Competition Is a Curse

Hey Ryan, I had been wanting to ask you about "creation" vs "competition" for awhile now, as I remember you brought the concept up in regards to what Dr. Wallace D. Wattle's said in his book, "The Science of Getting Rich"...

As far as "SEO" and building backlinks is concerned, how could we solely be a "creator" without being a "competitor" and taking the top spots in the search engines, bro'? Please help me to understand how the concept of being a "creator" would help those of us out who are trying to rank in Google...

What brings you to the top of google? Your creative ideas, which have nothing to do with anybody else in your niche. You may pick up ideas from others but it's your unique twist on these plans which create the most effective results. What they do has nothing to do with what you do, IF you're creative enough and pay your co-creators no mind.

You control your thoughts, and each of these thoughts can be tension-free, creative and innovative ideas which never focus on beating anybody else. Since there's no shortage of anything - we deal with Invisible Supply - how can you be "against" anyone?

I don't think that competition is a curse. The fact is that it really exists. Then the truth is that you can overcome it.

Hey, I forgot to add that it may be a curse if you accept that you can't overcome it.

I think I get what you're driving at: the greatest challenge is self-improvement, regardless of what your "competitors" are doing. The element of competition shouldn't distract you from achieving your most important goal-that of improving, win or lose.

If you're already the fastest runner by far, winning a marathon might disappoint you if you didn't improve your own time, whereas the last-place runner might be delighted, because they cut 20 seconds off their own previous record.

But I wouldn't agree with calling competition a curse, or denying it exists between people-apparently it's a part of being human. In other words, as social animals, we love to imitate each other, and see if we can do things "better" than other people who try. We all like and want attention, and other people find it immensely entertaining to compare one person to another as fans-hence competing at a high level gets you a ton of what we all want.

The key question in my mind is whether your attitude makes competition an asset or a curse. I think many people find it a curse some or all of the time, to the degree that they feel out of their depth, possibly too intimidated to go up against someone they think (perhaps correctly), will "have them for lunch". In my opinion, we should all embrace the concept that "getting your as* kicked" is one of the most exhilarating experiences available, since you get much more self-improvement out of the experience than you would by kicking someone else's as*.

If there is too much difference in ability/talent/assets, we find great value in dividing any competitive field into "leagues", with people competing with others of a similar skill level, or size, or whatever; rather than the Cosmo Kramer approach: EG-when he dove into the world of martial arts, and quickly became a force to be reckoned with-because he was beating up 10 year olds.

Competition can either make people focus and work harder, or distract them from what's really important. It's all about framing your goals correctly and working on them.

I think a healthy outlook on competition is needed, but i definitely think competition is real, but we need to focus on improving our self more than focusing on the competition

Exactly, I don't believe in competition because the reality is that you can only improve your life when you decide to compete against self. Negative, jealous, angry self must be conquered.

Competition made us the strong, better people that we are today. We had to compete to survive.. without it we would still be pillaging and eating salad every day.

Exactly, ryan. The greatest illusion of the "appearance-driven world" is that this is a Zero Sum universe. (In order for me to win, someone else must lost. In order for me to increase, someone else must diminish.) It is not a Zero Sum universe. It is precisely because of Creativity that many can win and rise to the top.
The best value of competition is that which comes from outside. It hones us, expands us, forces us to improve, ideally through our own Integrity, Creativity and Vision of Excellence.
