5 Years into IM - Life is Awesome! It wasn't always that way...

I make my living online, I travel the world, my business is expanding and I enjoy my job.

I'm currently living on an island in the sunshine and working from my laptop.

This year I hit a target of exceeding 1 million page views per month to my websites on a regular basis (not just a one off).

It wasn't always this way...

I went from being on unemployment benefits to building an online business that has allowed me to travel the world.

BUT Don't be fooled into thinking an online business is easy.

There are some quick successes, but for most it is not that way. It took me a good 3 years to develop a stable income that I could live on.

Admittedly that's slow and if I had a better mindset to start with I would have done it a lot quicker.

When I started I had a different mindset and I made a lot of mistakes. I did have one key quality that helped me pull through which was persistence.

70-90 hour average work weeks (often working 7 days a week), and years of trying I finally started to pull things together and also break bad deadly habits.

There's a reason Why Some Make $5000+ a Month & Some Make Barely Anything.

So if you really want to make a living online (and you have to really want it - if its just a way for you to make quick cash and your passion lies elsewhere you would be best following your passion, or at least mixing your passion with your online business), then be prepared to stick it out for the long haul.

Be focused and be persistent!

Highly motivational! Consistency and persistence...those are the words to live by in my opinion. Oh, and a tough skin doesn't hurt either :-)

Thanks for this post - it's great to read that persistence does pay off. And sometimes things may not seem like they're going in the right direction, but imagine if you had given up two years ago? Sounds like you're living the kind of life you want, and that's great.

Nice Work Chris Tew! If a little elbow grease is good, lots must be better right?

It's a bummer to think how many must have quit just a little too soon. I'm sure you had lots of times when you were frustrated and considered packing it in...I know I have.

High fives to you for sticking with it.

I saw success much faster than you did but I agree, too many people go into IM with get rich quick mindsets which prevents them from building anything stable and sustainable.

Approach it like a business. If you want to make a million bucks online, put as much work into it as you would growing a million dollar offline business.

    Thanks for the share buddy

Good point... for some reason people think making money on the net is like a lotto...

but then again, most people think millionaires are made by winning the lotto!

Agreed. When somebody comes to me and says, "why haven't I made six figured yet?" the first thing I always reply back is...

"did you put in $100,000 worth of work, dedication, time, etc?"

    Wow Chris,

A very inspiring post even though its short. The picture you painted in my mind (relaxing under the sun and making money from anywhere in the world) really put some fire back in my belly.

Congrats and really admire your success. I'll work at it too.

    Thanks for sharing mate

Good insightful post, nice to know they are marketers out there that really are making it well in the IM space. What part of IM do you strategize and dominate, curious to know.

Well I use blogging as a platform, but I am trying to have my sites look less like a blog and more like an online magazine and resource sites.

Really its just about quality content, providing value, viral marketing and real editorial citations, good on page SEO, targeting high value traffic and monetizing it properly.
