Even though I tell people to check out Wallace Wattle I wouldn't
put him on a top ten list personally - his stuff is too vulnerable
      to ignorant, childish interpretation.

I'd put The Magic Of Thinking Big up there... and Psychocybernetics
near the top - both are practical guidebooks.

Also The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

The very first I ever read is still one of my favorites:
          M.R. Kopmeyer:
'How To Get Whatever You Want'
Really hard to get these days.
I had to order from a publishing house in india to get a new copy.

Others that really had an impact:
          Tony Robbins:
'Unlimited Power' & 'Awaken The Giant Within'

          Catherine Ponder:
'Pray And Grow Rich', one of the earliest books of new thought that actually teaches releasing stuff while others always ignored the topic and actually made you ignore what's bad in your life. She really deserves credit for understanding and presenting that topic. (Chapter 4)

          Eckhart Tolle:
          'A New Earth'
I've been working with that for a few months now.
I'd say nothing had a larger impact on changing myself than applying this.

Wow. What a great list of personal development books you have here. I have always enjoyed sitting down and reading a good personal development book.

When you read one you walk away feeling empowered and on top of the world. And so many times you take so much away from the book and are able to apply it to your daily lives and many times even your business.

I have read a handful of the book mentioned and have also put a few on them on my "Must Read", List.

            Thanks,

Most lists are great - you can't go wrong with any of them. We are different people with different issues - so some may be better for individuals.

I agree about Catherin Ponder - also someone disliked "Science of Growing Rich" by Wattle. I liked it very much.

A few other books and authors worth looking at:
Your money or your life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin
Books by Joseph Murphy and Charles Fillmore.
Books by Florence Scovel Shinn especially "The game of life and how to play it."

I don't think they are worthless. some people are not in the same place as you or me or trump. very few people in the world have been taught how to succeed.
in fact, most people in the 'civilized' western world have this syndrome called 'low self-esteem'. this syndrome is a byproduct of our capitalist society and division of social classes. it is encouraged by big business, and our education system. go to school, get a degree, get a job, retire when your life is spent and used, then live off of the generosity of your children, if your lucky. these books teach the things people didn't know they didn't know. and at a pace that they can handle.

I agree about " The Power of Your Subconscious Mind " - excellent book.

All other Law of Attraction authors follow each other - only think is there is no "Law of Attraction".

One of only three authors in this specific area to get it right is The Baron Eugene Fersen. Charles Haanel and a few others were students of his.

Science of Being in Twenty Seven Lessons stands alone as the ultimate work:

The first book that radically changed my mind about business was Wave 4: Network Marketing in the 21st Century by Richard Poe. That really got me thinking about residual income and creating systems to follow.

The ones that come quickly to my mind:

    Wave 4: Richard Poe
Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway: Susan Jeffers
    Power of Focus: Jack Canfield
    Cashflow Quadrant: Robert Kiyosaki
    One Minute Millionaire: Bob Allen
Who Moved My Cheese: Spencer Johnson

"Feel the Fear" is especially well-loved. I read that every other year or so...I find it helps me get through my own self-imposed hang-ups

    4. Psycho Cybernetics - Maxwell Maltz
    5. The Secret of Letting Go - Guy Finley

The book that's been the foundation for my reading of other self-help books is:

Boundaries: When to Say YES, When to Say NO, To Take Control of Your Life, by Henry Cloud and John Townsend

In my opinion other self-help topics can only go so far if you don't have a firm foundation in setting personal boundaries.

I read the title of this thread and the first thing I thought was richest man and there it is in your top 10 list. Although I have no idea how you can narrow down just top 10. You should have a top thousand.

    This is my personal opinion

Some that I have found useful...

-Poor Charlie's Almanack by Charlie Munger (Warren Buffett's partner). One of the top 10 books I've ever read in any subject.

A lot of people here like Robert Cialdini's book, Influence. One of the anecdote's in Poor Charlie's Almanack is that he gave Cialdini a share of berkshire hathaway (valued at $100 k) as a thank you for his book Influence. He found it that useful. Cialdini's models filled in some of the holes in Mungers system.

Munger also has a great reading list at the end, you'll be considered quite worldly if you go through them...

          Guns, Germs and Steel
          Wealth and Poverty of Nations
How the Scots Invented the Modern World (interesting book)
          Cialdini's Influence.
          and others.

-Anything by Jim Rogers. Great economic commentator. Probably the clearest and simplist explanation that you'll hear of whats going on in the world.

