiling. Then break through it, too!

I know that situation but in my case it hase been a part of my family and not my friends who tryed to talk me out online marketing and building my on business.
I am someone who loves sharing new exciting things and that kind of got into face of my parents.
But I know that nobody cane stop me except myself and I still have a strong feeling in my belly about achieving my goals and making working location independet possible fore me.
Never give up and you will se the big picture fore me it is all about learning and mastering the basic skills like market research building a blog and driving traffic to it.
It is simple but not easy.

To me the best revenge wasn't showing people how much I made, it was the people coming to me, humbled, asking for a favor. And instead of shoving it in their face, I helped them, because there is no better revenge than to have the means to help those who ridiculed you, and have them come before you, humbled.

I'm glad to see so many like-minded people here. It's definitely motivational to know that you are not alone in your pursuit of freedom that an online income can provide.

I would take it even a step further. You have to need it.

Thank you for sharing the story

It is amazing how when you decide to go against the the norm everybody all of a sudden seems to resist

You would think that parents and family and friends would admire your courage and help you every step of the way but they often the ones that tease you about and tell you to get a "proper job" when people are being made redundant left right and center

I had a personal experience with my visa when i could not work during my appeal and i knew that if the internet made me money everyday i wouldn't be working in a factory and looking older 5 years older than my real age .

I am glad that i made that decision

Everybody need to decide what they want to do .if they want to leave their income in somebody elses hand( People are mostly selfish , most times when your income is in somebody elses hand , you are subject to their agenda ) or if they want to trust in your ability have that sorted out yourself

Anybody that does not believe in what I am doing would see less and less of me . There are people you would spend 2 hours with and there are people who you spend 5 minutes

You are choosing everyday . Spend time with people who believe in you . With people who would help you get to where you need to be

I think this applies to all entrepreneurs before you start making good money and even when you do people consider it "unstable".

The fact is once you've learnt about SEO, PPC and Social Media, if your entire business died, you could get a decent job in most countries if you are desperate.

Most people are too scared to go at it on their own, it's risky and takes a lot of effort and there's no one to blame except yourself if you fail.

You only fail when you give up though.`

    Never say never.

If I fall, I'll get back up and do it again. I grew up poor, so I have nothing to lose. I know the bottom, I know the top.

    Thanks for this Skorpion

Congratulations on your success and determination to do it no matter what.

Knowing your "why" seems to be the driving force to success. I've often read that people will work for years to become an "overnight" success.

      Good for you!
