The Million Dollar Product

Yes. Here's another headline to get you to click through. I love you all's opinions though.
If this could be bottled up and put into in eBook, audio, or CamStudio program it could easily be worth a million dollars to the recipient (who knows what it could be sold for).
It might as well be called "unobtanium" like the mineral in the movie Avatar. Because just like in the movie, it's not something that you can just acquire.

What I'm talking about is work ethic. Whether you call it self-starting, hustle, grind, go-getting, etc....you can't buy it. This is very unfortunate because, through what I have learned so far in my tiny career in IM, it is the one thing that appears to be indispensable regardless of your business model.

It can't be outsourced.

I believe you can start making money on a part-time basis. You can start learning how to market online as a hobby. But I NEVER made a dime while treating it as one. I've had to motivate myself and get it going.

I bought a great training program and learned a lot from it. I'm sure he has probably received some refund requests because, even though he shows you exactly how to make money, there are little nuances you have to figure out on your own.

Maybe that's why a lot of us flock to coaching. We want someone to just tell us what do and treat us like an employee. I couldn't believe how hard I worked for someone else (in my case the Army) and how lazy, at times, I'd been working for myself.

I'm going to wrap this up. I know IM'ers have short attention spans

Maybe you guys are right that us newbies need to embrace an abundance mentality. That could help some of us get away from the excuse that gurus take all the sales/clients.
Perhaps we need a slight desperation mentality as well. If there was a desire to succeed like a drowning man desires to breathe, many more would make it.

Hopefully, every day I become more "desperate for air".

    Very nice post Christopher. Well-played click-bait :p

Something I've often heard from the more successful IM'ers :

If your WHY is big enough [if your reason is good enough] you won't quit and you have no option BUT to succeed.

If you WHY is just to get some extra money, then you;re pretty much sunk from the get-go. But if your WHY is to secure something for the future of your children, then you're going to succeed, despite your own best efforts to stop yourself.

I do not have a short attention... HEY, LOOK, A KITTY!

Okay I clicked through. I am always curious when some one makes a big statement--that's one of the secrets to great copywriting that you seem to know instinctively.

But you are right. Work ethic, focus and utter joy at the prospect of doing this type of work is essential. You can't buy that and frankly I don't know that you can really coach someone there. I think you have to be born with a sense of adventure and curiosity and as an adult be willing to try something that feels awkward at first.

It's all in your focus and your thoughts.

It's not rocket science! And it is why 99% of those who try fail. They are sold "easy" when in fact "easy" is all relative. The steps are easy, the amount of effort to perform those steps is not.

It is a testament to our society. Those who succeed "do" those who fail "don't"!

    I_christopher,

    You're right.

Here's what I've learned from coaching people for the last 20 years.

I can't do it for them.

BUT, in most people's defense...they have a lack of education...it isn't taught in schools, few teach it at home to their children...but the way to overcome a poor work ethic is

    to have a PLAN.

Now, here's the problem with a PLAN. The vast majority don't know HOW to put a motivating plan together.

It has to start with the WHY, not the WANT.

And to build a good plan a person has to THINK...another stumbling block for many.

And the "final ingredient" is, the one that all the Goal Setting Gurus leave out is...

YOU must know both your inherited weaknesses, and the ones you were taught as a child...if you don't confront this little 9 year old child inside of you making decisions, you are doomed from the get go because old habits, the path of least resistance is the default FALL BACK, retreat position.

KNOW what you want. WHY. What are the steps to get there, the amount of time, the environmental factors, the genetic and the young view factors (what you saw as a child and were taught, perhaps even subconsciously).

ONCE a student can work out the WHY for the goal (about 30 days) and put the PLAN in front of them to see everyday...they stand a much higher chance of achieving the goal.

If a person knows they do not have a good history of work ethic, then they need to have a plan and UNDERSTAND it in great detail.

Unfortunately many are lured into Internet Marketing as well as Network Marketing under the impression of the "completely automated" "quick, fast, easy" "any 12 year old can do it" "just tell 2 people and build an empire" false hook.

What they fail to understand it takes HARD WORK and KNOW-HOW to get to that point first ;-)

But this is the issue though...

Most people know how to work hard. If they're a janitor, McDonald's "team" member, or a soldier like me, you've had to work hard before.

That's not the issue. Many people just can't work hard for themselves. Like push themselves for themselves. They need that WHY...and that comes in the form of a boss for employees, a commanding officer (or risk of life) for soldiers, or kids for you parents.

I also heard of a study where children of entrepreneurs are likely to be entrepreneurs and children of employees do that. Maybe there has to be a de-programming period?

I think that my being unmarried without children is handicapping my IM career. What do you guys think lol?

I do agree. The internet marketing game can be tough and will take some passion. I think it is harder then most people think.

The only million dollar makers out there are doing things they love. The million dollar IMers out there that own and sell the products you buy love the niche they are in and work diligently to be the masters of that craft.

Lets name a few. Ok, lets go big, Frank Kern...Sure he has made money in a lot of markets and niches, but he positioned himself as an expert in any area he has sold. But at the end of the day he is an expert in launching products, selling via email and copy-writing. But he is an expert in something.

Mike Filsame is an expert in affiliate marketing. Steve pavlina is an expert in personal development, Dan Kennedy is an expert in copywriting and direct response. You can go on and on. They all use the internet to market themselves and their products, but they are experts who offer their expertise to business owners who have problems in their areas of expertise.

The big misconception on the IM world, which is why so many people struggle to ever make any money, is internet marketing in and of itself is not a business. It is a marketing medium. No different than TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc.

The lure to IM is the passive income and lifestyle etc. But what people really want is their own business, that they control, that can offer the income to support the freedom of lifestyle they desire.

Starting a business is about being of service to society with your own personal gifts. What service do you provide to solve peoples problems? or what Product do you provide that solve a specific problem? Thats what business's do. Provide service or product that solves problems in the market they target.

People that are successful using online marketing have a business product or service they offer and use the internet to get the message out in all the ways you already know of. The millions come from the expertise that they dedicate their life to in the name of helping their market solve problems. You get paid the equivalent to the amount of value you provide to society and nothing more.

I Love internet marketing, but I sell a service. I use internet marketing strategies to generate leads, but I also use print, direct mail, partnerships, cross promotions, affiliates, and referals to drive leads.

Every successful "internet marketer" has a specific expertise and business model that they use to generate leads, convert sales and service clients. The opportunities really are endless. Starting a business starts from the inside out. Finding that which you were put on this earth to do and provide that to people, will lead you to your million dollars in revenue. Anything else is just unfocused confusion, which is what most are feeling in their internet "business".

I love the passion and drive everyone here on this forum has. This forum represents the next generation of small business owners that will carry our great country to more heights. My mission is to guide the desire and energy of these passionate people to a more productive and profitable horizon, instead of the endless uncertainty, doubt and confusion.

Every million dollar business starts from the passion of its founder in an area of expertise.

Yeah this was the message i got from a story on Socrates when some body went to him to ask for the secret of the success.I agree with you that unless there is some amount of eagerness and desperation for the success,we will never go after it with the passion and intensity that is so urgently required.
