The Ability to Withstand Discomfort

I believe that success is basically how much discomfort you can stand! Yes, there are many other things that constitute this end result called success, but being able to withstand massive amounts of discomfort is a huge contributor.

I speak in front of people, I'm constantly doing videos, audio clips and even live conference calls on the net so I'm out there for people to criticize. I've gotten tons of feedback over the course of the last year and that feedback has given me one thing: expansion! I've grown so much from the calibration of the inevitable feedback life is going to deliver. I hold this element in my mind everyday so that when discomfort comes, I embrace it, use it as fuel and allow myself to derive the true power in it! It gets to the point where it starts to feel comfortable, to be uncomfortable. Make sense? It's incredible and it allows you to massively and consistently expand! This is one of the elemental factors in what I call the Elite. Thanks for reading everyone! Love your comments and posts!

I agree, my biggest problem is public speaking. It’s something I’m working on and need to overcome. Over the years I’ve gotten much better, but I use to be a mess. I hated talking to a group as small as 3 people if I didn’t know them.

But I’ve been pushing myself and each time becomes easier and I’m still alive so it cannot be too bad then…

      I believe you're right...

In order to succeed you have to in a way be able to cope with discomfort in one way or another but I in a way disagree with this theory...

I've noticed that successful people have inner and outer harmony as well as happiness....at least the men I've studied are huge into fulfillment and balance BUT...

In order t succeed you have to overcome and develop and the only way to develop is pushing your comfort level into discomfort...

If you didn't have to see discomfort to become successful you'd already be there but I feel it's crucial to develop ways to keep yourself sane at the same time

I agree totally, especially with the sanity part!! That is equally important to develop strategies for.

well if it wasn't unpleasant it wouldn't be work!!!

people basically get paid to do something that other people don't want to do or dont know how to do.

you dont have to be uncomfortable to be successful if you have a skill people are not capable of. if you dont have any skills, you can still be successful by just doing jobs others dont, but then you'll probably be uncomfortable

either way, if you can do something uncomfortable for a few hours a day, to live the life you want, then i think it is a fair trade.

Used to be a mess! Me too! You're right, as we continue to engage, our brains continue to learn.

Having that ability to stand discomfort is rare. It is a good Attitude. Thank you for sharing.

I couldn't agree more. The more discomfort you can endure by stepping out of your comfort zone, the more you'll learn and grow. You don't want to be set in your ways, but instead you need to constantly challenge yourself to step outside of your established boundaries.

Most people rate the things they're afraid of as follows:

    1. Public Speaking
    2. Death

That means if I said tomorrow you're 100% guaranteed to be attending a funeral, most people would prefer to be in the coffin than giving the eulogy.

That's paraphrased from a comedian, can't remember who. It's a really sharp observation though!

I admit I am not a public speaker, however when I teach yoga occasionally I do get to speak in front of others and it is scary. I get very nervous before hand, but feel wonderful and powerful afterwards! I went to acting classes when I was young, and my teacher said to me 'do what you fear most'! And I suppose it is in this doing what we fear that brings us courage!

Success comes through pushing through all the boundaries, and it sounds like Ryan can't help but be pushed with what he does! If we are doing an office job which is fairly non confronting, then we aren't going to be pushed ahead very often!

Yeah I agree with maidmarion..If we hide from our fears it will only result in growing the fear up..To defeat it the only choice we have is facing it.

    Hi Ryan,

This makes *Total* sense to me.

I'm convinced you will improve as much as you're willing to be uncomfortable.

Perfect example. I felt uncomfortable going onto the main warrior internet marketing forum for a year and a half. At first it was because I had little knowledge. I eventually gained a great deal of internet marketing insight but still felt uncomfortable because the crowd is much larger and the feedback isn't always as pleasant as the suggestions made on this forum.

Long and the short of it, after about 3 days so far of hitting the main forum hard I've tripled my opt-ins and received a handful of requests from Warriors who want to do whatever it takes to work with me.

It all happened - as does all progress - because I pushed the limits of my comfort zone. As you note when willing to embrace this comfort and use it as fuel for progress awesome things can happen for you. Pretty darn quickly too

Thanks for sharing and have a powerful day Ryan!

I should add I also received all types of "feedback" too, both from Warriors on the forum as well as on other social networking accounts where I connected with them.

This is inevitable guys. Practice becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable, it's worth it!

I don't mind discomforts since it's very natural. If there are some discomfort points in your life, it means that your life is normal. Life is not all UPS, there is and there will always be DOWNS.
