This inspirational quote is STILL my favorite...

You know... there are A LOT of great inspirational quotes. And I enjoy reading them.

However, the most practical and useful quote I've ever stumbled upon is Nike's "Just Do It."

Why?

Because, when you get right down to it, taking action is the most important thing of all.

If you have a lot of knowledge, action is all you need; if you don't, taking action (and learning from your mistakes) can teach you all you really need to know.

Your thoughts?

John

To me it always meant don’t just sit there over thinking about what you would like to do, but JUST DO IT … Take action!

I agree..I've watched an ad and that was highly inspirational to me.

There are many quotes out there and when we take them in to one they all says the simple thing.

      stop thinking...JUST DO IT

I agree. How many times have you found yourself thinking about something for days, weeks or months until you finally just get up and go do it? Afterwards you feel so good that it's done you wonder why you didn't do it long before that.

'Just do it' is a power packed statement and without actually using those exact words, I've more or less lived my life according to this way of thinking for at least three decades and I know plenty of others who operate in the same way.
The result is that I've had plenty of winners and losers in roughly equal measure I suppose but I've sure got a lot of experience compared to more cautious or maybe wiser people.
But fairly recently, I've started to take seriously the 'advice' my boss gave me when I worked for a major multinational company over 30 years ago - he was bawling me out over something I'd done wrong and ended the session by advising me to remember that "you stand or fall by the quality of your decisions".
Returning to the original topic, the only flaw I see in 'Just Do It' is what is the 'It' that you're going to do? So with the sometimes dubious benefit of all my experience, I'm trying to discipline myself into actually thinking about what I'm about to embark upon and trying to evaluate the potential benefits other than just vaguely adding soemthing else to my store of experiences. But, still find it difficult not to resist a challenge just for the sake of it though!

"Just Do It!" is a beautiful phrase. It can be that forceful kick to the backside when we need it most. But as don21stc points out, you need to know what "it" is. I think it all comes down to how focused we are in what we're doing. Just getting up and taking action is probably better than doing nothing. At least you're actively involved in life, rather than passively sitting by. But if you're unsure of your direction, how effective can that action be?

The trick is to have an established purpose firmly planted it your mind and this usually means changing the subconscious operating system that's running you.

Everything is filtered through your own self-concept. So if you see yourself as an article writer for example, internally you know what you need to do on a daily basis. It's automatic. When you hear the term "Just do it" -- you know instinctively what it is that needs to be done. It's isn't something you have to consciously think about. But if you're an article writer one day and a business consultant the next, uncertainty takes over and confusion nullifies the power of these three magic words.

There is nothing I can say that can make that quote shine more than it already does. It has helped me such a great deal and I hope it can do the same for someone else out there.

I personally can't "just do" something. I must first get a strong desire for the result and start believing it will work, otherwise I just won't do it

I agree with the last post, it has to be something you have decided you really want to do, then 'just do it' is the action step.
