Can you help please?

I'm trying to figure out which emotion ( energy in motion) have the strongest effect on our life....... The negative or postive

Have you ever feel this in the morning?
One Morning You Feel fresh and jump early out the bed ready for the day happy, when feeling positive

Another day you don't feel to get through the day the negative feeling ..almost like you don't know what hit you ...You just feel nothing..OUT OF CONTROL

Which emotion have the Strongest Effect?

Thanks
Gino

    Hi Gino,

Whichever emotion you lend the most power to

Both emotions can feel overpowering when focused on. Some say positive emotions are stronger than negative; this becomes true for them. Others believe in the opposite school of thought, creating that reality for them.

No matter what, your beliefs rule. Whatever you place your attention on expands.

I've been studying personal development now for over a year. In fact, it's what my blog is all about.

One of the resounding things that has been very subtle but pervasive among great teachers (e.g. Stephen Covey, Zig Ziglar, Robbins, et al) that I have picked up is that our emotions and how we act are completely separate -- if we make that choice.

For instance, Covey talks about the gap between stimulus and response. That gap is where we choose. Whether you wake up feeling great or anergic and downtrodden you can choose how you want to react. In the past, I made the mistake of thinking this was easy, and I should feel like doing XYZ before beginning XYZ.

Now, that is where Zig Ziglar points out that the motivation follows the act. Here's a guy who was an underachiever into his early to mid 40's. He turns it around and leads his sales force in practically no time. Why? I don't think it was because energy usually picks up in your mid 40s. It's because somewhere in his mind he started thinking and choosing to behave differently.

The strongest emotions can drastically change our lives, but the beautiful part is that you can dramatically change your life one step at a time, whether you feel like a go-getter or a maybe-later.

The one which has the strongest effect is the one you choose. I agree with RyanBiddulph. If you know that you are always at choice, then you can choose to give energy to that negative feeling or you can choose to acknowledge it and do something to change your physical state to one of a higher or happier vibration. Just smiling can raise your energy, listen to a favorite song, read some inspirational quotes. Whatever works for you to raise your vibration.

Thats an interesting point that gives me flashbacks of my psychology classes in college...eeek

There is a weird dynamic between our emotions and our actions. They influence each other in ways that influence how we act and react, but at the end of the day, our personal choice trumps all. The trick is having the emotional intelligence to recognize and understand our emotions and the equally difficult part of training our responses to those emotions.

I don't know how it works but I think negative has the strongest effect. Maybe the reason is that we are positive. So, positive easily attracts negative.

Hey, someone just whispered to me that the reason why negative seems to be the strongest is because we easily think negative.

    I agree with this!

I think it is human nature for Negative Emotions to have the Strongest Effect.

However, just like you can curb your bad habits and thoughts, you can also control your mind to chose which emotions motivate you more.

Once you have a different outlook of life than normal people, you can make the Positive Emotions have the stronger effect in your life.

I'd say positive, because it acts in a different way.

Negative emotions may seem stronger, and they are easier to experience. It's easier to become sad, angry or bored, rather than happy, energetic and calm. There's always something to worry about, always something that doesn't work, something to complain of.

However, you don't like to dwell on your negative emotions and experiences. We all try to forget them, to push them further and further away, to concentrate on something good. And the emotions and events we like to remember and tell friends about — they're mostly positive. It's our memory luggage, our treasures that we try to keep at all times.

So, answering your questions: negative emotions affect you, like, 'now and here'. Positive emotions may be harder to experience, but they remain with you, they're the ones you keep, the ones you seek. So they have a long-lasting effect, the one that is with you forever.

Well, it's just my opinion, but hope it helps.

Think about your thoughts. Your thoughts you have been thinking gave you your emotion, happy or sad. They say One positive thought, is much more powerful than the negative thoughts. & if you are feeling down, do something immediately to make you feel good! Not that hard, put on your favourite music, do some exercise, pet your pet, whatever it is to make you feel good! One good thought leads to another, and your mood will improve. Don't give any attention to so called bad thoughts, think good thoughts!

    Interesting question Gino...

If we're talking about positive/negative emotion motivating you to do something... or the opposite where you become demotivated ...then I'd say the answer to the question is "it depends".

A strong positive emotion can propel you to do great things, but so can a powerful negative one. In 2007 I lost a lot of money due to the shenanigans of a business associate, the emotions I felt at the time were negative ...yet VERY motivating. Those negatives forced me to reconsider so many aspects of my life and business, considerations which I may never have taken had I decided to simply say "oh well, win some, lose some"

...and that ultimately lead to a turnaround for me which changed my life for the better in a BIG way.

In NLP there is this idea of 'towards' and 'away from' motivation where sometimes we are pulled towards an achievement or gain... and other times we are pushed away from pain, loss, hardship, etc...

(and of course, there are many times when there is a bit of each)

Both the push and the pull take us in the same direction, so the question is only where we focus in order to create that momentum.

To say that one is better than the other (the typical misnomer being 'towards' is better than "away from") would betray the successes of many of the world's greatest business people who started by saying "I've been poor, I will never be that way again" ...which is clearly away from motivation.

So again the answer would be - Do/use what works for you.

As a quick addition - Let me close with another piece of NLP...

Use both 'towards' and 'away from' motivation to create (what is often called) a 'propulsion machine' ...so you are both pushed and pulled simultaneously. The effect can be quite awesome!

(oh, and as a nice side comment..... that strategy works INCREDIBLY well in sales too... whether face-to-face or sales copy!)

    All the best,

    Michael
