"Home business success doesn't come as easy as most people would want you to believe. You might have heard "gurus" spit out stories similar to the one below...

"As my eyes open I can't help but gaze out my third story windows at the wonderful view of the snow topped mountain range. I walk downstairs to kiss my super-model wife and take a morning drive in my expensive sports car."

Many people want you to believe this is the average life of a home business entrepreneur, well I hate to crush your hopes and dreams, but this is rare. Many of us don't think about what really goes into building a successful home business.

Let me expose you to the truth

In the beginning, when you're first starting out in your home based business you MUST have a why. What is it now or in the future that gets you up in the morning? You must internalize this why and let it feed you every waking moment.

If you get discouraged ... be nourished by your why. Your why will get you through tough times and help you finally reach you goals in life.

You can't let money be your focus. Money is a tool to be used for greater purposes, it is not the end in mind. Your income is a direct relation to your contribution to the world. Yes by building a successful home based business you will in-turn generate money, but it should not be your focus. Money alone will not get you very far, turn your focus to something greater.

Once you've internalized your why you need to have significant drive and determination. One thing most internet millionaires wont tell you is they worked EVERY DAY, even when they didn't want to. There is nothing glamorous about sitting on your couch writing a blog post, oh but driving around in my Lamborghini is what people want to hear.

Well I can tell you I don't have a Lamborghini and don't really want one ... unless I find a used one (thanks Dave Ramsey). Don't be blinded by what you see ... remember this thing called logic, well I can tell you logically, NO ONE became a millionaire overnight. It takes a lot of work and determination.

The last thing I want to stress to you is become a student of life. Thats right, those days you thought "once I leave school I'm done learning" are now over. This means you should be reading on a daily basis. If you don't know where to begin start with Think and Grow Rich. This book will open your eyes.

Well I've given you a good road map for home business success, try not to get lost. Obviously there are other factors at play, but you will discover those through education and drive. We tend to over complicate things, which is why a majority of us don't reach our dreams.

Take this success thing one step at a time. Success is not an outcome, it's a journey.

Enjoy it!"

    Hello Joel,

Thanks for the reminder.I'm not materialistic--thus,I needed a higher goal than money to get me out of my bed.Without having an other-centered goal, having more money may accelerate one's failure (sounds ironic).

It's like a cliche, but,I became happier when I focused on what I love (WRITING)...and I can't complain about the moolah too.

You're right.I try to read THINK AND GROW RICH once a year.

    Thanks.

    Michael

"Success is not an outcome, it’s a journey"

So true! I think a lot of folks get into IM because they think its the fast-track to wealth. If you spent more time enjoying the ride instead of focusing on the finish line, you'll find that the trip is a LOT more enjoyable!
