Opportunity Dismissers

How often do you dismiss opportunities which you might feel uncomfortable pursuing?

I still have to watch myself these days. Sometimes I see something which I perceive to be "too good to be true", or I just plan don't think that I could pull it off, or I wrongly think the opportunity won't lead anywhere, and I dismiss it.

Be discerning but be open-minded and do some pondering when presented with opportunities.

So how are you doing in the opportunity department?

    Hi Ryan

I think we could look at every opportunity and every option that
comes along and talk ourselves into not doing it,but for me if it fits in and around what I am doing then I go for it every time, some don't work out but so what the rewards you get from the ones that do far out way the ones that don't.

It's a two-edged sword. I myself would never consider much from anyone
or anything that had no rep. But then, that's why those clowns from
Nigeria make money. They find suckers.

Better to be safe than sorry.

In the IM world, you NEED to be skeptical.

Shoot, I just read John Elway lost $15 million to some ponzi.
His lawyer is hard at work trying to get some of it back.
It's a big story. Google it if you wish.

Even some people on the WF have recently turned to the dark side.
Be sure you know who you are dealing with.

Think of it as being a "scam dismisser."

If you do see an opportunity that you are interested in you need to use your critical thinking skills. In addition, if you see an opportunity that you are interested in you can start and test small.

Good feedback. Scams seem to find people who seek them out, wanting something for nothing, or those folks who are afraid of being scammed always seem to be scammed.

This is because what you fear follows you around like a little puppy. See the opportunity in everything, be discerning, and move forward.

Good grief, Ryan. Always a pleasure. But seriously, do you just sit around all day thinking of these amazing posts to start? :-)

Discernment is a vital human skill. It's Biblical even, as I'm sure you know.

Opportunity, yes. But the opportunity that comes to me Where I Am.... Otherwise, it's a scam. (Maybe a bit overstated... but we all have to draw lines and be "discerning." Right?)

That's a question I've never seen before, yet we ALL
face in making decisions on "what direction to take".

After all, it IS possible to waste your time pursuing
things that can lead to "no where", and it's equally
possible to pursue things that lead to wealth on the
    first shot.

How often do you dismiss opportunities which you
    might feel uncomfortable pursuing?

    Very, very, VERY often.

It's not so much as an uncomfortable feeling, as it is
using my experience, knowledge, and plain ol' feelings
to determine what will guide me to where I want to
    go the FASTEST.

I'm sure I've dismissed hundreds of opportunities with
out even giving it more than a few seconds based on
the combination in the previous paragraph.

So how are you doing in the opportunity department?

I'm very good. I was very bad when I started. I feel
for all kinds of implausible schemes that APPEARED
plausible to me, at the time. But I LEARNED from my
mistakes, read a few books, learned from other ppls
experiences and learned the art of discernment.

What I've learned is that it's just as easy to say "oh,
that's just TO good to be true", as it is to say "Oh, it
SOUNDS to good to be true...but something tells me
it's an opportunity worth pursuing because it IS true".

A recent example is my business with Direct Mail.

For almost ANYBODY in this forum, it sounds almost
like a fairy tale to have access to millions and millions
of BUYERS you can have INSTANT contact with, with
just a simple postcard or letter.

The IDEA that you can make $1000-$10,000 per DAY
by making 2 or 3 phone calls to set up a mailing to go
out the next day and get results within a week on less
than a half-hour of work (making the phone calls) is
an example of someones mindset triggering the "too
    good to be true" mindset.

In fact, it was for ME when I learned of direct mail a
year ago...and ignored it for those reasons.

It wasn't until I grew as a marketer that I came to
understand...that nothing at all about making money
that FAST in such little time is "too good to be true".

It took TIME for me to take off my blinders and see
the opportunity as a REAL opportunity that MANY ppl,
even on this forum, will miss because it's easier to
believe "it takes HARD WORK to make $1000 a day".

In fact, most people think I pull their legs when I tell
them how much I make and STILL make a decision not
to believe me...cutting THEMSELVES off from the real
opportunity of learning it from me...if they only "ask
    how".

So, the "to good to be true" mentality DOES have it's
advantages, but it can cause you to miss opportunities
that are as true as it looks, and you wouldn't even
    "know it".

It's tough to measure, and even still I can't figure it out

I would say you would have to be very discerning, especially in IM.

There are just so many opportunities, i say pick one, evaluate and then go for it