-Anything by Jay Abraham. Esp his program, "How to get from where you are to where you want to be"

Also a great political book I've read recently, by Mark Levin, "Liberty and Tyranny". Best book I've read that sums up where we are now as a country.

          My pleasure, Pink!

There's something about Neville's work that really resonates with me. His greatest foundational principle, in my opinion is to think "from" your goal rather than "of" it. It's "positioning" in essence and it's the key to getting your desires across to the subconscious mind.

Another classic from Neville Goddard is "The Law and The Promise". I'm sure you've read that one too, Pink. If not, be sure to add it to your reading list. Good stuff!

Here is the definitive guide to the best books in wealth creation:

        1. Goals! by Brian Tracy - a complete course on goal setting and goal achievement
        2. The Richest Man in Babylon - the foundation of money management
        3. Rich Dad, Poor Dad - any book on self help and wealth creation that does not include this book is immediately forfeit
        4. The 4 Hour Work Week - expand your mind to what's possible in wealth creation
        5. Crush It! - the audio version is incredible! If there was one audio book I was forced to listen to again and again, it would be Crush It!
        6. Maximum Achievement - also by Brian Tracy. If all of the convential wisdom of self help was condensed to one book, Maximum Achievement would be the result.
        7. A New Earth - non-judgement, non-attachment, non-resistance. A wonderful guide to finding peace.
        8. Anything by Pema Chodron - a Bhuddist nun. If you love Echart, Pema is a great extension of his voice.
        9. The Psychology of Influence - get your message across and move people to take action!
        10. The Well Fed Writer - don't think a career in writing copy is possible? You'll believe it after reading this funny insightful book.

One of the best courses I've ever heard about wealth creation was Jay Abraham's "Protege Mentor Training Course" from 1990.

He did a total of 6 courses from the fall of 89 to the spring of 1990. It comes with 48 tapes (or audio files). It's packed with information. Probably more information than from any other course I've heard. He also has Jim Cecil, Bob Morrison and Kendrick Cleveland. They cover sales, marketing, persuasion, confidence.

If you listened to the whole thing from start to finish, it's almost impossible not to succeed or make money. I think one of the problems with modern books, or courses (after say, 1997 or 2000) is that people want short answers, and they want these "quick fixes". Peoples attention spans were different and longer in 1990. I think you absorb more information and it processes deeper if you read a long book or course, vs a short one. 5 quick courses are not the same as one long one.

For fans of Jay, he tells his life story in the course. A lot of great stories. It shows where he got his knowledge from. It's an accumulate of many, many, many deals. Don't skip over those many, many deals.

For me hands down, Anthony Robbins. Not a book to recommend but an audio program (sometimes it's nice to take a break from books once in a while). I like his stuff because I find that he takes the best of the best of all the personal development books/courses and puts it into one nice package. The two course I like are:

Get the Edge (10 day program, a precursor to the PPII program below)
Personal Power II (This is a 30 day audio program)

And he truly is genuine, which I like. I attended one of his seminars and he said to all 3,000-ish people there how he didn't even care if you pirated his stuff (it didn't hurt him one iota financially) as long as it was making improvements to you and your life that's what mattered ... not that I'm recommending you do that of course.

I second the Science of Getting Rich. I turned someone on to it and they claim their friend really got rich.

I am reading The Path of Least Resistance by Robert Fritz and it is very good. It talks a lot about understanding true reality. Also, the Secret to Money is Having Some by Stuart Wilde, How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis and everything by Jiddu Krishnamurti, most of which is free on the net.

I have watched, read, and listened to so many self help movies, books, and audio programs like many others in this warrior forum. On of the things that is a common theme is your thoughts. It is said by Anthony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Bob Doyle, Jack Canfield, Wayne Dyer etc, and in "What The Bleep", "The Secret", The Celestine Prophecy etc.
I recently came across a audio program by Dr. Robert Anthony called "The Secret of Deliberate Creation". It is the most layman's way to explain what some call the law of attraction but is more like a users manual to the human mind. I have always been a skeptic and when things just seem to metaphysical I start to lose interest or view it as more entertainment not instructional. I would never recommend anything I do not feel justifies not only someone's money but more important their investment in time.
Everyone explains the same thing, just in their own style and this is like individual languages, understood and accepted by some but not by many.
"The Secret of Deliberate Creation" is so well explained and it is not like the title sounds. This really is the best explanation that I have ever heard allowing a full understanding of how our minds work and why we are the way we are and how we can change regardless of the situation. This is something I understood, accepted and tried and so amazed at my results. I would never promote anything I do not use and believe in. Find out more by clicking link 1banana2 below.

