Poll: How Hungry Are You?

This thread applies more to people already seeing some success than those
who are still struggling to make a few bucks online.

So, without speaking about myself personally (tacky in my opinion) if you
had a month where you could break some milestones for yourself with a
little extra work, would you put in that work or would you look at what
you've done and say to yourself, "I've had more than a good enough month
and would rather take the rest of the month off to relax" and basically pack
it in until next month?

IMO, this shows how hungry a person is for success above and beyond
what they have.

Note: There is nothing wrong with being satisfied with what you have and
where you are, and if taking a holiday or vacation is more important to you
than making a few extra bucks, power to you. You've reached a great
point in your life.

But I'm curious to see how many people want more and how many are
happy with what they have, again, provided they're doing well and able
to live the life style they've wanted.

The poll is open. You can cast your votes privately and/or publicly.

Going for more. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I took large random amounts of time off. I will take time off, but not just because I made money. I keep a work schedule. It keeps me sane.

I voted for more. My aim is to do less driving around visiting clients and make more online. It's building steadily, but not enough to replace my offline income - yet.

I have several projects that I hope will start earning in 2011 and a long term plan.

    I struggle with that.

See, I am perversely proud of my own hardships.

I think it makes me a better person that I have to make sacrifices all the time, and I've chosen to make them for the sake of my long-term goals.

The problem is that by definition, this means that when I reach those goals, I will not be as good a person!

This is just plain sick. There's no question about it. I need to fix this.

And it's largely what I'm talking about as I keep saying "it is no longer a question of knowing what I need to know or doing what I need to do, but of being what I need to be."

Right now, I fundamentally am someone who has massive untapped potential and will be incredibly successful someday in the unspecified future. Lots of people have said it. Hell, Steven, you've said it.

And that's all well and good for a while, but if I don't turn into someone who taps that potential and is successful now, I'm just another loser living in his parents' basement.

And I have taken some kind of counterproductive pride in the ongoing stream of "I'll be able to move out in two months, oh wait no I won't - but it's not my fault."

Well, just because it's not my fault doesn't mean it's not my problem. The fault, the blame, is really pretty irrelevant. I used to know that very, very well... but somewhere along the line, it slipped out of my day to day consciousness.

And I need it back. I need to internalise and focus a deep and unshakable understanding that it doesn't matter whose fault it is.

    Very good Thought provoking post,

It is human nature to want.

It takes a great personality to realize that what you need and what you want are two different things.

It seems to be that so many in this business of Internet Marketing, cannot see the true vision of what success really is.

I really wish that I could find a way to communicate the true hopelessness, of always wanting but never truly meeting your needs.

You will never earn money by doing nothing, nor will you get rich by robbing other people of the money they earn.

As in the Classic, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Want and ignorance is always a part of humanity, we have so much, if we just realized it,
we would all agree that we have more than we realize we do.

However the human nature, inside us all wants, we want more, even those that have everything they ever wanted, find themselves wanting more.

Call it determination, Ambition, or even a personality disorder, it is what drives us, else we would find ourselves living in a society where no one grows the food that we all need to eat in order to survive. We might find ourselves in the position of not being able to survive, it is the want that drives us to live.

But we cannot live in order to want more, we must balance our want with our needs.

There is nothing wrong with Wanting, but when you allow ignorance to drive your want until you will do anything in order to get what you want,
that is where you will find, that disaster is what you most often find in place of what you wanted.

I have come to realize that there are some people that have no desire to succeed nor do they desire to earn money, they only want, they want someone one to grant them a magic wand that will generate all the Cash they ever wanted, without realizing that it is not about want, it is about need.

If you can but help people meet the needs of other people, then you will find success in ways you never thought possible.

Helping people become successful by helping them achieve their needs is a goal we should all have.

    Merry Christmas,

    Sincerely

    Tim Franklin

When I started learning how to make money online, I told myself I
would work hard now and "stop and smell the roses" when I make
    my first $1000 month.

    Didn't happen.

Told myself the same thing when I double that to $2,000 the next
    month. Didn't happen.

...and I suspect I will NEVER really stop working on anything that
has to do with marketing, sales, and business -- because for me,
I've always had a desire to DO business since I heard the term in
    middle school.

Was it a natural inclination, an example "training myself" to be in
    business...or both? I don't know. I certainly won't say "I was BORN
to be an entrepreneur", because you can be BORN to be gifted in
athleticism...but would still need the training and skills to tap into
    it.

Sometimes...I watched hours of videos of people who talk about
money not being their drive for success. I thought at the time...

