Who reveals their income?

Interesting question. I have always been extremely private about how much I make, even when I wasn't making anything. Others are more free about sharing. So...

Does you husband/wife know your income?

Does your girlfriend/boyfriend know your income?

Do your kids/parents know your income?

I'm not interested to hear how much everybody is making, just want to know who reveals it to others

Does you husband/wife know your income?

That's not a secret you keep from a spouse in my opinion.

Does your girlfriend/boyfriend know your income?

    Nope

Do your kids/parents know your income?

    Kids, yes -- Parent, no

No spouse here, but she would know, yes.
Girlfriend knows, but just in general, not exact amounts.
Parents do not. Kids will, when they're old enough to learn about money. I've never liked how kids are told, "We don't have money for that!" when they know there's money for other things. In my opinion, they're not being taught the value of a budget or prioritized spending, only the ridiculous "value" of money.

Interesting...you both would tell your kids but not parent. Not disagreeing, just surprised.

I think it is a sensitive issue . People want their respect, and the more money you earn the more respect people tend to give you. I have always been curious and open about what I earn . I found it strange that my friend refuse to say the exact figure they are earning and I have to squeeze the top end of their income out of them

I think most people don't reveal their income for reasons

1.You earn too little and you are embarrass to share that information

      2. You earn too much and you don't others to feel insecure and to protect their income (if the wife knows exactly how much you earn , she may already have plans for the money even before you earn it .lol)

If you are in the middle you can pretty share because you are just like everybody else

I would share my income with everybody that needs to know .

Although I am open ,I wouldn't divulge to just anyone

So my wife (a rough estimate ... so , she doesn't help me spend everything :p)
      My parents (exact figure )
My close friends (exact figure )
My brother (does not need to know)
Just any friend or anyone ( the answer is no )

Just my take on this .Of course , I could be wrong

Wife - She manages the money, so she knows all.
Kids - Always tell them I'm broke and then offer to buy supper. (Two are grown, two are too young to ask.)
Parents - Nope, they just ask if things are "ok".
Friends - Nope, not really any of their business.
Former Co-Workers - They ask all the time, I just smile and say "I'm not working for someone else any more, am I?"

Parents - ballpark - I don't mind sharing exact amounts but they would forget
      Kids - don't have any
Friends - my best friend has a pretty good idea although not exact figures, but no other friend

I think that's an age function. If you are in your 20s or younger you may still have something to "prove" to your parents and may want them to know how much you earn. At that point, they are your nuclear family.

Well said. And I dont think a lot of parents ask when you get older because they dont really care. As long as you are doing okay and are a good person, thats all they care about!

I tell my income to my relatives and girlfriend, but never the exact amount. The online business itself is a field where nothing is ever fully expectable/guaranteed. One day you make $1k and then for a whole week your making nothing!

Also I would like to say that usually when people are bragging to much about their 'earnings' there not really earning it, but just dreaming they were!

wife - yes - but she only remembers the net.

kids - yes somewhat - even though I shouldnt because they ask for alot more, and they are usually expensive requests, with one grown having her own major expenses. (I should really try harder to make them earn it by learning my biz, I tell her to inspire her though, maybe later it will sink in)

    Friends - some
Parents - they never ask. just want me to be doing well.

Collegues - somewhat - because I have earned some bragging rights, and thats one of the rewards of success.

About 2 to 4 years ago amongst the internet marketing fraternity it was common practice to post/ upload earnings online.
I believe there is a gradual move away from this practice, here in the UK, which I believe is a good thing.

Hehe...yeah I'm a little more private myself. Besides my close friends, most people think I'm doing well and just know I do something on the internet. Most think I do adult entertainment...and it probably doesnt help that I run with it sometimes...its funny until people tell other people and word gets out that you might be running a porn ring in your house haha

And you know what...if your a bachelor, trust me on this -- it'll get
you laid like a pornstar. For a man, it creates intrigue, curiousity, &
intrestst among other women because it' is ASSUMED you know how
      to perform.

Unfortunately, it's the opposite reaction for female pornstars. But as
a guy, running with it is NOT a bad thing especially when women get
word that you may or may not be in the porn business. It all depends
on how comfortable you are with playing that role, because everybody
has that "pornstar" in them they want to unleash.

As far who I reveal my income to (like that segway? lol).

I reveal...to no one, EXCEPT occasionally my mother when I've hit a
milestone financially. Other close family members and friends try to
get me to talk sometimes, but I don't budge anymore.

It DOES lead to jealous feelings, animosity, and doubt in themselves
you thought was mean to inspire. So, I let my lifestyle do the talking
      and keep all financials secret.

Many times I DO want to tell people how much I make to give me as
an example that it's possible, but you can be seen as a bragster, a
wannabe, a spoiled brat, or some other negative reaction or thought
many people have of people with money.

Doesn't your lifestyle give you up? How do you hide a toy hauler? The pool house and basketball court? Your house - is it behind gates? What you drive, if you even drive. Where you shop, eat and who you associate with?

People don't have to ask - they assume - usually wrong but they always think they know. Making a lot of money doesn't mean you have a lot of cash. It gets complicated and if you tell them they don't believe you anyway.

What's normal everyday living to you is not always the same to everyone else. The people who ASK are the ones who want to see what you'll say - see if you're going to lie or not.

If you're making bigger amounts, I wouldnt preffer to say that. So far,

Friends: some yes, but not exactly
    Parents: no
    Brother: not exactly
    Internet buddies: yes

Whole thing is tricky, if you're saving for something and you need the money, and people know - they will always ask you loan if they need it. Thats ok, but if you need to wait them longer then expected, that can mess your plans.

For me it's on a need to know basis.

My spouse knows as we share our income, home, expenses, everything...

The only other people who are privy to that information is my accountant and his employees (to them I'm just another client).

The kids don't need to know - they just know we're "billionaires"! he he