I know this will help many and best of luck to you all.
      Take care,
      Haslow

He's not really a personal development author, but Jim Rogers (financial author, commentor) is excellent.

-He explains things in clear, simple language. He has two main books, investment biker and adventure capitalist. About his trips around the world on a motorcycle. They're part travelogue, part lesson on global finance and investing. He saw a lot of these current problems in the US years ago. Investment Biker came out in 92 I think, and he was talking about a US collapse back then.

-And there's a bunch of his videos on youtube, good short synopsis of whats going on.

One of the best books I have read is 'Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do'.

When it come to personal development. The key is to get change in our life and experience different results. Maybe you will disagree with me, I found reading less and implement more is a better strategies. If we just keep reading but not taking any action, all the time we read and learn are wasted.

I suggest you find one book and keep reading it until you can master the tips or principle there. Develop your own system and taking action. then reading other books and get inspiration to improve your system.

My pick would be The Science of Getting Rich, by Wallace Wattles.

It's an old book, but it gets right down to the beliefs of what used to be called "New Thought"--an outgrowth of 19th-century philosophies that were way ahead of their time in considering thought to be the underlying element of the whole universe.

My #1 Book on Personal Development:

Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ
    - 1996 - by New York Times science writer PhD Daniel Goleman

This man is a genius and demonstrates that our emotions play a much greater role in thought, decision making and individual success than is commonly acknowledged. Wow!!!

If you want to learn how to master your emotions try Brainwave Entrainment and Self-Hypnosis. Both techniques are super effective for increasing your emotional intelligence IQ without much effort

I've been doing 1 hr session 4 times a week for 6 months now and I can notice a biiiiig difference in my mood.

  • The 2 books that got me started off when I was young punk at the polar opposite end of being a fan of personal development was Jim Rohn's "Seven Strategies For Wealth and Happiness," and "Notes From a Friend" by Tony Robbins.

For me the power of these books speaks to the fact that I was ANYTHING but interested in listening to old white guys telling me what to do... AND the message in these books STILL connected with me.

So now, whenever I meet someone who's a babe to the Personal Growth arena, these are the two books I put into their hands.

"Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Dynamite was a third book I got started with but since then, I've opted to steer people towards his lesser known, more awesome book, "Grow Rich With Peace of Mind".

Agree with everyone on the recomendations there.

Recently I read - Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Cashflow Quadrant which made me re think about the book I always recommend to people - Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I noticed some inconsistencies in his story. I wonder if anyone else has had these thoughts?, I have always spoken very highly of this book until now.

On another note about Self Help Books, remember - "Its not what you read, its what you do with the information after reading it"
How many times have you read an "amazing book" and then never put into action what you learned.

    Great thread!

It would have to be " Thinks and Grow Rich: Naopleon Hill".

But, you can't just think and be rich one day.

Action is the biggest piece missing from most self-improvement books and courses.

The question you must ask yourself is when will you take consistent action to reach your goals.

If you're not taking consistent action, it could be that your current position in life isn't painful enough. Pain is a motivator.

Currently reading and studying Science of Being In Twenty Seven Lessons by Eugene Fersen.

I have read a lot of self help books but something tells me a lot of them are based off from this book. It covers EVERY part of human development in the most complete way that I have seen so far. It's actually pretty incredible.

This is now my most favorite book of all time, not just for personal development, but for all books I have read so far. It is that good lol

I'm currently reading "The Mind Made Prison" by Mateo Tabatabai. The book goes into the topic of limiting beliefs and changing those limiting beliefs into something that will allow you to live a more healthier life. So far, it has been a great read and it forces you to really think about some of the things in your life that are holding you back from being the most powerful version of yourself.

Many of these books listed are my standby favourites. I still think Stephen Covey' s 7 Habits is my all time fav.

Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" was inspirational to me in so many ways. His stories and examples of hard work, values and beliefs that are created by our surroundings, that help to catapult the most unsuspected to success. It is a fun read as well as interesting.

Congratulations to everyone for sharing some fabulous material. I have added some new people to my must read list.

    My favorites are:

    Think and Grow Rich
Think Like a Billionaire Become a Billionaire
How To Impact and Influence Others

There are some others but I didn't want to write the wrong titles out. These books has been sitting in my house for years and I never knew what gems they were until my business community challenged everyone to listen to audios and read daily. So I started to realize what I had. These books carry hidden messages for myself, it is like every time I read these books I get something knew from them that I didn't get the first time I read them. Lovin' personal development.