"bulls**t. Of COURSE it is. It's easy for them to say that because
they have so much of it!".

I used to think they were saying that to sound modest. I used to
think "secretly" their drive was in fact to make more money...either
way I admired them for it.

Turns out, many people who are successful in some area of their
life, in many cases, are doing it because they love or enjoy what
    they do.

There are few people who get into a profession (acting, singing,
sport, etc) just BECAUSE of money...and I'm living proof that it was
never money ALONE that drives me to want to make "more of it".

I know people who make thousands doing what they do, for both
MONEY & the LOVE or ENJOYMENT of what they do. Because you
MUST enjoy it (at the very LEAST) to make a lot of money doing
what you do....and STILL do what they do despire having millions
in the bank to retire for the rest of their lives and future generations.

    So...how hungry am I?

My drive IS to make more money, but the drive really comes from I
think as mastering a challenge, or beating some game that I create
    in my own reality.

In WANTING to be a better entrepreneur and truly serve and help
other people...the money comes with that desire.

And that, I now know, will always drive me to want to make more.

I laughed out loud when I read that.

I tend to agree with your philosophy. Of course work is necessary, and hard work is needed. But why spend all of your time working.

If you can't take time off to enjoy yourself, then this is no different than working for someone else. Me and my wife spent this morning discussing our travel plans for next year. One includes a 30+ day trip, and we almost always travel with our 4 children. I got into IM to spend more time with my family, instead of spending all my time working. I know that I could make more money than I do now if I worked more, but I really could care less. I make enough money to pay the basics, put a little away, and live the lifestyle that we are comfortable with.

By the way, when I first got into im it took me a long time before I made any significant amount of money. Once I did I worked my butt off. Some days I worked all day and late into the night. However, I new the results that I wanted, and I did it so that I could get to where I am now.

      Hungry.

When I see info products and WSOs that are in the "4-hour work week" genre, I always have the same thought...If I could make $X working 4 hours a week, why the hell wouldn't I work 60 hours a week and make $15X? Even if the extra 56 hours only produced $2X, I'd still rather do it than put in my 4 hrs and call it a week.

Note: I believe that you should always put your time to the highest and best use and delegate/outsource what you can. So from that respect, I see the value in those products.

    Incredibly thought-provoking post Steven...

I want more so that I can work less. IE, I want to work smarter and make more money so that I have more time to not work. The reason for that is because in the spring, we'll be buying horses and goats and working on an organic garden and I don't want work to cut down on my time outside. So, I have my work cut out for me in the next few months.

If I plan everything out correctly, I can work VERY smart, but very little. That is the ultimate goal.

In other words, you don't want your modern-world work to cut down on your nostalgic primitive back-to-nature work.

I have never understood people who want a return to the days when food was scarce and life was hard. But at least you know what you're after, which is more than I can say for myself. I don't know what a "successful" life looks like.

LOL CD. I don't want to return to that kind of life - no way! But there is immense satisfaction in growing and preserving our own food and allowing our kids to learn via nature. Animal husbandry is a way to teach them a LOT, and we homeschool, so it's all part of a greater plan for us.

    A thought provoking questions Steven...

For me, I'm thrilled with where I am, and it's growing all the time.

Outside of the financial realm, my family is awesome and healthy (thankfully).

Here's the thing... doing what you love to do, and doing it when you want to do it makes it easy to blur the lines between work, success and life in general.

It's easy to put in a few hours work and say, "Oh, I was just messing around"...

I'm fortunate that I get to take time off whenever I want. I'm also fortunate that I can earn just about any time that I want.

Being satisfied with where you are is fantastic. It's wonderful to appreciate where you are (i.e., counting your blessings).

Being contented however causes one to stagnate and become complacent.

Here's where I'm coming from: Happy, appreciative, vacationing and thirsty... ;-)

    Love the thread...

This has been a watershed year for me. I realized that I didn't necessarily want more, I wanted different...

I've changed the exit strategy for my business - at least, for one of them. My old strategy was to simply keep doing business until I couldn't anymore and then deal with that problem when it came up. Now, I want to develop that part of the business to the point I can sell out for a payday that will support my fairly modest lifestyle for life.

Another part of my business - one that's been pretty dormant for a few years - I'll revive and keep doing until I no longer enjoy it.

Steve, your story of your own short retirement was one of the contributing factors.

To reach this, I'll have to take a step backwards. That's okay.

Statistically, I'm past the halfway point in this journey, and when I reach the finish line, I don't want any regrets...
