That Feeling of "I Made It"

Everybody has different goals and aspirations in life and therefore success means very different things to each person. For most people, to be "successful" in the broadest sense, a host of different things must be achieved. Perhaps success to you is having children who are grown up to be good people and pursuing philanthropic endeavors like starting a non-profit, and owning a company. Or perhaps success to you simply means owning that Lamborghini you always wanted. Success means different things to different people.

Now this is an exercise somebody had me do a while ago, and it was a million times tougher than I had originally thought. It goes like this...

Imagine yourself in the future. If you were to take a snapshot photo of yourself at a time where you can stand up tall and say "I made it" or "I did it", what would that snapshot photo look like? To the best of your ability, what would the photo of yourself as a "success" look like?

Maybe it's you standing outside at a park teaching your grandson how to fish with your family all smiling in the background. Maybe the best snapshot of success to you is standing outside that building with your name on it...a successful company you built from nothing and turned into a multi-million dollar enterprise in the background.

What does YOUR snapshot look like?

Hope this exercise helps people determine what is REALLY important in life

I thought twice before I actually wrote anything down. At first I thought, of course success, I see myself sitting at the top floor of my building, the empire I created. Though, I have a good amount of money, I have my house, my cars.

Then I thought again, I want happiness. When I feel "I made it", I think it will be when I have the right mindset, my family is growing, love is in the right places, I've made smart choices, and am just satisfied where I am, and not chasing down dreams, but setting in in my own dream.

I was wondering how many people would go the material success route versus the non-material success route and how many people's snapshot would be a hybrid of both.

Short term: taking down allpennystocks.com for the top authority site in my keyword. EAT IT ALL PENNY STOCKS GUY!

Mid term: owning 5-10 profitable authority sites each making 50-100 dollars a day

I think it is important to see who you are becoming so you can step into it .

What would that I made it moment be like ? How would you dress?

Who would you be hanging out with?

And just reliving that experience in your mind so much so that it naturally happens in the real world

Or you could create a movie of your ideal life and take pictures of all those things you want to do and be and watch them a video of them everyday

When you watch the video of the pictures of yourself doing what you only dreamed about it is really powerful

Watch it everyday with the intention of creating that in that experience again real world

I just want to be happy at the core of my being. Material things vanish so fast, and new things come out everyday. Basically new things to "love" come out everyday.

I just want to love and be loved, be happy with what I have, and have the one I'm with, happy with what she has. I just want to smile without it having to be an effort

    Excellent technique Ken!

The emotions you experience when building and *feeling* the picture are what bring success to you. You attract the ideas, feeling, people and move into corresponding actions to make it come true. Wonderful how it works But you must build the picture first, and doing so can be challenging since not many engage in mental aerobics on a consistent basis.

    Thanks for sharing

Well, for me the material things have never been too much of a motivation. Not to say that material things are bad or not to be pursued its just their happiness inducing affects are short lived. Also, I believe that we never truly get to the "I finally made it" place because there is always something else that draws us to expand and grow.

With that said, my ideal that I am currently shooting for is time freedom, location independence, and financial independence through Forex and niche sites online. I imagine not a feeling of relaxation and boredom but of adventure and discovering what life has to offer.

In my ideal vision I live my life on my own terms and not to satisfy other peoples desires for me. Clarity of mind also comes into play.

I guess to me its more a state of mind that I will achieve rather than something I can put on display for everyone else, even though that may be a part of it as well.

It's not something I take pride in or brag about...but on many many many times people come up to me randomly and tell me I look like Rocky.

Well, I reached my first adsense goal a few weeks ago.
I am currently making enough money to travel south east Asia with just my netbook and a backpack. I am leaving my home in Europe for 6 months in January, since I got into IM a few months ago this has always been my dream. Complete financial freedom, the ability to work anywhere I want.

Now all I have to do is scale things up, keep on driving forward. The amount of SEO i have learnt while doing things has made me quite profficient, I hope to start my own SEO company next month.

I hope at the end of my holiday, after countless hours of building micro niche websites on the shores of Cambodia, I can refresh my adsense account and see 100$ coming in every day

I have heard it say, that if your goal is to get out of debt, then you will always be in debt! But if your goal is to be financially independent, that works much better, focusing on wealth rather than the lack of it.

But, when I have that 'made it feeling', will be when I have that dream home, money and time to travel and do the things I love to do, and to share with others. I already have peace in my life through meditation, but the material side is lacking as I have never really focused on it. So, just need to balance things off!

This can be a difficult question because we often look to others as examples.Success means different things to different people. The reality is, success means whatever you want it to mean for you. Don't compare yourself with others and what they think success means. Believe it or not, you are already successful in many different ways. You just haven't taken the time to realize it yet.

I will feel I have made it when my main activity is not centered around making sure the financial needs of my family are met.... in other words the needs are met so well that I can focus on other things first.
Right now the main focus is make sure the month gets all before the money.
I guess that is material centered in a way but my goal is to get beyond that way of living. To get beyond that requires income coming from past efforts as apposed to working by the hour.
The comments in this thread about stuff coming and going and not lasting are exactly right. That "expensive new toy" will only make you feel you have "made it" for a short time. A great life will keep on giving you that feeling if you remember where you started and are grateful.

I see myself standing in a room made of solid gold, a huge pile of cocaine in front of me and 50 hookers... Just kidding.

I see myself and my fiance (my wife by then) and our two children at our beach house at sunset, standing on a balcony overlooking a beautiful view of the ocean. My laptop is inside sitting on the couch waiting for me to quickly check on my auto pilot income before we sit down to a huge seafood dinner.

My first thought was on a surf board riding a huge wave! I've never surfed in my life, so that is just part of my snapshot...the other part is being able to spend more "quality" time with friends and family, that would be great to me.
